I'm new and have gotten to T2 on a sword swinger, but am very interested in the gunslingers. I've read allot of information here on armor, and tactics, but haven't seen much on what handguns I should be trying to get or making for myself at the different tiers. I was hoping some of you gunslingers out there would help me out.

Now I know that many people don't think the gunslinger is viable, and that they are no good in groups, and such. Don't care. Ill solo with him then or play only with my friends. I still want to try it out.

Thanks for any input.

gunslingin

I am currently a gunslinger, and I do fine in groups and even better solo.

My current gear is

Sunset coat (4star gunslinger jacket)
Sunset hat (4star gunslinger hat)
Wise owlite shield (level10...Soon 5star!!)

and for guns...

Hail Driver (elemental... great for solo[chance to freeze]) (5star version of the freeze alchemer)
Umbra Driver (shadow dmg...great for taking care of jellies and gremlins[mine has UV for gremlin dmg low])
Argent Peacemaker ---- 5star version of Antigua... Piercing // elemental dmg <---- AWESOME GUN
Sentenza ---- 5star version of Antigua... Piercing // Shadow. <---- AWESOME GUN
Supernova (Normal Dmg AOE effect.) great for groups of mobs.
Callahan --- 5star magnus. Great for sniping healers or fighting fiends.

I use whichever guns best suit the scenario.... but between the Argent peacemaker and Sentenza there's almost no need for any other guns >:P
I also plan on eventually getting the normal dmg Autogun that causes fire.... the Volcanic Pepperbox I think it's called?

Two popular threads with lot

Two popular threads with lot of info about handguns:

Ask a Master Gunslinger Anything by FossaFerox (may be a bit outdated).
Ask another Master Gunslinger Anything by Revolver.

If you don't have time to read them all here and now ;-) you may check two useful posts with some opinions of famous gunslingers (of course these are just personal opinions, but I think they are worth reading anyway):

Yay, guns

Imo, the best starting gun is probably a blaster, but as you approach 5*, today's best guns are Polaris (or another alchemer), Callahan and Umbra Driver.

Catalyzer's good and fun to use, but it's not good for groups, since allies kill your target before you can detonate it.
Autogun is good damage, but not good on fast/dodging monsters because you can't stop your attack, move or turn while shooting.
Callahan is also a little bulky for my liking, but most people swear by it anyway.
The alchemers are fast and the ricochet is lovely when firing into mobs.
Pulsar is amazing damage and has great AoE, but the bullets travel slowly.

Antigua is okay, but it's really situational and if you're trying to be a real gunslinger, don't use it, since the split damage combination is pretty awful--split damage in general sucks (I think Antigua's the only weapon in the game with split damage anyway).
Argent is okay on undeads and fiends, but fiends also dodge. it's not a bad gun for the occasional out-of-reach construct though.
Sentenza is even worse than Argent because it's only useful on beasts/gremlins, both of which dodge. I guess the bullets are fast enough to hit, though?

As for armor, either Nameless or Deadshot are good, maybe mix and match pieces. Shadowsun is pathetic because of the debuffs, and Justifier is just Nameless with piercing defense, and piercing damage barely exists. :P

Argent Peacemaker ---- 5star version of Antigua... Piercing // elemental dmg <---- AWESOME GUN

But i would recommend a Vog Cub set as it has fire resist. Best for VD runs.

I agree.

Also note that 5* version of Blaster - Valiance - has a nice knockback. Recently I've found it very usefull against Mecha Knights (unless there are more then three of them when I'd rather use my Storm Driver). Mecha Knight usually blocks first projectile from Valiance, but second and third one push it back quite a bit and let me keep this nasty construct at safe distance for entire fight.

I've heard Pulsar knocks back enemies too but I haven't tested it myself yet so I can't compare those two handguns just yet.

@unicornkitty: I can't resist

@unicornkitty: I can't resist pointing out that Antigua gun lines, Sealed sword lines, Brandish sword lines, and Crystal bomb lines all have split type damages.

Yes, they have all have split damage... but their split is with normal. The Antigua lines (and Sun Shards line) are unique in that both of them have 2 special damage types as their damage. Making the AP effective against Undead and Fiends (Devilites dodge), and the Sentenza effective against Gremlins (which dodge) and Beasts (where the Wolvers dodge). And useless against everything else as the other enemy types will resist one of the 2 damage types of the gun.

I'm using a Master Blaster atm and I intend to get Valiance soon, when you say nice knockback, I assume you're referring to charged shots?

@bushwhacker

Regular shots have a knockback too, just a bit smaller then charged one.

What the hell!? Some Gunslinger in here ... omg worst ever seen!

Now I know why most of the gunslinger here cry around they deal so minor damage... You just use the worst gunslinger weapons I've ever seen!

For example "Vythe22". No offense but if you thing the Antigua Series are good gunslinger weapons then you better should get into a voc cup set and also use a sword or something ...

Let's come to the main point of a gunslinger: As gunslinger you will allways be able to shot with a weapon that deals bonus damage to target X. Thats the main reason why a gunslinger never should take a Sentenza or an Argent Peacemaker... They both have 50% shadow/elementar and 50% piercing damage. This means you will never deal massive bonus damage. But let's explain why with Silversix and Strike Needle:

Silversix in Stratum 6:
Silversix is Elementar and Piercing

Silversix deals versus Slimes and Gremlins 45 Damage (Resist to Pierce or Elementar, other Stat is Neutral [- =]) -0.5
Silversix deals versus Beasts and Construct 60 Damage (Resist to Elementar or Pierce, other Stat is Effective [- +]) ±0
Silversix deals versus Fiends and Undead 80 Damage (Weak to Pierce or Elementar, other Stat is Neutral [+ =]) +0.5

Lets take a look at the Strike Needle in Stratum 5:
Strike Needle is Piercing Only (!)

Strike Needle deals versus Slimes and Construct 20 (x6) Damage (Resist to Pierce [-]) -1
Strike Needle deals versus Gremlins and Undead 60 (x6) Damage (Neutral to Pierce [=]) ±0
Strike Needle deals versus Beasts and Fiends 90 (x6) Damage (Weak to Pierce [+]) +1

The Silversix deals 45-80 cause of -0.5 up to +0.5, the Needle deals more radical differenced damage, from 20 to 90 cause of the 1 Type System, where the Bonus is -1 to +1.
You see, normal damage 60 is increased by 50% to 90 if effective but is decreased by more than 60 at ineffective. At Silversix only 1 Part of Damage Type is affected wich cuts the malus or bonus at half.

And because a Gunner has an Gun for every Enemy Type you will be forced to deal allways maxed bonus damage, the Antigua Series are Guns for Swordmen. Piecemaker is the best Weapon for Sword or Bomberman.

So you should use an Elementar (Driver or Pulsar), a Shadow (Driver or Catalyzer), a Piercing (Callahan) and now your happy!
