Crowns Per Run

So, as a new player and a math-oriented thinker, I immediately start thinking about how to expand my playtime by taking the costs and profit to see what makes the most sense to do.

Tier 1:
-Energy Cost: 60 Energy (0+10+10+10+0+10+10+10)
-Crown Cost: 0
-Crowns Gained (Average): _____

Tier 2:
-Energy Cost: 80 Energy (0+10+10+10+10+0+10+10+10+10)
-Crown Cost: 200* (Optional - Skip T1)
-Crowns Gained (Average): _____
*More math on this to come

Tier 3:
-Energy Cost: 90 Energy (0+10+10+10+10+0+10+10+10+10+10)
-Crown Cost: 500** (Optional - Skip T1)
-Crowns Gained (Average): _____
**More math on this to come

Do not try to add materials/tokens dropped and collected to the average crown value.

Bonus if you can add hints and tips to making the most out of running any tier, such as how much Crowns you earn from doing a 3-Energy gate event.

Also, do you gain MORE or LESS crowns for having a smaller parties? I.E. Do crowns split based on the amount of people in the party or just give a flat value for each person in the group, whether it be 1 person or 3 people or 4?

Some Info

I'm pretty sure that all of the party will get the same amount of crowns, and I also go solo for profits, and party for fun. Why I go solo? I can reap all the materials, and sell them in the AH to get more profit. However, if you get most of your profits from big crystals, go with a party. By doing an energy gate, you will get a lot of crowns and heat than you normally do from that level, and it helps with profits. However, if going solo and not prepared, don't try to risk it, otherwise you'll lose CE reviving yourself. For Tier 1, average crowns gained is about 3.5k, and for tier 2 (if you're doing a Jelly King run), about 7.5k or so.

So T1 is about 3,500 Crowns?

So T1 is about 3,500 Crowns? That's about 58 Crowns (rounding down) per 1 Energy (60 Energy used).

T2 is about 7,500 Crowns for a King Jelly run. So let's knock that down to 6,500 for an average any T2 run.
If you pay to skip: 6500-200=6300 for about 78 Crowns (rounding down) per 1 Energy (80 Energy used).
If you do not pay to skip: 6500+3500=10,000 for about 71 Crowns per 1 Energy (140 Energy used).

Add in however much energy you spend/expect to spend on revives.

Materials that drop in T1 generally don't sell very high and if you're in a group you are really limited to how many you will get (I still don't understand the looting system...). But even if you add a generous 250 to materials earned from T1 and 500 earned from T2, the difference isn't that great.

Using this morning's 100CE <-> 5200 Crowns rate... 1 Energy is worth 52 Crowns. It is technically still profitable to run T1 so long as you get at the VERY least 3120 Crowns from the run (same logic applies to energy gates, spending 3 Energy has to net you at LEAST 156 Crowns) . This number will always change, though, and has gone up by about 700 in the 3 days I've been playing.

So I guess my goal is going to be to get the gear to solo T2 Royal Jelly to become self-sustained then branch out into T3 after that's established.

Can anyone offer a second opinion on average Crowns earned? How about tips for earning the most you can? I read somewhere that you can easily average 4000(+) per T1 run (~66 C per E)... anyone care to elaborate?

Just did a Snorbolax run

Just did a Snorbolax run introduce a friend to the game... gained 2789 crowns. That's pretty bad. We didn't get an arena route, though...

gettin moneyyy

This thread may be of interest to you. People post raw numbers of the crowns they gain and the depths/stage they played to get them.

http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/12822

Average cr gain
By the way, if you complete tier 1 in a gate, you lose the fee to start in tier 2. If you complete tier 2 of a gate, you lose the fee to start in tier 3.

Tier 2, I normally earn somewhere between 5k-7k (and of course, the last one I logged, I made over 9000 cr in one run!).

I'll have some more Tier 3 numbers up as I get better at soloing in T3, but it's somewhere between 6-9k on successful runs, and if you take into account the rare materials you might find, the possible profit jumps up even more.
-----
Profitable depths
I actually log my earnings per gate (I keep track of cr gain, energy use and 'cost' of energy per stage) - if you join any tier at a depth past Basil (ex: depth 4-7, depth 13-17, depth 23-28), the levels are profitable, whether you do a danger room or not. In any tier, you generally lose money playing the lower depths.

-----
Profitable stages, Danger rooms
Contrary to what it implies, Treasure Vault gives you way less crowns than any of the possible stages you can get. Graveyard tends to be fairly profitable, if you take it slow and kill everything. Danger rooms (the 3 energy gates with the waves of monsters) can net you 500-800 extra crowns before Basil, and anywhere between 800-2k post after Basil. Same thing with Arenas.

-------
Duo
This is more for ease and convenience, but if you have/find a friend you like playing with, duo with them. Monster HP is still fairly close to what it's like when you're soloing (so it's still fairly fast to kill monsters), both of you learn to play more carefully, and if one of you dies, the other can revive by sharing health with you. It's fairly doable to beat the Jelly King with two people - much more than solo (and sometimes, even moreso than with a 4 man party).

-------
Death and energy use
It's okay to revive yourself up to 2 times in a run. Don't ever use revive all, unless you're fighting an actual boss and everyone is dead and you're filthy stinkin rich (or just paid some money to get some CE :P).

-------
Recipes

When I made money in T2, it was through reselling recipes - figure out which recipes are in high demand, then resell them via auction house for anywhere between a 1-3k profit. But this requires capital - you have a chance at a better/faster profit if you have 10k than if you have 5k to 'invest' in recipes, and better/faster profit if you have 50k than 10k.

Sometimes, you might find rarer/in-demand materials that people are willing to pay quite a bit for. In tier 2, an example would be Ghost Bells, which sell for (at the very least) 2.5k. That's like having/finding a nice recipe and reselling it!

you get like 5-6k cr on each

you get like 5-6k cr on each jelly run. if you randomly join a party, chances are youlll end up partway through the dungeon, not having to spend energy on the trip down - say, you join in at floor 13, so you only have 1 random map and the 3 jelly rooms ahead of you.
as jelly castle 1 and 2 reap most money, youre in a good position for low cost, high yeild crownage. if you skip the boss, you save 10 energy on the trip, and whatever amount on revives. so essentially, you make 3-4k over the three 3 rooms - costing you 30energy. if you get lucky, you can do this 3 times on mist, netting enough to buy 200CE and spam some more.
if youre in the hunt for jelly tokens however, this isnt a very good solution, but hey, if youre hunting tokens, youre going to lose larger amounts of money anyway..

essentiallly
1. quick join a party on a jelly king gate
1-2. hope that you get some party that is at basil (hope the random dungeon is an ice/poison arena - highest non-JK crown map after graveyard + good loot)
2. leave just before boss, but be polite about it, tell other people beforehand, and drop your items before the elevator, as you ARE leeching off other peoples progress and any accumulated HP pots and whatnot would be appreciated by those continueing.
3. rinse and repeat.

OR, you can get them to pay your tab if they really need you. Therefore, you still get more money as long as you don't revive.

Someone please explain to me

Someone please explain to me how you're getting 4000 Crowns for a T1 run?

5 runs with a group of 4 people averaged at 2937
2 runs with a group of 3 people averaged 3122

I know this isn't a large sample size... but this is NOWHERE near 4000.

The runs I did would be Snarbolax (helping friends get tokens to make T2 easier to access). We always did the arena level as the first depth and completed the event. We clear every (well, probably 99.99%) bush or object that can drop crowns. Am I missing something here?

Also, I don't think it's worth paying 3 energy to open any gates before depth 4 (at the current rate of 5300, you need 53 crowns per energy spent to make it worthwhile).

@ energy gates

Generally, the only gates worth opening (unless you're looking for a chance at getting tokens) are danger room gates. They are always worth the 3 energy (assuming nobody revives more than twice).

Like I said in my earlier post, if you play an arena or danger room PAST depth 4, you'll make more money.

Yeah... I don't see how

Yeah... I don't see how people are getting 4000 crowns from T1 runs (unless you're selling all the materials you find).

T2, however, is proving very profitable. I'm sure I'll be able to solo royal jelly runs once I gear up, it seems easy enough (killed him twice already)

You can get alot more in a T1 run

What I've done to make money on runs is to look at exactly what stages are found in a current lift. For example, right now (June 30th 2011) there is a lift that has a guaranteed arena stage at level 5. I earn 1600-1700 in this stage alone, and it amounts to around 5000-5500 in the overall T1 run not including mats found or minerals collected.

It seems that boss lifts are less profitable than other lifts as you don't earn many crowns at all in the boss stage. Searching for lifts without bosses will generally give you more with that extra stage to produce crowns. I avoid the Snarbolax unless I need the tokens.

In general, graveyard and arenas below Basil will give you the most crowns. Danger rooms always help if you can handle them and are exponentially better lower in the Tier.

About the looting system,

About the looting system, that may (or may not) be important to know about when doing this stuff..

Crowns and heat are NOT divided.. If I pick up 10 crowns, ALL party members gain 10 crowns each.
Thats true for heat, minerals and tokens too.
Boss tokens are different, the amount is different depending on how many of the boss levels you completed before reaching the boss.

The materials are totaly random, no matter who picks it up.
As soon as a material is picked up, the game randomizes anyone in the party to get it. Even those who are still loading to join!

You can decrease your team en

You can decrease your team en lose if join already moving party.
Join random party, be sure they passed unprofitable rooms. Then go solo, lock party, set friend invition and invite all your budds.
In T1 you can do it to pass first 3 stages and save 30 en and still get 3,5k for rest of run. By saving 30 en team doubles gain in T1.

idk if anyone mentioned, but

idk if anyone mentioned, but u can reduce that 200 cr for T2 if u do the gate progression aka clearing T1 for that gate.

T1 averages around 3k, max

T1 averages around 3k, max I've ever gotten was 5k (the 2 floors before Moorcraft were arenas).

T2 the average seems to be about 5-7k, back when we had the 3 arenas before Basil in the JK gate was making a good 10k per run but that was a rather rare exception to the rule).

T3 I honestly haven't kept track of enough to know how much I average.

The crowns you make are very dependent on luck and the floors you do. If you are doing say... Concrete Jungles, Treasure Vaults, Jigsaw Valley, or Deconstruction Zones you're going to get pretty low Crowns. If you are doing Arenas, Graveyards, Scarlet Fortress, Danger Rooms, or any boss stratum you'll get pretty good Crowns.

Also Energy Gates, other then for Danger Rooms are almost never worth opening. 3 Energy at current market price is about 160 Crowns, you probably will not get that from the chests behind the gate.
