Anyone have an idea of what

Anyone have an idea of what could be causing it. Haven't been able to verify if it happens if my router is unhooked...however it is a different model than the one people seem to have problems with.

Ideas

I am still having this problem. It does seem to be a problem with the router...although I haven't heard of anything about anyone having problems with this model. A lot of the time when I play Spiral Knights through my router...vent and everything will lose connection for a second or two. It completely cuts off my internet connection. The weird thing is...sometimes it will work for hours and be fine with no disconnecting. Not really sure what else to try or do.

Are you sure its not your

Are you sure its not your modem dropping out? Other then that, the router is probably faulting internally, but may not visibly power cycle.

Being an old router, its usually its due to overheating from extended use or the power adapter is starting to die if its more then 3-5 years old.

Well I know it's not a faulty

Well I know it's not a faulty router or modem. If I close Spiral Knights and play something else, the disconnecting goes away instantly. Spiral Knights is actually causing me to lose total internet connection. If it was the router or modem I would have problems in other games...but I never do.

I've tried to find info on

I've tried to find info on the firmware version, but so far all I've come across is that every time Linksys released an update, it was riddled with issues. Its probably the worst router they ever put out. Normally I'd suggest updating the firmware, but theres a good chance it'll break everything else.

The only thing I would suggest trying is manually setting the MTU to 1458 to break down the packet size in case its some kind of buffer overflow bug. Other then that, theres nothing SK can or would do other then sending large packets that could even affect the router.

Right now my MTU is on 1492.

Right now my MTU is on 1492. What I'm wondering is why this is an issue while just playing SK? Also why would it completely disconnect my internet for a few seconds every time it happens? SK has to have something different than every other online game I play that would be causing it. There has to be something I can change or due if the issue only happens with SK

There has to be something to

There has to be something to do...considering sometimes I can play for hours with no issues and sometimes I can't even play for 5 minutes before it starts. Something has to be causing it.

The most important question

The most important question right now is where is the connection being cut off. Router, Modem, or ISP... each having very different implications.

The Linksys routers don't

The Linksys routers don't time stamp any of its logs, which would had been perfect. Instead, you need to find out if your modem has any management interface (model?), any Network warning given by Windows, and physically watch both your modem and router for signs of rebooting.

You can monitor the segment between you and the router by doing a "ping -t 192.168.1.1" from a command prompt. This setups up a continuous ping to your router to test connectivity. If this connection dies, its an issue with the router.

Secondly, some versions of the firmware in linksys routers have a diagnostics page with ping and traceroute functionality. Set the ping to unlimited and the target IP to be the Default gateway of the ISP (you can find that info on the status page, or sometimes even the front page for the WAN/Internet interface.) Assuming it responds at first, this getting interrupted indicates a problem with the Router WAN, or the modem. If it still works through the disconnect, it means your connection is getting reset in ISP space.... but this is very rare, and only tends to be a problem with ISPs that have strict policies on BT or bandwidth usage.

From there, it all depends on what you get the modem to tell you. If your ISP is helpful (and you can find someone up the support chain that knows how), you can also ask them to do diagnostics from the ISP network back to you to see if they can isolate where the break down is occurring.
