So I'm now using Spiral plate armor+helm, a jelly shield, a blaster, and the cutter. I like how the cutter is still very fast even with the plate armor, and the jelly shield negates the loss of sleep resist and as a result my attack speed, normal def, and stun resist are through the roof(for 2* gear anyway). I'm saving my tokens to get the ancient plate set and plan to stick with the same general specialties as I advance the rest of my gear.

Now since I'm leaving my self lacking in some areas, what types of enemies should I avoid, what should I aim for, and what gun should I get at top tier for the most dmg spread?

Edit: oh yeah, I've been playing for 3 days so kinda noobish to this game.

Simply, this isn't the kind of game you tank in. Dodging and Shield-Bumping are keys, so use a set of armor that slow you down and doesn't give the right defenses will make you die quickly, and be a burden to your team.

Just a note, take a look at some of the topics around here about equipment. You'll often see that Elemental armor is priority, with normal as a secondary. Elemental attacks are the hardest to dodge in the later game since they carry almost all of the ranged, fast, AoE attacks. While normal is nice because almost every attack carries at least some normal damage, being pure normal will mean everything in Tier 3 is going to take off 5+ bars an attack with no armor.

Drop the Spiral set, pick up either Wolver or Magic. These are good sets that will help you out early on and will upgrade to 5* armors. Look for an Owlite shield, its the standard shield for pretty much everyone because it carries elemental defense [see above] and has resistances to shock and fire, two devastating status.

The only viable defense in

The only viable defense in this game is "don't get hit." Armor in this game is for giving you more wiggle room for when you do get hit. You need to set the Defend button to something you can reach easily, and use it to deflect any attacks you don't think you can dodge. Otherwise... the best defense is not a good offense, it's "get outta the way!"

More advice here, about a guy who had the same idea as you, but accepted the new mindset like a champ.

I played wow and other type

I played wow and other type of mmo's for a long time. after playing tier 1 and joining tier 2 i thought SK was the same. The "dps your lil heart out till the mob(s) were dead then heal up'. but SK isn't the case. SK is a game where you really don't want to get hit at all. SK rewards patience over brute strength rawr'ing.

There is one Ghost Block in the Jelly King levels where if you hit the block as soon as you get to it, you'll end up land locking yourself in with 3 Floor Spikes around you. So I learned when I run up to it, to wait till one of the Floor Spikes are down then hit the Ghost Block. This gives me plenty of room to dodge incoming jelly's and get to a location where I can safely kill the jelly's.

Also while in another Jelly King level, there is one room where you have to hit 4 buttons to release the lumber which is guarding the key. For the Ghost Blocks there you wait until the Jelly is finishing its attack, then hit the Ghost Block. Otherwise you hit the Ghost Block and proceed to get hit by a Jelly.

I've learned that if I happen to get low on health, let the 3 other people attack stuff and wait for hearts to drop.

Ok I get the whole "get outta

Ok I get the whole "get outta the way!" thing, but the problem with that is I'm on an old compaq presario v2000 laptop that has 756m ram. So I sometimes lag to the point of 10 secs of nothing I can do. so far this build has helped me in tier 1. Now as things are looking if multiple defenses are to be required so be it, I think for the time being I will upgrade to drake scale armor and helm(followed by wyvern scale, then at 5* a combo of dragon scale and divine) and get the plate shields(and later maybe the dread skelly shield), thus giving me some good all around defenses and some fire and stun resist without impacting my movement nor attack speed.

As for weapons, at 5* I was thinking between combuster or glacius for swords and I would like to get the sentenza so I will have the spread of the 4 dmg types. While it's not as "tanky" as I like for my characters it's probavly the best I can do to prep for my laggy runs. I just have to watch out for shadow dmg till I get that skelly shield.

If you lag for 10 seconds in

If you lag for 10 seconds in a mob at t3 you simply will not live. Each hit from anything that far in the tiers is like 5 bars if I remember what I read correctly.
You wont be able to make up for loss of life from lag with equipment in this game. Like other people have said, it's all about timing your shield and your ability to dodge that keeps you alive in this game. If you're lagging as bad as it sounds, I honestly don't see you making it through tier 2.
You need a better machine to play on, my friend. haha

If you are constantly lagging

If you are constantly lagging my advice is:

1) turn graphics on low. (You won't be missing much. At low settings the background turns hazy and stops moving.)

2) Go into advanced video options and turn on compatibility mode. SK might restart when you do this, so don't do this in the middle of a dungeon. Here you will take a graphics hit. Jellies will be the most noticeable since they will be opaque instead of translucent. Other enemies might look simpler if you look closely at them. Also energy doors will have bars on them. But, it greatly improves the performance of the game.

3) Take a gun. If you can't play with a sword due to lag, then you might be able to play with a gun because gunners have more time to react to enemies.

If you are still having problems, then you may need to upgrade your computer to play the game.

--edit--

Occasionally the game lags out even on good computers. Some of the tips in this thread may help you there. Just make sure to copy the shortcut on your desktop (If you you open SK that way) so you can restore the shortcut if the tweaks don't work.
