I tried doing this run today, naively joining a random party from depth 9. We got to the terminal then it all went horribly wrong.
To start off, we lost one teammate because he didn't have ce to keep going (decided not to pay for him because he wasn't really helping at all and furthermore, he was begging for ce). While traversing the depth leading to the boss fight, I kept being left alone going through the levels because my teammates kept getting themselves killed (and, in at least two occasions, myself), this was, to say the least, incredibly annoying.
I somehow managed to pull the whole party to the boss fight, where it all went downhill in less than a minute, being a party of 4 it was all beyond chaos, everyone kept hitting the switches and killing each other accidentally, eventually we all died. At this point one person left and I decided to revive myself, I had already gotten the mechanics of the boss and was doing pretty well, until I accidentally revived another teammate (who joined one level before the boss) because he was right by a switch I intended to hit, he managed to successfully get both of us killed.
I decided to get rid of him (since he would only leech the tokens/rewards, and had just joined by luck a level before), after doing so I revived myself once again and then proceeded to finish off killing the bosses all by myself, after I was done I decided to revive the leftover teammate in an act of sympathy so he could get the artifact (since he'd already leeched off the tokens/rewards)
In the end, I spent around 150 ce, and got an achievement, 3 of those new tokens, an artifact and a lot of dissappointment from the other players I was partying with (even though I might come off as obnoxious for saying this, at least some gratitude wouldn't hurt, that last person who ended up getting the full rewards from me killing the boss with my effort and CE spent reviving didn't accept my friend request, even less did he say thanks to me or anything...)
tl;dr: Do not attempt to do this in a party, even less if it's strangers. After some practice, one should be able to go through it smoothly and avoiding any revival expenses, although it won't ever become a profitable run (I doubt you can get back the equivalent in crowns of the ce you pay to do it). Although the new kind of levels does provide for a refreshing change of the usual gameplay, I dare to say it is fun and truly requires some thinking, not just mindless whacking. I'm looking forward to getting all the weapons attainable with those tokens.
@Sourbuddie
Chances are they won't allow scuttlebots in boss level to ever drop crowns or heat. In Vanaduke its like that with the skeletons I believe, and in Jelly King its also like that (to a certain point, the first medium size jellys there drop heat/crowns, but if you kill them all the rest won't after they respawn).
Perhaps in a nod to JK, they could make the first set of scuttlebots offer heat/crowns but not the ones that spawn afterwards.
