Ask a Master Swordsman Anything.
Sorry, I tend to lag.
I only post from my IPhone/Ipodtouch so... Yeah.
Is a vile striker worth it for the jelly king? I have wolver, a bristling buckler, a nightblade, a striker and some other weapons. I already have the silent nightblade recipe, 25000 crowns and 11 jelly gems (need 20). Should i still get a vile striker?
Make a swordsman guide. Really.
Aight, another really common question that still has no right or wrong answer. You suggested DA and GF + BTB. Now, personally, I'm into faster blades than what I generally know DA and GF to be, and from what I've heard, Acheron has been regarded by many as the shadow sword of choice, over GF. However, based on your opinion, which one would be better given someone who would already be armed with BTB, a gun, and a bomb?
If you were forced to wear the ancient plate set in tier 3 what weapons would you equip?
@dilbert Since ou already have the cutter you nay as well.
@flam GF
@trying Nitronome, DA,Gran Faust AP.
Do you have one, and if so, do you find it useful?
I used to carry one around me at all times, but between the lack of power within the charge attack, and the fact that all the moving around
during the combos was dangerous, I stopped using it. I just wanna know if if there are any reasons to use it.
A 'master' swordsman only brings one sword into the FSC with him? What? Am I missing something here? I mean, okay, you kinda need a gun for vana, and the shiv does help, especially the dum-i mean less capable-parties....but a second gun...for running away? Replace one of them with a flourish line or the btb, and you'll have the trojans screaming all the way back to whence they came. If you don't own a flourish line or btb...just kill this thread. Kill it and open another titled "Ask a T3 guy anything!" because you wouldn't be a 'master' swordsman by any standard, if such a thing can even exist.
Also, a big no to the armor recommendation. The only dangerous source of pierce damage is from an alpha wolver, which will chomp straight through your defenses regardless if you're naive enough to charge the thing when it's about to attack, and which are easily disposed of with any pierce weapon. Until they release new content, throw pierce out the window, you're far better off pairing a divine veil with norm/sha or norm/sha (stacking fire res if you plan on tons of FSC). Or if you're as over-confident as me, go ahead with full divine. Love it, never looked back.
What do you think about these equips?
Skolver Coat 5*
Ash Tail Cap 4*
Grey Owlite Shield 5*
Acheron 5*
Dark Thorn Blade 4*
What do you recommend as an elemental sword?
Looking for advice and opinions. :)
Edit: O yeah, i forgot to mention I have a Wimillion.
Bigfootm you do know that the ancient plate set gives you attack speed decrease medium right?
It makes the DA and Gran Faust practically unusable.
micheal, hope your getting a Vog cap.
I suggest a DA, also a fang of Vog.
I wasn't planning on getting Vog Cub Cap, but now that you mention it, it does seem like the way to go...
And with the swords, well, as you may have noticed, I'm not exactly geared up for getting the
Fang of Vog. So ty for the advice, and I'll consider the DA.
=)
WTF DARK RITUAL? um, is there something wrong with the air conditioner that you're using to post comments?
Okay, hope that helped. But you kinda want Vog FDIC the ele defense and fire resist. I'd Also like to metion the FOV is a 3 hit sword (Like the proto sword) while the DA is only two. Just in case you were wondering.
@zep
That was a while back, now I use a FoV (Can 1 hit most I not all things with charge, I have MAX CTR), DA, and either my Leviathan Blade with a AP or storm Driver or AP and storm. I rarely use my shiver now although sometimes I switch things around.
Next?
Oh, I'm also working on getting a BTB.
@BigFootM You realize you can put more than one paragraph in a post right? You don't have to make separate posts for everything (unless you think that having lots of posts makes your thread look good).
Honestly, this thread isn't up to the standards of the other "Ask" posts. I suggest adding something to the OP besides "ask away," so that people will actually consider this to be a "serious" thread (although I think that went out the door a while ago). Add some helpful information; sure gear is fine but what most players would come to threads like these for is general swordplay tactics and tricks.
It isn't a bad idea don't get me wrong, but it needs a lot of work to be legit. I recommend looking at Fallout's bomber thread, Tyrel's gunner thread(s), and my solo thread for an idea of what you could do with the OP.

Trihelix
I hate editing. Rakes too long. I don't want to make my thread like yours. Mine is "unique".
Owlite Shield Uv Shadow Or Uv Piercing
which one is better?
Also Wolver Coat (Skolver Coat) UV Shadow or UV Elemantal which one should I go for?
My head is Divine Vail,,
Many thanks
I recommend trying to get both but get piercing. Unless you are not going to get a Crest of Almire. Then get shadow. Matter of fact, get shadow either way.
Peace~

Another Question
Wolver Coat (Skolver Coat) UV Shadow or UV Elemantal which one should I go for?
My head is Divine Vail,,
Many thanks
Neither unless you have a Vog Cub Set/Coat.
If you have a Vog cub coat/set and Use it in FSC, elemental. If you don't, get fire resist.
Alright BigFootM, I have a couple questions!
What did you name your swords, what are their personalities like, and what kinds of stuff do you talk about or activities/dates that you go on together?
(A master swordsman can plainly see that all swords are alive, and do have souls, so my question is very legit. ^^)
i'm going to have Barbarous Thorn Shield (passive: dmg bonus med) and Vog Cub full set (passive: asi bonus very high).
my swords is going to be Divine Avenger + Gran Faust (already).
2 questions there:
1) should i make third weapon Argent Peacemaker (specially for vanaduke) or Barbarous Thorn Blade (for piercing damage) ? i dont like Polaris so dont suggest this gun to me. Question is AP or BTB as third wespon?
2) What 2 trinkets(modules) should i get for mine set? 2 elite slash? or 1 elite slash + 1 elite quickstrike? i'm thinking about 2 slash, but getting 1 quickstrike is good for my 2 slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwww swords.
Ideas, suggestions?
@schwa
My swords are called: La Fang (FoV), Immortality (DA), too many more to name.
We go and kill Vanaduke and King Jelly as a date.
@raw
You WILLneed a argent peacemaker for FSC.
Barb thorn is good, but you will need a gun for there. I HAD to kik someone one time because all he brought was a leviathan. I told him to even grab his proto gun or go buy a zapper, he denied. No gun=Fail at Vanaduke.
Trinkets you should get-
I think they buffed the AP because mine did 87 or so per shot (6 shot clip) and now does 102. Both were with a elite Trueshot. Back on topic, the damage is good and all, but CTR can and probably will be more helpful for the DA (and especially the GF, 5 seconds or so charge time). In most situations such as the end of D26(?) of FSC where there is that healing pad, spike traps, then that little spot to kill zombies. All I ever use is DA charge there. I can clear very fast. I recommend you get the Damage for sword AND a CTR one. I am thinking about trashing my Elite Trueshot (Rarely even use my shivermist anymore. Trashed my Ctr bomb one a while back) but keep denying I should because 325-350 damage a hit, and almost 700 a charge isn't bad.
Hope this helped!

Thanks for that answer, BigFootM! U're great ;)
Going for AP and 1 Slash + Sword Focus
btw.
Yeah Roma, thats my name :D
No prob, shoot me a friend request ingame about this thread if ya want. :)
BTB is a ridiculously good sword, honestly it's perfectly suited to it's purpose and even better once you learn to abuse the amazing first swing with shield cancelling (fast, wide reach, knockback, safe!). Seriously if they released a sword that was a carbon copy of DA but piercing i'd still use BTB, it's that good - just learn to not rely on 3hit combos and you're good to go
DA is a no brainer for elemental as its borderline broken and again, perfectly suited for its purpose (brandishes are only better on gun puppies really, despite the status effects)
GF/Acheron are both good. I (and may others) believe acheron is flat out better though, but despite that i still use a faust
anyway i know i may be just reiterating what people have been saying here and not answering any specific question BUT these are your best choices for each damage type by FAR, i hope thats put it beyond any doubt (if you only want 2, go ach/BTB imo)
Also i do infact have a question for mr bigfoot; as you seem to be a fan of the GF, do you have any hard numbers on the length of its charge at 5* vs 4*? and the affect different CTR levels have on it? (med, vh, max)
Don't get Argent Peacemaker for FSC. Get a Polaris or a Blitz Needle. Both do superior damage in FSC and against Vanaduke.
Hi
i just crafted a calibur with attack speed HIGH, and dmg vs beast MED
should i go for attack speed amour set, or damage bonus set?
and if it matters, i have swiftstrike shield.
should i bother trying to craft/buy a ctr medium/high? is it important for swordies?
Did you know that the Antigua line I the only gun that can shoot through barriers?
Except that's wrong.
Lol why are you shooting things through barriers? Are you so bad with swords that trojan friendly-fire outdamages you?
@BigFootM What do you mean the Calibur charge is "Good"?
It's the best in the game. It beats the hell out of any other charge attack, except for DA which comes close, but still not as good.
FoV would be great, but sadly it takes more then 10 bars without fire resist, and even with max fire res it still causes 4 bars.
You cannot spam the charge with the FoV with low health as the you with the calibur series.
Acheron I believe is much superior to GF. Perhaps you could give a little knoledge why GF is better? Because just saying "GF" is lame.
Regards,
~Rangerwill~
Another thing, every gun can shoot through barriers. Antigua is one of the best at it, but not the best.
Best imo is the Needle shot line. Extremely well at shootin through barries. Does far superior damage then the AP.

~Rangerwill~
"The Calibur charge is good, not great. CTR is good on a few swords. Divine Avenger, Fang of Vog, and Barbarous Thorn Blade."
Have you ever even used calibur before?
anyways master swordsman, please edit ask away out and put in every sword you have actually had experience with, and what gear you use what on
Bigfoot is a very opinionated and rash from my experience of him on here. He may well be a master swordsman, and I certainly wouldn't be qualified either way, but he has a way of butting his head into conversations he seems to either know very little about or wishes to play a devil's advocate towards.
Is there any other reason I should take a vile striker? Sorry but with the info I gave you I'd like a better response than "since ou already have the cutter you nay as well." shouldn't a " master" swordsman be able to give a more thorough response?
I'd have to agree with tri, you need an actual OP instead of "ask away." something like rawrcake suggested. I also agree with tri that good examples would be fallout's thread and timanth's thread
Uh... BigFoot have you used a Leviathan before? Fang of Vog is simply a trophy weapon; it doesn't cost you any valuable CE to get it, so OOO decided to make it worthless. Barbarous charge is fine, but in an arena setting where most monsters are Constructs you're going to have problems. Also it doesn't really have any notable knockback. Divine Avenger is closest, but its charge time is considerably higher than Levi's. Levi can go anywhere, has a low charge time, and has the sickest knockback of any sword in the game. How is that not great?
Antigua line is the best weapon to shoot through barriers, but it is far from the only one. And why would you even really need to bring 3 Antiguas to FSC? Shouldn't a "master swordsman" be able to handle things without exploits? Just saying...
@Dilbert Unless you attempt Jelly King solos every day all day, don't get a Vile Striker. Outside of that one situation it is utterly worthless. If you want a great normal damage weapon get a Calibur, then pick up an Avenger for FSC later on.
wait, people actually took this parody thread as serious and not a terrible attempt for attention like 90% of his other posts?
@ok495 ok thanks. I don't attempt solo runs all day every day, but I do try to run him a lot for jelly gems (I just need 9 more). Usually though, I am with someone who has a vile striker or dread venom striker.
I'm sorry but whats not to love about brandish lines? Even though I like my GF's curse, Acheron helps when i feel like blowing up some monsters namely T3 gremlin thwackers & menders, slimes, and even mega lichen colonies. Both Acheron and GF have their places. the Sealed Sword line is mainly for those that want to play more defensively while the brandish lines are meant to be the more aggressive style of play(i have sometimes called my Acheron or Glacius swings, "slapping the monsters around").
I'll be the first to admit that i might not have as much experience with as many swords as bigfootM, but I have witnessed other swords in action and each one i dont have a line for there has been a reason of some kind.(Spur: too weak and causes stuff to shield/dodge, Cutter: can be dangerous if you get "click-happy" even at T2, Cautery sword: .... why even consider this sword?, next one deserves its own paragraph;
Calibur: yes its an ok sword and the charge attack might get you out of a sticky situation from time to time, but the only way for you to be able to get a monster to get hit 3 times by the charge attack is to back it into a corner or take on a gun puppy, first option isn't too viable for a party and either option can be hazardous to your teammates because any other monster following you can get knocked back and hit a teammate when they aren't expecting a hit( i've personally been killed twice by a lumber and a t3 jelly both in RJP and both because of a leviathan charge attack. lumber because they levi'd him from the front causing him to knockback and swing at me instead of them and second was from them targetting a gun puppy at the end of d16).
typically i use GF at jk IF one of my teammates isn't already using a faust/GF or has curse vials. otherwise about the only place i would use GF is maybe against the new polyps or an almost completely jelly arena. curse only adds a little bit of DPS to GF considering you have to get the monster cursed first for it to even start helping.
my swordsman gear:
Skolver Cap, Vog Cub Coat
Grey Owlite, Crest of Almire, Barbarous Thorn shields
Glacius
Acheron
DA
GF
BTB
Fierce flamberge (didn't like the charge attack throwing me onto traps so i npc'd it)
(also working on triglav recipe cause it looks sweet)
and the reason for "almost pure"? Silversix to get my Crest of Almire
Ps: For the three runs before I started bringing Silversix to FSC runs i actually brought Acheron
Think about this. The glacius may freeze the enemy, but the next hit will then break the ice. It's just Like the Hail Driver.
No need for a combuster, I got my FOV. Also no need for a Acheron, I got my GF. As for glacius, I have my DA. :)
The brandish line was just miserable for me. Ive been debating to get a Voltedge, and if I get some CE I probably WILL craft it, but will never use due to my current FSC Weps.
Glacius does 80% of the damage that DA does. It hits way faster and it's charge atk provides some level of cc. What's not to like? If you try fsc solo with max dmg and max ctr, you'll see that glacius charge freezes zombies and the very next hit kills them. DA can't come close to that. Charge atk on Trojans will freeze them most times and let you finish them off with another charge attack and swing.
Learn how to use a brandish line weapon before dismissing it. You'll also come to find out what most already know - that the fov is garbage in t3
You don't want to be playing this game Bigfootm.
Back in the day, I was with you on an FSC run where you joined us and were spewing out all this info about how experienced you were at killing Vanaduke. After we killed Vana (and rezzed you countless times), you admitted that it was your very first successful vana run and proceeded to pick up the reward module.
There's a reason why I dread allowing you in my Vana runs:
- You continue to make rookie mistakes and blame it on lag when there isn't any
- You talk big but have very few actual vana kills (Your last few comments to me were "Oh my, x more runs for a FoV or more recently x more runs for a Blackened Crest"). This is after you've posted on the forums that you've had these items for some time.
- You die frequently despite clinging to the safer (aka slower) methods of running fsc like with a Shivermist buster for crowd control rather than a buildout that maximizes DPS
Please stop this nonsense now before you make yourself look any worse.
