I'm basing my setup on Shoebox's recommendations which are a Vile Striker, a Gran Faust, a Divine Avenger and a Final Flourish. I was wondering about the snarble barb line though. I don't have guns but i'll have two swords with charge attacks that shoot out projectiles (i probably wont use the faust's actually). So should i get the snarble barb line and have some more projectiles, or should i just take the more powerful flourish, because i have the avenger? I mean, i know the DA won't help against gremlins and Wolvers, but those darn wolvers are always dancing out of the way of my bullets anyway.
Flourish or Snarble?
The only difference between flourish series and snarble barb series is the charge attack; flourish has a high damage single target attack that takes longer, while snarble barb has a mi damage multi-target attack that's a little shorter. Both can be hard to aim perfectly, but if you miss with snarble barb's charge attack you'll generally still deal some damage.
Snarb's charge attack works best if you can land it at point-blank so all the hits connect with the same monster, but it has a backstep, so you need to be backed up against a wall to do so. Flourish's charge attack also needs to be used at point-blank, has no backstep and leaves you open if you miss.
One other thing to note is that snarble barb's charge attack upgrades twice as you level it; gaining 3 more projectiles at 4* and an extra hit from Snarbolax himself at 5*. The flourish line, on the other hand, never really changes.
As already mentioned, the charge attack is the only difference. They both deal the same damage and have the same combo for regular attacks. I personally prefer the Snarble Barb series, but I've never had a flourish to test how high the damage from the charge attack is in comparison; just prefer Snarb's utility.
^What I said but more detail :P
I thought the Snarble Barb and Flourish were identical numbers-wise? The only difference is their charge attack, in which case I would suggest you take the Final Flourish to complement the Faust/Avenger's spray attacks with a charging strike.
There was a long discussion on the same topic recently:

^ I disagree, the charge attack on the flourish has little use (trust me, i have one :P ) it has increased power but against the enemy types you'll be using it on it could get you killed easily and using the 3-hit combo is just as effective :D
I currently own a swift flourish and find myself never using the charge attack. I'll probably end up getting a snarble barb because of the charge, and also I like the barbarous thorn blade's look better.
I have the 5* Barbarous Thorn Blade and not only have i found it amazing in Firestorm Citadel, its also really cool. I believe it is beter than the 5* Final Flourish in many ways.
For Vanaduke at fully heated/leveled it does:
1) 230 dmg on regular attack last slash/lunge dealing 270 (numbers are rounded)
2)Charge does 400 on initial slash with Snarby phantom and spikes doing 88 dmg each. Thats more than the Silversix at level 10 (I have that too.)
3) The charge goes through force fields. The whole entire charge.
4) The Charge prijetiles are not interfered by walls like the Divine Avenger's
5)Assuming 8 spikes hit the opponent (point blank) the damage dealt is over 1000!!!! No joke it seriously is. ( [88*8] + 400= 1104
6) Is supereffective against trojans doing aout 70 dmg more.
7)Snarby ftw!!!!!
***These calculations were made on the damage dealt on Skellys since they are the most conmmon monster mob in Firestorm Citadel.***
Well I hope you decide which is better (snarble) and I wish you the best of luck on your runs!
So, I have the Dark Thorn Blade, and I just need to get the recipe for the Barbarous Thorn Blade to level it up. I love love love this weapon, and it can even be extremely useful in the Firestorm Citadel. Use it on a group of zombies and it works wonders, especially in a part in level 27 where there is a large full circle of spikes. The DA pushes them back too far and they get in your way, but the Barbarous Thorn Blade pushes them back enough to where they go back to the middle of the circle. Anyway, in my opinion, definitely go for the Snarble Barb - Barbarous Thorn Blade series.
The damage numbers from Final Flourish are basically exactly the same Xylka. As everyone else mentioned, the only difference is between the charge. The Final Flourish has high damage on one target, while the Barb has the possibility for high damage on one target (kinda hard to pull off) or a medium damage aoe type deal. Personally. I feel that since you're already headed for the DA, whose charge attack is basically the same as the barb blade, I'd stick to final flourish

so what it sounds like is that a thorn blade might be more useful in general, but if i'm going to put it with a faust and Avenger, i should have a flourish. Right?
I currently use a Dark Thorn Blade with a Faust and Divine Avenger, and I'm glad I have it as opposed to the Flourish. You mention gremlins and wolvers in the OP; I use my Dark Thorn Blade's charge attack for kiting groups of enemies in gremlin/wolver danger rooms all the time, since both of those enemies are strong against elemental and wolvers don't dodge the projectiles from my blade.
The damage difference is tiny, you won't notice it so the only real differences are the special attack and the looks :P
The flourish looks better (in my opinion) but I never use the special attack on my one, the snarbles special actually has some use.....
Also, as a side point I wouldn't get dread venom on that setup, one sword of each damage type should surfice and save you 250 ce each month :) also, I hate having to scroll through weapons... just a point :P
