I really think this needs to be said because as of right now, this event is possibly in my opinion is in a very terrible state and I have several reasons on this
- The lack of spawnrates; Black Kats are probably one of the most abysmal enemies to farm in this event period. while I will not complain about their drops as thats not really a issue for these rare mobs, the book itself can more or less stay in its rare drop spot. its that they feel very scarce for an event catered towards them. You're more or less never going to see these things normally unless you find a way to grind something like candlestick keep constantly, where spookats are bountiful in those floors.
The prestige mission? You get one mission of guaranteed black kats and they are specifically made to not drop anything. This is already a very terrible flaw. You're stuck dealing with finding them naturally and that will just leads to problem 1. You only even ever get about 1 1/3 of a black kat drop from this which okay fine thats better than nothing but its still so lack luster.
The small period of time. For how scarce black kats are, you could have the chance of getting nothing out of this event due how much relies on you waiting on that chance of A) a undead specific gate in the clockworks, B) the chance of that spookat spawning in the level and C) the chance of that spookat turning into a black kat instead. many people nowadays can only maybe spend about 3 hours in their free time and it could take the entirety of the event before you even see a black kat. And this is not including people who are using mission farming methods to find these black kats.
No intrinsic value of any other set but black kat. Its pretty self explanatory. Black kat armor is probably the only meaningful gear people ever will get out of this event as everything else is outclassed by the basic armors in the game outside of events, not to mention everything from this event literally requires you to kill Margrel in the first place. This pretty much makes any chance at making this armor already a nightmare especially in the state this events in.
Already this event is a hassle for any normal player who wishes to participate in this event, which pretty much means only people who has consistent time on their hands to even have a small chance of obtaining gear but even then you may have to go through several events to get it and that cna take YEARS so I feel like changing needs to be done so theres more accessibility to cater for everyone in this event.

First off. Please make the black kats in the prestige mission have drops. This fixes half the issue of how restrained ancient pages acquirement is and it allows more players to have a higher chance at experiencing Margrel and getting armors out of it.
Second, Natural black kat nests, That makes arcade more reliable for black kats overall entirely. Tortodrone should be an example for this, since you can get guaranteed spawns for glyphs from special rooms tied to the event from clockwork tunnels, devilish drudgery and fiend specific arena floors. The same could be applied here exactly like how tortodrones is made but make the special rooms obviously exclusive to candlestick keep and undead specific arenas. This will pretty much allow arcade play to be incentivized for more loot. Arcade should be incentivized more often like this to reward players for playing the game naturally.
These two things alone would already make this event more player friendly to people who just do not have time on their hands to play Spiral Knights constantly. Yes this is meant to be difficult armor to get and its payout should feel exhilarating, but with how things stand right now? You can only really get rewarded if you work yourself to the bone in that short time span and only focus on farming and even then, 90% of the armors are a completely different issue that will need talking about. I only wish for this to be put into consideration to future Black Kat events.
As much as I complained about Tortodrones, this is the most godawful event in the game and it's not even close. Thanks to the very handy spreadsheet posted recently, I realized that if, for some perverse reason, I wanted to craft every single bit of gear from this event, it would require twenty-five Wicked Whiskers, which means twenty-five Margrel fights. Each of which needs an obscenely rare drop from an extremely rare enemy spawn. If you wanted to go for the only truly-useful option, the Black Kat set, you'd still need a bare minimum of SIX Margrel fights, one of which you'd have to start with the book yourself. And that's not even touching on the fact that you'd need 25 Kat Tribe Fetishes (3 of which are for the Seraphynx reskin) to get everything, each of which is 50 Ancient Pages, plus the Ancient Pages needed for each of the 3-star masks. And the only feasible way to get any of that is to constantly speedrun anything that happens to have a guaranteed Candlestick Keep level, which just so happens to be the most miserable type of level to speedrun given how many roadblocks you're guaranteed to meet along the way.
Like...who in the name of all that is holy looked at this entire setup and decided it was something worth publishing? It's just insane.
