Gray Havens continue to surprise.
Never thought I'd see the day sleep became a status
you might want to put a wall here

there also with the minimap so you can see the missing wall.
unless you want us to get lost in the stars
Bugs aside, I really appreciate the update, new sets, sleep is back, a chainsaw cautery sword and all that Guild Hall stuff. Thanks GH
"Oh wow, new armor! I'd love to craft-"
*sees 3 star armor takes 6 Zee Cores and 4 star armor takes 15*
Sleep looks really fun, thanks for the continued updates! If I can add to the list of bugs, Bechamel doesn't have a name when you take to him in the guild hall. Starlight Cradle is really interesting, though.
Grey Havens, this has to be just about the best thing you could've done. Updates to the Clockworks, AND introducing something for us bombers, I do truly appreciate it.
A fat load of $$$ will be heading your way from yours truly.
I'm kind of sad there aren't any new Gunslinger items at all, but this is still a really great update. Maybe I need to start using bombs and return to using swords again. I always found swords more entertaining back on my old alt account, and the new wolver upgrade branch seems really awesome, and I have never used bombs before. Also, I never thought the Sleep status would actually be brought back, and it seems like a really great status effect as well.
Woot, new content after like...how many years was I playing Warframe again?
Too bad the dreadful latency lag is still likely there, so I won't be able to enjoy any of this. :(

Thank you Grey Havens. I'm sorry I ever doubted you. A lot of attention was put into this, and it's something I would not have guess. I'm actually glad it was a surprise. Keep up the good work!
Wow, awesome, I REALLY LOVE seeing sleep finally made its way back to Cradle along with Mist Bombs whose definitelly make coffe important now :D
I also love to see that Cautery Sword finally made its way to 5 stars. Just... is it worth it, if you already have Maximum damage bonus on an item? Aka: Does it deal more, less or same normal swing damage compared to a combuster if you attack a devility?
Also one more question: will we get a Sleepy Sprite perk and the ability to roll sleep once more on epquipment?
Ah and this: why is there zero info at the main page of Spiral Knights about this epic update?
Edit:
I just logged in and made my way into the new mission when that server restart rolled out. But now there is once again no Gate with Sleep Levels inside, but I was so excited about exploring those :(
seeing SK get an update like this puts a smile on my face.
Started playing 5 years ago and I'm so glad to see its still going strong.
*Yawn* Better go see what SK has to offer today.
*Reads update*
Dang GH an update out of nowhere and it's a pretty good one. New stuff to play with, a new map that is only found in the arcade and other changes that are just as awesome. I'll definitely make sure to send some money your way! Thanks for the update!
"- If Bechamel is installed in a guild, she will now sell knight statues of knights for energy."
I thought he was a guy
I am legitimately crying right now...i've missed Starlight Cradle since Closed Beta and that single "reference" depth in one of the missions could only do so much to salve it.
All i can say is THANK YOU.
Edit - Now i also had a chance to play with the revamped sleep mechanics, and i have to say it's amazing.
See, this is the most important part about SC that was missing from the game.Even on Tier 3 Elite Solo the levels and mechanics were FUN to deal with, even in the last Stratum where everything was kicked up a notch. That final push at the end of Torporous Titan with the double Sloombargo was a helluva challenge to deal with and for once i didn't feel anger about the Silkwings spamming heals everywhere. The keyword here is FUN.And THIS is IT.
I believe Bechamel is a guy, because Bechamel is based on Ian; ergo the announcement should be wrong.
Note: I also posted this in the bug forum.
Our group got stuck in the first room of one of the new sloom levels. Here's a screenshot of what happened:
http://steamcommunity.com/id/GooFiO/screenshot/838078363700022979
I think somebody in our party was standing in the thin walkway when the Lumber spawned, so the it ended up spawning behind the directional barrier and we couldn't kill it.
KEEP THE MISSING WALL I HAVENT TRIED IT YET!!!
This is amazing news! I definitely did not expect this. Keep up the good work Grey Havens. I gotta try out those new weapons and maps :D
I don't have time to check today, I hope to see it tomorrow.
I really do love the levels and they were fun to run around in, truly. I do have a good concern though.
Considering the whole color scheme of the level's layout as well as the enemies themselves matching it so well, spotting the barbs that a Sloom/Sloombargo produces is insanely hard. They blend in far too well with the environment. Think there could be any way of making them more visible among the sleepy mists?
I also think the status should probably be toned down to 8 seconds at base rather than 10. Sloombargos feel really OP if you don't have a gun on you. Though I guess it's not much of an issue now considering that they only appear inside of the Starlit levels... I suppose I should just invest in one of the armors, but in its current state it personally feels a little too punishing if you're playing solo.
Hi, I logged in just to say thank you.
You have no idea how happy I am to see something from the beta being brought back to life. I already planned to play more SK this summer (along with GTA V) and this update hit with full of nostalgia.
Although I only have one negative feedback. The big sloom ALWAYS have a cloud of sleep emanating from them and you cannot deal with them up close. I think it's a bit unfair for more close up build (sword focused). Most level always have pots for hitting switches but this feel just kinda wrong. Even with the Acheron I was just spamming charges from afar and it felt... wrong.
The GH statue are pretty cool. A bit pricy but we needed a ce sink after all those cr sink to even it out.
My other complain is I hate how rare item become the new prismatic bolted vee experience. Darkfang shield a plenty and zee core by 10's for everyone! I kinda hate/love it but more on the hate side.
I love rarity item and feel like my limited item (sniped stranger hat, spiral bombhead mask, lionheart shield/sword) won't be so limited in the near future.
Edit: I had a thought immediately for whoever bought zee core back in the day for millions of cr >.>
I've been expressing myself in huge amounts outside of the forums. Let me come over here and go nuts.
For one, I absolutely LOVE the rework on the sleep status. While at first it seems like an alternate freeze, it's pretty balanced since you can't freezelock with it. I haven't found myself healing after being put to sleep however, so I'll need to look into that, but either way this is a great way to bring back the status.
I'm excited for the possibilities this brings. With a revamped status this means more potential for it to be used in the future. Sleep levels or danger missions would be wonderful and exciting! Additionally we can see more sleep weapons. Heck, sloom missions could be in our future. That's exciting!
Can I say that I never thought a status could be actually adorable? Because the revamped sleep status and all its noises is adorable.
Level layouts are a bit long or open, not many corridors. I feel the "miniboss" conclusion to the levelset is probably the best one, however I would love it if the main theme music started playing after the first party button to bring it up to speed with concrete jungle and dark city finales. I will say the danger rooms in these levels are superb - I love every part of it.
One thing I will say is that zee cores being mandatory in such large batches seems a bit limiting, especially if the shrines of slumber simply aren't in the rotation of the arcade. Initially the 5th arcade slot was filled before the reboot - is there any chance we could see a 5th arcade gate show up that always has a shrine of slumber in it unless we get missions to farm for the zee cores? Or will this be something similar to the slime casino where when it shows up you want to jump at the opportunity?
(Also the little tweaks, such as selling materials in the treasury, filter changes, and guardian shield buff are all worth a huge shoutout. They'll be useful in the longrun while the slumber levels will be what most people are focusing on. Yes, I noticed!)
A small suggestion, I think that if the enemy is poisoned while asleep, the healing should turn into damage. That'd turn into a neat combo for status bombers to work with!
wow thank you grey havens can you make a sloom licon or whatever they are called? and I love slooms and I love the armor...
Surprised nobody remembered the 5* Winmillion that we still need!
Anyway, this was a bombshell, a pleasant one though.
Great work Gray Havens, I knew the 2 years of holding on with no PvE focused updates would come through eventually.
I forgot to do the 5 star winmillion but I never did and also I want a haze bomb that does sleep
will we be getting sleep uvs again on our equipment? My sleep low is not enough anymore ;_:
AAAAA I want to play the new levels, but the patch notes are taking too long! AAAAAAA ;-;
Interesting new bombs. Especially when they're free.
Sleep Vortex! Please! I could keep them stuck forever in LD then!!!
It would be nice if the update was announced on the steam community page and on the Spiral Knights news letter to allow as many people to know about the update as possible as before.
for a sleep gun it would be a tranquilizer of sorts
The other thing is could sleep walk be potential addition to the effect where it only occurs rarely and all the players controls are inverse or randomized.
and if (or when) you add sleep based Devilites can the be called Slackers and be considered the worse of the worst as workers in their company
thanks for sleep haze bomb but how do you get it?
I just wanted to thank you sincerely for not giving up and for eventually getting to the point where so many possibilities open up.
Something I want to say is that selling 0* and 1* materials from the guildhall to the emporium do not give you anything back since it takes half of the 1 crown, apparently rounding down to 0. Is there any chance the formula could be changed to round up?
Having 0* and 1* materials not be penalized while vendoring them would be nice. Pretty much everything else makes sense as it's mostly supposed to be a way to clear things out, but it would be useful for the lowest items to still have an effect rather than taking up space.
(Also casually dropping this old suggestion back into the minds of many. Pierce sleep syringe weapon would be an excellent new tool!)
By the way.. does anyone have any inkling as to what the dawn trinket is from? I doubt it's just an AH-only trinket.
Dawn trinket's only location is in the AH right now. I checked Sullivan, Brinks, mysterious alchemy machine, and all came up flat.
Perhaps they have a rare chance to drop from slooms? That would be pretty neat if it were the case.
Really it reminds me of the silver solstice ring. I'm wondering if there will be a dusk bracelet at some point for us to combine it with?
I hope it shows up in some way shape or form. I like this idea of making multi-purpose trinkets that are a mix of defense and usefulness. A +2 health +1 combat stat would be kinda nice.
"I feel the "miniboss" conclusion to the levelset is probably the best one, however I would love it if the main theme music started playing after the first party button to bring it up to speed with concrete jungle and dark city finales."
Today's update changed that level to have the music start earlier. Really gets you more pumped now! Thanks!
what was todays stealth patch about anyway?
Quite pleased to hear of the rediscovery of Starlight Cradle. Now it's finally time to make preparations for expanding the Lichen ranch back in Stone Field Borough.
Also, might I point our attention to our lonely friends Winmillion, Wrench Wand, Thwack Hammer, Viatsuit Deluxe, and Heavy Deconstructor?
To be fair, the Thwack Hammer is expanded upon with the entire Troika line, but extending other lines may be neat too.
The Starlight Cradle levels and the revised Sleep mechanic really brings a bit more to do, not to mention some new weapons and armor & other changes. Thanks!
Maybe sometime, we should have new minibosses for Legion of Almire's Inner Sanctum and Compound 42's Containment to either replace the battle arenas, or, at least, extend the level by a short interlude hallway with heals that leads to the new miniboss arena before going to the elevator in the end, or maybe a new Expansion Mission with 7 levels. Maybe a new Danger Mission.
Though, other than that, the changes are amazing! Keep up the good work!
"- Because sleep can be rejuvenating, you may notice a small (and limited) heal upon waking up."
I'm not really sure how that sleep rejuvenation thing works, but what I can tell is that a status ailment that forces you to take an extra hit if you're alone is a very dangerous prospect for an offensively-oriented game such as Spiral Knights.
...Which is precisely why we need more of it; more sleep-inducing enemy types and hazards, more sleep-themed levels and missions -- anything to make sleep resistance and Royal Jelly Shield actually viable.
Still, keep bringing up this kind of content at your own pace Grey Havens; I'll be looking forward to it more than ever now.
Just a note..
When the new sleep levels first were released (I'm talking about the first few hours they were introduced), there were levels with sleep/sloom danger rooms that you would pay like other normal floors to gain access to arenas which gave prize boxes upon completion, but I haven't seen them since they fixed the couple of level bugs right after the new sleep effects were released. I really enjoyed those levels! Wonder if they will be back in the future.
@Lego
They still exist, I saw those about 2 days ago when I did a gate run T3. Had like 4 energy gates, a few of which were danger rooms.
There's two tilesets for the Starlight Cradle levels - "Shrine of Slumber" and "Meteor Mile".
The Meteor Mile III level ends with a danger room. The Shine of Slumber ones end with the Torporal Titan level, which is the Starlight Cradle Finale much like Stygian Steeds is the finale to Dark Cities.
A few notes:
- We're aware that there is an issue in the HoH with some recipies not displaying properly. We're working on it.
- We're also aware that some knights have suddenly learned to fly due to a missing wall. We're also working on that. Safe landings!
Please expect a reboot tonight.
