Is there some way to be compensated for buyng the wrong recipe and get it removed, it just happened recently..
I typed in Divine instead of Divine Veil in the recipe search box on the Auction House. I paid 28900 crowns for it, but little did I know that I had actually bought the Divine Cloak recipe. I learned it and now I am stuck with it. This happen just a half hour ago from the time I posted this thread.
Why do you put Divine Mantle and Veil with similar names? I mean sometimes it is designed to fool the player, and now I have lost all that days of work down the drain. Seriously, this isn't right to design them to have similar names just so you can push us to purchase energy with paypal, etc. Time is money too, it is an opportunity cost.
Why can't you compensate me the 28900 cr I paid for it and take the Divine Mantle off my recipe list? I'm never gonna use it, I'll just rebuy it if that happens, thanks. You get so excited to finally see a decent price for a Divine Veil after seeing it for exorbitant prices for almost 10 grand more for a 5 star recipe that costs 25k crowns that you don't look carefully at night.
My account name is Ranzoh, so I hope to god there is that tiny chance of admins like nick will help me out here, and see that I'm not lying and check the records in the database of the time and day that I bought it. This isn't some scam, I'm sure you have kept all our info.
I've tried many "Get rich quick schemes" in this game, and I'm CONSTANTLY trying to make up the crowns and CE I lose when I forget one minor detail. It sucks, but you just gotta catch it and remember it next time :(
Divine Mantle is pretty good though, it's one of the recommended items for a Vanaduke run. It's good late-game.
Would calling you a noob be going too far?
;)
That's the thing, Errodu. I don't have the magic cloak armor line so I need a 4 star cloak to get the Divine Mantle. The mantle is okay, but I prefer the Veil because it has extra fiend damage bonus. Also I can just replace it with other armor with similar stats somewhat like the Deadshot Mantle which would be some trouble for those in the Firestorm Citadel. I do not want to stick around for days showing people my miracle hood like I'm a noob. This is bull man. This is a serious plea, please do not turn it down just cause it is a lesson for me to learn. Approximately 30k is not something easy for me to make, and will not take a day because I'm stuck on Azure equipment and don't do well with t2/t3 bosses.
...You're going to craft the magic line. Either in the far future or maybe next week, you'll have enough crowns, experience, and boredom to craft the Magic set either to use it as a costume or to get the anti-fire, element, and shadow bonus.
Just think of it as a future investment controlled by forces we cannot comprehend ;D
Besides, it took me around a month and a half to get the right equipment to get to Tier 3. Since you literally joined today, I'm sure you'll have no problem.
Dude after I get all that, I'm probably never gonna get the Divine Mantle. It is a far off future investment. There are some mistake choices I've made like the Fire brandish line(well not really, just for FSC), but I still want to upgrade it fully. The Divine Mantle though is just one of those extraneous gears I don't need. I just prefer Deadshot Mantle for the extra Undead damage bonus and it has me covered in the Shadow protection stackup, plus I need some normal protection. It's my choice there, the difference is, this choice was done by mistake. I need freaking glasses, jesus christ.
They can just check my email inbox to see the date I purchased the Divine Mantle recipe and compare the dates and times between that and this thread, and check that I don't have the magic cloak series at all to have some credibility so it doesn't seem like I'm trying to make money or whatever, man, freaking, jesus, I can't believe no one has spoken out about this, this took too much money and I do dungeon runs, not craft to make money. I know I'm highly likely not the only one that had this problem.
...Fire in the Citadel will burn you for 2 units of health each two ticks. Most of the time, even with Fire Status Resist, you'll suffer 6 health loss per infliction if you don't have a shield that will absorb even more fire.
I don't usually die by fire in the FSC, it's usually the enemies...
Regardless, the plan is to get into the Citadel fast with some decent equipment, just my choice. I don't plan on starting adding a new line of gear to get.
So I take it Ranzo is just an alt then since he was made 07/31/2011... Yesterday.
Well, Ranzoh is suppose to be the alt because someone already took the name when I tried to register Ranzo during the game.

Resell the recipe in the auction house and you'll get most of the money back. That's actually a cleaner solution than trying to take the recipe out of the system while creating 28,900 crowns for you, as trying to undo the trade would have to take 26,010 crowns away from someone who may have already spent them and give him a recipe back that he thought he had gotten rid of.
Man, could of gotten close to 4 star gunslinger armor with the divine veil kind of crowns....oo man, that is not right at all. I need to make time for others, and you are...man.
I can't sell the recipe as I have already learned it. When I looked down the recipe list in the crafting machine, I checked twice and was a bit worried to not see the Divine Veil in the helmet list, then it hit me that I have bought the Divine Mantle instead. Don't you just love people getting kicks off that. Taking away 2 non-stop days worth of work like that, and say oh too bad, now we're pressuring you to buy more energy to cover the loss!
Here's what we know so far then;
-You bought a recipe thinking it was something else.
-You LEARNED the recipe, making it permanent on you.
-You have access to Tier 3.
-You've fought Vanaduke, or at least claim to have gone through his dungeon.
-You die by the enemies in his dungeon, needing both elemental and shadow based armor. Divine Mantle has that.
-You're using a mule, an alternate account while your actual account or main account.
-You've unlocked Tier 2 and 3 in one day.
-30k is not easy for you to make.
I'm slowly noticing that this mistake is a loud cry for a small wound.
I had no idea that we had to make the same name account with the forum and spiral knights game account? o.O What if someone already took your name from Spiral Knights. Didn't know they were connected.
30k isn't easy to make lol. I can't beat the Jelly King dude. I go solo only(except for FSC tier 3) cause I need the mats.
And I usually get through 3 depths solo on Tier 3 before I die. I need help with the FSC because of my current gear. I want to go solo for the mats like I said. Don't forget that tier 2 and 3 takes a lot more than your average 45 minutes from tier 1 dungeons, so it is really draining and repetitive to do this over and over and I am basing this on mostly luck or probability and I have only made it halfway to depth 25, and I don't start from the beginning, again joining a party and finding a depth based on chance. I might lose money after factoring in the cost of rebuying energy and paying for the elevator ride to tier 3(500 crowns).
Oh, I misunderstood. I thought you only have been playing since yesterday.
Either way, there's various ways you can earn the money back. And I still stand by my claim that you didn't really waste your money, but again you learned the recipe before reading it fully. I don't believe the designers of the game are at fault or should a "forget" feature be induced.
Yes, I know I shouldn't say that about the Divine Mantle, but I want the damage bonuses and I want to mix up my equipment. I believe I do need normal defense protection because some enemies show a red aura at their feet that do some good damage like Retrodes, etc. That is why I don't want to go for the Divine Mantle because it doesn't really cover that. Maybe for some masochist would like that but not for me(and I am proud to probably be the only player that can beat Double Dragon 3 with some ease).
These guys are going to put this on me.
All this cause I got so excited about finally getting the Divine Veil and finally moving on to another armor like Gunslinger. Excitement can blind you of course. But earning crowns for us poor hard working people and taking awhile like that and making us learn from that and redoing everything, just doesn't seem right when you see all these guys have hundreds of thousands of crowns and thousands of energy(one guy claimed he made 65000 ce from crafting) from videos like youtube and game forums just doesn't seem right at all. I don't want to offend anyone's political view either, especially the developers or admins here. I'll even go as far as to say the people that get expensive mat drops like shadow steel or sparks of life, flame soul, etc, because those guys are usually snobs. I've been kicked twice out of the group without much say, and one of them being a friend complaining about me, and this other guy calling me a noob, my friend complaining that I didn't come save him, and that you should never send an Azure Guardian to FSC(he never invited me to FSC anyway, he came and joined me, so I had him removed, and he or his "buddy" kicked me without saying the reason. I really just want to get that money back and the Divine Mantle recipe removed. Please check the email records from the Auction House, etc. The account name again is Ranzoh in the game. Databases of course too, etc.
5 star recipes are really expensive obviously. They should have an option where you can have a checkbox where you can't buy the wrong recipe that has a similar name because of the same armor line and prompt you with some message saying "Whoops, you're buying the wrong recipe of the same armor line" or something, and give you the option to uncheck it whenever you want to buy that wrong recipe in the future should you decide to. Even though I know that would just be painstaking effort to program.

This is an outrage, this is an obvious ploy by OOO to get your crowns and make more money. Its bad enough they charge for CE, now they get you on the auction house as well. Im tempted to phone the police.
"and give you the option to uncheck it whenever you want to buy that wrong recipe in the future"
Did you already check the box saying "Don't ask me again" to confirm that you're learning the correct recipe? Sure that extra click might be annoying but they already have a built in checking feature which you may of already willingly turned off

So let me get this straight:
You are mad at the developers because items that form two pieces of the same set have one word in their name in common? Seriously, WTF?
I understand that you are frustrated because you made a mistake. But it is YOU who made the mistake. You are obviously familiar with the gear options of SK. So, you know that each armor set comes in two pieces that have a similar name (basically XXX coat and XXX hat). You should have known to double check before you bought the recipe, and to recheck before you learned it. The only person you should be mad it is YOU. I really don't see anyway that you could blame this on anybody else. Take this as a lesson in responsibility.
Anyway in the past the GMs have shown quite a bit leniency towards acts of stupidity by players. What you should have done, was file an in game support ticket for GM assistance explaining politely that you made a mistake (none of this "... and it is your fault" business) and ask if they could please help you. That might have had a chance of working. So for future reference...
Call me heartless, but I'm surprised it took a total of 22 replies before Trias' sentiment was voiced on this subject. Sorry Ranzo, but I too believe this mistake falls squarely on your own shoulders.
this was a personal problem and not a problem with the game. The GM's have absolutely no obligation to help you in this situation and it would actually be better if they didn't. If they did, they would simply increase your chance of complaining to them as soon as something as little as typing the wrong word happens. As someone said above, live and let learn. Swallow it down and move on.
Jesus Christ, way to let a game not be enjoyed to the last 3 dudes. This just calls for a review of a game that doesn't stand on its own merits, punishing you terribly for trial and error. I earned my keep. If I called for a Divine Veil in verbal form in real life, I get the Divine Veil.
To the guy that mention the prompt asking if I want to learn the recipe, I didn't mean the actual one in the game. I've never checked that box to never ask me again. I mean they should(but are not obligated to) install a code where they give you the option where you don't learn the wrong recipe at all if it's sharing the same name like Divine, Mantle, or whatnot.

Dude, LIFE punishes you for trial and error. And you didn't call for a Divine Veil, you only specified the "Divine"-part which can fit into 3 different types of recipes.
You messed up, now be a man and suck it up!
Earning 35k crowns again, you are pushing it. Luckily I didn't purchase any energy with real money. It's easy to make a mistake with the names, argh. Forget and don't repost what others have alright if you think this is fair to do. Quit saying suck it up dude, it doesn't make you sound like the average adult(not young adult or those old folks who still club). If I want a refund that is perfectly understandable for the wrong product, that is perfectly understandable. Now, can I tell the developers to be a man and install the checks and balances I proposed? There's no need for verbal crap like that. This is not even trial and error man, regardless if you were offended if I chose the wrong term. Trial and error includes something you set your choice on and you test out the equipment, not making mishaps or unintentional like this. Like the Fire Brandish path I chose, I knew what I chose, which isn't bad at all, and that's one of the things I plan to upgrade in the near future.
You reap what you sow, honestly. You shouldn't come here to embarass yourself publicly.

You're right, this is not trial and error, it's just error. A refund for buying the wrong product is fine, but when you've already opened and used it, you shouldn't be able to get a refund because there's nothing wrong with the product. Used products are rarely returned for reasons other than faults.
Oh, and me not sounding like the average adult? I'll take that as a compliment.

How would that "checks and balances" (wrong term again btw) system you propose actually work. How is the game to know what is the "wrong" recipe. The only way would be for the game to assume that all recipes are wrong unless you tell it otherwise. I see two problems with this
1)It is incredibly annoying.
2)You could still make a mistake in telling it what recipes are the right recipes.
It is time for you to be a man (or woman) an own up to the fact that YOU made a mistake, and live with the consequences.

It might be heartless, but you did indeed make a mistake- in fact, you made two, by not checking carefully in the AH, and not checking carefully when learning the recipe. You didn't read closely, and you can't expect the game to read your mind and say "Ah, that player meant Divine Veil, not Divine Mantle or Divine Avenger." And it makes no sense for the "Divine" set to have two pieces with different name prefixes. Almost every set has the same name prefix- Sunset, Nameless, Justifier, Vog Cub, Skolver, you name it. Finally, 30k is a significant but not impossible sum. If you have T3 access and a mix of 4* gear, you can earn that 30k back in a week or so. Think of it as a lesson learned; I'm sure you'll be more careful about reading the details now, in the AH or otherwise.

Ranzo, if you don't even bother to check what are you buying, then it is entirely YOUR fault.
Supposedly, there is a thingy in your head called "brain". Use it! It'll make things much easier for you!
I made a similar mistake last night.
I sold a bunch of energy so that I could afford three of Tier 3 Basil's recipes: two five-star recipes and a four-star recipe.
I bought the wrong five-star recipe and ended up with a recipe that I had already learned.
Learning my mistake I sold the recipe in the auction house. Well, after palming myself in the face for such a silly mistake.
Chill, buddy. You made a mistake. Own it.
As another person said, if you seriously were looking for a refund you are going about this the wrong way. If any moderator or admin actually replies to this they will most likely just tell you to contact the customer support by sending a ticket. Posting this here, especially in the manner you did, is just asking for the whole community to get on your case. Whether they agree or disagree with you.
Personally, I do not sympathize with you. This whole "conspiracy" about similar named items being a money grab by OOO is nonsense. It is pretty common for RPGs or other games to have matching names for items that belong to a set. Not realizing what you were buying was carelessness on your part, and I do not believe they are obligated to refund you for it.
Wait, let me get this straight. You think that two parts of the same set should be called COMPLETELY different things? When did that begin to make any sense in your mind? I agree with the recent posters.
You made a mistake, too bad, better luck next time! At least now you'll be sure to check when you buy things off of the Auction house with several hours of playtime's worth of crowns. You're not an idiot for making the mistake, necessarily. You ARE an idiot for assuming the company providing this game owes you for you making your two, consecutive mistakes, and demanding compensation; if you weren't being an entitled ass, I'd feel sympathy for you, having bought the wrong recipe a few times before, like you.
I'm not some guy who thinks he's a hardcore motherflocker or what-have-you, either, but facing that you made a mistake is pretty fundamental to being a somewhat respectable person, in a game or not.
Why should Game Masters, with hundreds of tickets to attend to in their short, lowly paid time, spend their time investigating the fact that you made the wrong purchase, delete the recipe (assuming that's even possible for them), refund you the crowns and give you a ruffle of the hair, when you're bitching like this on the forums? I think saving groups from glitches of no fault of their own, and resolving offence reports etc is much more important a use of their time.
Also, how could the game possibly detect if you were looking for the other part of the set? Would this be a prompt on every piece of any set? (ie every piece of armor in the game currently)
I am all for a comfirmation prompt on AH purchases in general, however: maybe if the purchase costs you above 1/3 of your current crowns?
Yeah, it is the Divine Set.

Support tickets don't work btw. All they say is: Sorry we cannot issue any bonus [blank] or refunds.
Atleast that's what they said to me.

Isn't it a common thing in MMO that there are sets which share its name?! Every single MMO I know (I don't know that many but still) has similar item naming syle. For example Deadly Gladiator's Silk Cowl and Deadly Gladiator's Silk Raiment or Meowiarty's Icy Cap and Meowiarty's Robe of Ice and so on.
I'd advice to read before buy/learn. If you're playing in hasty and careless way that's your problem.

People aren't perfect and make mistakes. Games (and other systems) that causes simple mistakes to be painful aren't fun and aren't good designs. Sometimes, things can be changed to make things far less painful without much work, and in those cases, I think it is a very good idea to implement them.
For example, buying a recipe you didn't mean to? Well, that can be resold at the auction house at likely around a 10-20% loss. If vendors bought recipes for only 5-10% less than they cost from basil, rather than the 0.1% they currently offer, that would help also.
As for learning a recipe that you didn't mean to learn (could have been a recipe for resell, or for a friend too), being able to "unlearn" it if you haven't crafted with it would help. Or, maybe moving the learning step to the actual crafting step, so that you can't learn a recipe until you actually use it would help.
A lot of good system design is to not let errors happen, rather than force people to be super careful they never make a mistake.
I would be offended if one of the set pieces of the Divine Set had its name changed from Divine Mantle or Divine Veil to anything else just because one or two people click without reading. And yes, there are about five different places on the recipe that would tell you that it's not the one you're looking for. I don't want my game experience dumbed down because of someone else's lack of basic perception (This is not meant to be a personal attack, just an objective and undeniable explanation of the problem).
Everything is childproofed these days and it's making people dumber. You know the saying. Take the warning labels off everything, let the problem solve itself.
Ranzo:If I want a refund that is perfectly understandable for the wrong product
By making a comparison with your situation to a refund for a real-world product, you exposed how invalid your request really is. You bought the wrong game (Divine Mantle), threw away the receipt (ignored the prompt), opened the game (learned the recipe), and then tried to return it to a different store (complained to the forum instead of opening a ticket).
This really is your fault. There's a reason that everyone in this thread is telling you this. I'm sorry you had to learn the hard way with a valuable recipe, but the best thing you can do now is learn from your mistake.

@ wrs1864 :
"Sometimes, things can be changed to make things far less painful without much work,..."
Yup, this can be changed to make it less painful... BY USING YOUR BRAIN...
In other words - pretty much what caseyweederm said. Everything is so easy these days that people are becoming more and more dumb x_x

The reason the divine veil and divine mantle have similar names is that they're part of the same gear set.
There is a backup plan to let you get your money back if you buy the wrong recipe, by reselling that recipe. You managed to goof on the backup plan, too. At some point, someone who repeatedly confirms that something really is what he wanted to do has to be stuck with that decision, even if he later decides it's a mistake. Otherwise, you get too many confirmation windows that just annoy people who aren't in the process of making a mistake. Microsoft figured that out when Vista's incessant "do you really want to run that program?" pop-ups drove people nuts.
Yeah except I haven't made that mistake of mistaking two games sharing the same name before, and Spiral Knights is limited to the wares it has compared to the real world, that means I should had/have more highly likely mistaken products for something else in real life. I have not made any returns in my life just because of mistaking a game's name for something else. Even if I did make mistakes, and the product was opened, some stores do let you return the product even if it's store credit. It's not like I'm trading it "out of spite". Plus this is visual, and the divine name just is kind of easy to mistake for other gear for its words. But if I bought the wrong product in the real world, I wouldn't have opened it likely cause I would look at the cover of the game for example and realized it.
Guys, you're making it seem like Spiral is fool-proof that even a dummy can play. Have you considered that after a long hard days of work, after typing in specific items at the auctions for the lowest unit prices, that the person might be tired, and after all the waiting and such? Cmon dudes, there are so many factors that wear the player down, sometimes the player just doesn't notice what he's doing after he's tired. You can't just pin that on the player's intelligence only.

Here's some recommended reading: http://www.guardian.co.uk/science/punctuated-equilibrium/2011/jun/28/1
Guess the study says we're mostly stupid, pretty %#^&ing funny and elitest. Good for the psychologists. Sounds like you want to envision me as being one of the 60th percentile that's stupid huh? Maybe it's something even deeper than that, but your thoughts are yours. It's funny how you think you can only apply that to me from this topic on that day, when that study just runs on generalities. It's not even a scientific study. Funny thing about statistics....data isn't permanent, and I don't even know their source of data is from.
Dude just shut up already and live with it.........how old are you?
there are probably younger players than you who made mistakes and do u see them crying about it!?
All Honesty......Just Shut Up! Shizz...
I'm only responding to the insults, nothing more. You're the one being immature here. Truth is subjective here when it comes to business situations such as these, there are grey areas.

"...incompetent people will: ...3. fail to recognize the extremity of their inadequacy..."
This.
Yeah this game can really be a pain if you're not careful. Similar issue I have is I bet on something, and I can't get my money back unless someone outbids me, can someone fix that please, it's annoying.
