I think it is much easier to do 1-29 solo. That is how I did mine. I am still amazed I survived all the stages of the 3 or 4 arena's I did.

I guess there's a difference
I guess there's a difference between "good drops" and "smooth run".
Today I joined a PUG, and right after I joined, the other two people left. So I went ahead and soloed the rest of the level. And I got two five star mats that same level, and didn't have to share them, because the other two people left. Then later today, I was in another PUG, and the other person left when he died. So I finished the level and again, got two five star mats that very same level, and didn't have to share them because the other person left. Not that I'm complaining that they left, mind you.
As for a smooth run, I once made it from Moorcroft Manor all the way into Jelly Palace (not very far into Jelly Palace, but that's still five full levels between them) without taking damage. Another time, I did two all-devilite levels at depths 24-25 consecutively without taking damage. Both of those were in PUGs, and others in the group got hit a fair bit during that time, though.

Best run I did was what... 2 sun silver, 7 warp dust, 5 bushy tails, 3 heavy gears... don't recall what else. All I know? Full T3 run that amounted to a gain of 80k crowns after selling mats on the AH.
