Attention all Knights: your next mission isn't in the Clockworks.
We're making a new trailer for Spiral Knights, and we want to showcase what you, the community, specifically love about the game!
Behold! A Spiral Knights competition: The Spiral Knights Trailer Storyboard!
A storyboard lays out the elements that make up a video, the sequence of visuals, transitions, and text that tell a story.
We want to invite you all to create the storyboard for the trailer video you’d like to see to introduce Spiral Knights to new players and remind existing players why they love the game.
A winning submission could even be used as inspiration for the creation of a new trailer.
📜 Rules
There aren't any limits on how you construct your narrative, but keep in mind that video trailers are typically 60-90 seconds long and give their audience 3-5 seconds to digest each "cut" - a reflection of attention span and the time needed to take in an image.
- Your storyboard should be between five and ten panels.
- Draw it by hand or digitally; both are welcome.
- A little text to support your panels is fine, but let the visuals do the talking.
- One entry per account.
🖼️ Submission Format
We recommend using a sequence like the flow below. Use any imagery that fits - game screenshots, your own drawings, or a mix of both - to help explain the impression each step should make. Duplicate that as many times as you think makes sense to tell your story. See an example of a storyboard structure table here.
Once ready, upload your storyboard to the Spiral Knights Wiki. Please follow this format:
- Destination filename:
Storyboard_2026_KnightName.png - Summary tag:
{{Storyboard_Event|KnightName}}
(replace "KnightName" with your in-game name)
Deadline for this event is June 1st, at 11:59 PM game time.
⚖️ Judging
We know some of you are incredibly talented, and great art will absolutely count in your favor. But we're judging on the full picture: the story you tell, the feeling it gives, and whether it makes us want to come back and play. It’s entirely possible to win this event using stick figure knights.
Everyone has a chance - and the best ideas could even inspire the new trailer. If your concept makes the cut, you'll be credited.
🎁 Prizes
We want this competition to recognize several different kinds of work, so we'll be giving out five prizes:
- Winning submission (we'd love to bring this one to life!)
- Runner Up (too good not to recognize)
- Most impactful narrative (best story arc and flow)
- Most atmospheric (strongest artistic vision)
- Captain's Choice (the one that stood out most to our illustrious CEO)
All winners will receive a Golden Laurel! In addition to that:
- Winning submission: Prismatic Feathered Aura and choice of any Battle Sprite
- Runner Up, Most impactful narrative, Most atmospheric, Captain's Choice will each receive: Gold Feathered Aura and choice of a Divine or Shadow Drakon
🎬 What happens next
Once submissions close, we'll review entries and build a shortlist. Our hope is to use these submissions from the community to create the story you’ll see in the Steam trailer.
❓ FAQ
- Does the formatting sample need to be followed exactly? Not at all - it's just a guide. Feel free to make it your own as long as the story comes through clearly.
- Do I need to provide exact timings for each scene? No! Keep it notional - "quick flash," "lovingly long hero shot," whatever captures the intent of that moment.
- Can Steam accounts upload to the wiki? Not at this time due to technical reasons. You can create a website account here if you don't already have one, or have a trustworthy friend upload for you (just make sure your knight is credited!). We apologize for the inconvenience.
Go forth, knights! We can't wait to see the game through your eyes!

This is exciting! Questions, though; when's the deadline? And can multiple people work on the same entry submission?
