Spring Equinox: why bringing Celestial Orbitgun back?
Hi,
I'm just wandering why GH brought Celestial Orbitgun back in boxes, crashing it's market value. In a week it went from 140-180kce to 40k ce and players who bought it at full price must be (are) crushed.
GH could just as easily made another mixmaster reskin, leaving the orbitgun value almost unchanged. New players would have got a mixmaster-style weapon and old one would have been proud to own a rare gun.
Even if they did it just to sell more boxes, another reskin would have worked anyway. The love puppy in the running wild promotion was just as appreciated as the original gun puppy.
This feels like the darkfang shield all over, except this time it was deliberate.
What do you think about it? Am I missing something?
Thanks
they do this every march/september while switching the 1% drops. i don't get it. did you not see this coming?
"crushed players" should be upset at people opening so many boxes, not at gh lol,

Well, I haven't seen anyone selling their orbitgun at 40k e, and i'm sure if anyone was it would get snagged quickly.
I've also only seen a handful unboxed. Because the drop rate is >1% and it shares that percentage with the shield, effectively the drop rate of the orbitgun is >1% divided by 2. Statistically saying it is 1% drop, so the gun has a 0.5% drop chance, a player would likely need to open 200 boxes to get one, or be lucky. Opening 200 boxes at say an average box price of 2.5k e per box, that's 500k e right there or they are spending $700 (about 14 sets of 14 boxes at $50 per set)
So I don't think it would significantly impact the price of the gun. It just makes it available via another means to players who may be having trouble finding someone willing to sell. Also with the boxes giving a quite high chance of UV tickets, that still makes the gun more valuable because those deter people from opening boxes.
You could almost argue that statistically speaking, this box drop rate actually increases the value of them somewhat, because lately i've seen a surge of people wanting to buy one.

Remember Midnight, in MMO there are only 'foxes' and 'wolves', and no body ever spend more than they need and no body ever want additional profits!
HA! Eat your heart out Mintagen!

Literally each time the equinox box comes out this happens. They rotate one of the two items out, put one of the others ones in, and go from there. I think the last box has orbitgun and the vortex, so orbitgun should be gone for about a year after this one.
The price of the orbitgun was always less than the mixmaster, but that's because its supply is increased, theoretically, every so often. This is not a bad thing, and since prices are set by the players, these "prices" were never subject to any actual price.
Granted all this said, equinox being a standalone box still is one of the few things that I'll actively speak out against so long as it has an 80% chance for UV tickets in it.

Ah, the beauty of market value. Wait a few days and the item gains value.
Re-introducing items balances the market. Players impatient will buy the items when their prices peak, obly to regret it when the item is re-released. Not to fear! The value of the item will increase as the days go by. Day after day less people own these items, so the price goes up.
That's why.

I couldn't careless about items being re-released.
I was quite upset when Rose Aura made a come back considering i was one of the few Rose Auras around and now it became the most obnoxious thing.
It's a matter to expect certain items that are being hoarded by certain players to outrageous prices to make a come back eventually.
Orbit being re released before mixer is already a blessing to those overpaying mixmasters everywhere to sell them a week later just because they realize the gun isn't that special.

the gun isn't that special
It kind of is that special though, since things don't try to dodge it at all... maybe not 500 dollars special since you could do something real with that money, but definitely special compared to other weapons. Anyone saying this isn't completely insane is insane. So much of Spiral Knights is in reactive enemies and when you remove that you break the game.

yea paying 500 dollars to kill mecha knights and almirians easier... That's totally why people overpay for it xD

Why bringing Celestial Orbitgun back? Because they want to sabotage their own game by droping prices... It will be cheaper to get rare items; thus, ppl will spend less money here. Prices have not fluctuated too much anyway...

Yeah, Lyrose, mixmaster is not special at all, that's why everyone wants to get it LOL. It is clear that you don't have one.

The more Mixmaster-esc weapons on the market the better. Some of the fun of the game comes from all the different weapons you can use and their specific functionalities (Yes I'm one of those sort of guys that packs stuff like DVS and Tortogun in regular Arcade runs because why not). Having a unique weapon locked behind the money making game is no fun (at least to me, I prefer to make my money from doing levels and whatnot than wrangling wares for a marketplace to sell off), having it locked behind events, bosses, or expansions I would prefer.
As for the prices, they'll likely start to go right back up shortly after the pool of Equinox boxes start to dry up. Their rarity in boxes and the great demand for them will keep their prices high. And considering what Fangel said, the prices in the future may see new peaks with how much lower their supply will likely get to.

Jokes on you I have a mixmaster got it back in the first time promo appearance so i know what I'm talking about.
For PvP mixmaster is worse than polaris in spam wall eficiency level, only dumb people fall for the shots and it's hilarious.
For PvE arcana or any other elemental gun does the job a lot better... So mixmaster is situational. But if I recommend it? No, if you have a big wallet then you're free to choose.

Arcana better than mixer on PvE? You clearly don't know how to use it properly. If you think it has nothing special then why you don't get rid of it? ;)

PvP, it's usually not situational awareness that causes the gun's effectiveness, it's player lag coupled with the fact that they're rare enough to be more difficult to understand and thus counter. Since I'm always a good 2 tiles behind my character on my side, dodging bullets is significantly more difficult, so mixmaster styled bullets are a very large threat in PvP simply due to connection.
In PvE, orbitgun absolutely destroys enemies. I refer to it as "the rocket hammer of guns" simply due to how effective and fun it is to use. I burned out on FSC (harr harr) but the orbitgun has made farming FSC back into something enjoyable for me, singlehandedly.
There are some glaring flaws with the weapon's coding and balance, which I've gone over in more detail here, but at the end of the day I believe having more of these weapons available is a good thing. I also believe the gun needs to be balanced accordingly before a free variant is released since even a craftable statusless normal damage variant would do bonkers damage at this time.

It was just my personal opinion. I had a mixmaster long enough to know if it would be worth the current price of 200ke. And honestly it's not, a 50ke perhaps for it's exclusivity, I love to own the gun, but i don't enjoy the game as much as i used to to take forever to finish stuff, i use mixmaster from time to time though it's still one of the most enjoyable guns i have but as i prefer efficiency i only really use it in cases it's better to improve it. LoA and GiTM are where i use it the most to improve efficiency and speed completion. So no i won't get rid of it since I'd never buy it back for this current market price.
how about SK not having overpriced original weapons nigh-unobtainable in F2P
not everything is about your wallet
