I was wondering when a spiral knight aquires the appropriate gear to solo the Jelly King?

Right now I am wearing:

5* Leviathan Blade
5* Grey Owlite Shield
4* Mighty Cobalt Helm
4* Mighty Cobalt Armour
2* Blaster (awaiting antigua)
4* Jelly Trinket

Am I capable, or at least do i have the appropriate gear to solo JK given I know the tactics in beating him?

Or should i wait until i have 5* everything?

I have tried to tackle him in the past with 3* and 4* gear but have failed miserably :(

I'm able to solo him with: 4*

I'm able to solo him with:

4* Silent Nightblade
4* Horned Owlite Shield
4* Virulisk Mask
3* Chroma Suit

With the right vials, obviously.

Nope. Need a Venom Striker. You won't deal enough DPS to keep his health down with 3 Poison Vials otherwise.

Well personally

I find Fang of Vog really good for him, run up do the charge, dip, repeat.
and it only takes like 5 charge attacks for him to go kersploosh.

He can't even Solo the Jelly King. You expect him to have beaten Vanaduke close to 20 times?

Ash Tail Faust/Vile

Ash Tail
Faust/Vile Striker
Shield of choice (preferable the snarbolax shield)

3 poison vials, 3 fire vials, 3 pills, at least 2 curse potions.

Throw 1 of each curse/poison/fire at him at the beginning. Knock him down until he starts to tantrum. Throw the second curse potion at him once he's done with the first tantrum, and then use your remaining fire/poison potions as needed.

Curse potions are highly underrated during that fight. If you can pack that potion loadout I mentioned, than the potions will do most of the work for you. But I would not attempt without at least 2 curse potions. And it can get real difficult if you miss a throw. So I usually just get up close and person and take the couple hits if it means guaranteeing i won't miss a throw. Also, try to avoid getting surrounded by the little jellies.

I have soloed him with with A

I have soloed him with with
A dusker set
Horned owl shield
A nightblade

True, I usually have to revive once, and my vials are pretty maxed, but since I'm running him on pure ME, I don't care about using 5 to revive; it would just go to waste if I didn't use it anyway.

Seriously, if you cannot solo

Seriously, if you cannot solo JK in 4* and 5* gear, with the appropriate defenses even, there's obviously something wrong with how you're approaching the fight.

Don't bother with the Vial Striker unless you already have a Striker sitting around waiting to upgrade. JK is literally the only fight it really shines in, and you can get the same effect with Poison and Curse vials in any case while using a better weapon. It's not worth starting a whole new alchemy line just for one fight. Frankly, the Levi is perfect for this fight. JK can't be knocked back, so the charged attack will hit 2-3 times if you can land it. This will likely be your best way of dealing damage during the tantrum phase. Charge, follow the tantrum as he helpfully clears your path, release and shield cancel the attack, repeat.

Poison and/or Curse are pretty key to the fight, I'll admit, although just 3 poison vials are enough to get you through the fight f you know what you're doing. Any additional status vials are useful extra damage. Curse is your strongest option, and remember that if he's cursed, you don't need to poison him until it wears off. Both stop him healing, but Curse hurts him for trying. A full load of vials (Curse/Poison/other) and pills should trivialise the encounter, particularly with your gear.

He's killable in 3* outfits. Seriously.

Cobalt... Umm, maybe think of

Cobalt...

Umm, maybe think of switching it to Wolver--> Dusker. It's got the same defense types, but confers damage bonuses to your sword. And sword damage is really important against the Royal Jelly, especially the charged attacks.

...I hate Cobalt...

...Someday the Gremlins will build an enormous magnet weapon and you will all feel sorry you ever built your entire suit of armor out of a ferromagnetic metal...

@Nearo: Replicant wasn't talking about your Fang of Vog, or alleged lack thereof. He's saying it's extremely unlikely that XxgordenxX, the OP, could have a Fang of Vog.

You don't even need to apply

You don't even need to apply any status effects on the JK to kill him as long as you don't run around like a headless chicken for 5 minutes. Sure they may shorten the fight a bit, but anybody who knows what they're doing will significantly out-damage his self-healing.

Your gear is more than enough to solo him.

My gear.

I have a Wolver Cap, Wolver Coat, Swiftstrike Buckler, Cutter, and Blaster.
If I had a Dusker Cap, Dusker Coat, Swiftstrike Buckler, Venom Striker, and Super Blaster with two other friends with roughly the same equipment and a medium level of expertise, would that be enough?

@Darkgeek Firstly, the gun is

@Darkgeek

Firstly, the gun is a non-issue. I'm a relatively dedicated gunner, and the JK is on my "Swords only" list. There's too much crap in the way to use a gun effectively. (Not that it's totally impossible, but not really feasible.)

Secondly, you could potentially kill him with the gear you have already. I'd suggest getting a 3* Calibur or Nightblade instead of the Cutter-line, but I'll admit that the Vile Striker is a very good weapon for this fight even if you'll use it pretty much nowhere else. Killing him in 2* armor is doable if you know what you're doing, but yes, I'd invest in the 3* Dusker set. You'll want it later in any case, so it's not like you'll be wasting the CE invested.

If at least one of your buddies can bring a Fire or Poison Haze bomb, you'll have an even easier time of it. The damage provided by even the 3* Firey Vaporizer can be pretty significant, and I'd recommend it over the poison one, though either will help counteract his healing in the event you run out of vials.

Just stay focused on the boss, learn to shield bump to get out of trouble, and make use of the status vials. You guys should be fine.

Thanks.

Aziraphaile, thanks for the recommendation.

Really quickly, however, do you think that I should swap the gun out for a Calibur-line sword? The levels leading up to the boss might need a gun, but I don't know because I have never been there.

Also, do the smaller jellies surrounding the Royal Jelly give you anything when you kill them? I know to go straight for the big guy, but I might want to grab a bit of extra loot while I'm there.

You're beyond fine to do it.

You're beyond fine to do it.

Using mist-only you can still revive twice if you don't bork up on the way there.

My reccommendation is to be as aggressive as all hell to get her to start tantrumming as FAST as possible. The more time you have to stay in one spot to hit the Jelly, the more time the adds will have to blobby-block you away and pummel you to death. Once she's on the move, soloing gets way, way easier.

If you're more of a visual learner than a reading learner, here you go (shameless plug lulululululz)

In your gear, I'd bet you could win with just one or even zero deaths. (after a while practicing, I got down to 1 death for soloing her myself, and your gear beats what I do it in by a longshot.)

I've solod him just fine,

I've solod him just fine, with maybe 1 death. This is with a really standard set of equipment.

Ash Tail Cap
Ash Tail Coat
Ascended Calibur
Dark Thorn Shield

x3 Capsules
x3 Curse
x3 Poison
x3 Fire

Easy kill. I've done it without the curse vials as well.

Should I be able to solo him

Should I be able to solo him with this set?: ash tail set, silent nightblade, 3 poison, 2 curse, and 3 fire. and 3 pills. I also have a vile striker, should I use this or the silent nightblade for him? I usally carry with the nightblade, my vile striker and a 4* freezing atomizer, never tryed to solo him before. Kinda strange. vile striker vs. silent nightblade for the battle? I don't care if I have to revive once or twice, just not 5 or 6 times.

You can beat the jelly king

You can beat the jelly king solo with 3 star gear. Just get 3 curse and it is a piece of cake.

Yes

@XxGordenxX
The answer your question is an emphatic YES!!!!!!
You have good enough gear to solo jelly king. Absolutely, 100% you do.
It will be even easier with 3 poison/shock or curse/fire/heal vials. THe main thing to remember is to try and avoid taking damage by blocking. WHen he spins follow him and charge your sword for attacks, and his heal is not healxInfinite. He heals himself somewhat quickly for 30-40 hp at a time, meaning it is very easy to out dps his heals(even w/out a venom sword).

It may take a little practice and possibly a rez or 2, but you can do it. I bet you'll get him on your first try if u have good vials :)

@ Darkgeek: I was actually

@ Darkgeek:

I was actually recommending that you swap the Striker for a Calibur-line blade. I perfectly understand your concerns about being without a gun, but if you're that attached to your Striker, then I highly recommend you get an extra weapon slot ASAP. There's no real reason you can't kill JK with a Cutter-derivative, but I just think the Calibur or Nightblade are far more effective in this enounter.

As for the other question, the little tiny jellies drop nothing, as usual. The regular jelly cubes will drop some loot if you kill them, but it's not worth the time it takes to kill them. Either the JK is healing, or the statuses that you're using to stop that are running down. Depending on how you and your buddies do things a few of them will die anyway, just from being in the wrong place at the right time when you release charge attacks and/or bombs detonate.

Sorry for the thread

Sorry for the thread necromancy (but then, at the time of this posting we're suffering an undead shortage anyway :P ) but I wanted to double check if I was set to solo him. I built a 4* sinister skelly set before I knew that the set was rather underpowered in the metagame. I have that and an ascended caliber. Is this good enough to solo him reliably?

I created a thread on this a little while back to see if someone could solo JK in 3* without dying. Golfdinger met the challenge and here's the video of it http://youtu.be/pqRm9qxArWw .
While Golfdinger's gear was a bit more optimized for killin' JK, I think that yours should still be viable for no-death runs.

http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/14449#comment-85558 <-- the thread if you're interested.
