I liked it.
But it would be better if it were a little bit brighter, and it is too easy to reach enemy flags from the start. Maybe put some cubes, this way the game will start slow, and will be fast at the end.
Lockdown. Opinions?
The Gran Fausts should be simply illegal! Too annoying!
Tier 2 is much more fun and balanced and more things happen! =) I have to ditch my Leviathan and use my Kamarin, but that is really fun! Because it's a slow sword anyways, I almost always use Guardian to protect and reclaim the Control Points closest to our Locker Room. If you plan and prepare when an emeny is walking towards you, you can give out some serious blows with a Kamarin.
In Tier 3 I had 5* sword, gun and armor, and it was still ridiculous.
And why is it almost impossible to use Leviathan's charge attack?
That said, it's still infinitely better than BN and possibly more fun than the Clockworks themselves!
Although I should give you all an eye of shame and tell you to stop playing around and get to this f-ing Core already, we need to get out of this damn planet! =P
Seems the majority of people complain about it after only playing it a few times and getting slaughtered by better people.
I think it is a very good game, just what most people asked for which was objective style PVP that we can use our own gear. The low payout is very good because it will stop people from staying in that the whole day to make money and make them venture into the clockworks and it is a lot cost to play so you can all you want.
I do think we should somehow put a level where full 5 star people can play, because every time I play against T3 people I run into people with 3 star armor and slaughter them with one DA swing in recon. Not that it is bad for me because I can get 8k+ damage every time but I do feel bad about how easy it is.
@Codemister13: I think that's fine. Those people with 3* gear will quickly figure out that they can de-equip their single piece of 4* gear or whatever and drop into T2 play. The way it is set up now, I think it's fine - people who have 5* gear but want to equip a piece of 3* for whatever reason are allowed to do so.
I, for one, intend on trying out the swiftstrike buckler (a 3* shield) in T3 pvp tonight.
@Amp_Italic: Lockdown replaces your shield with a class bonus, so your swiftstrike wouldn't make any difference.
Its great for americans, crap for everyone else most of the time.................
...I actually had a blast in a couple of games last night. Playing Guardian, because I'm a bomber; I found splashing Fiery Atomizers around was useful in catching the occasional cloaked opponent, and my Levi charge was a good way to dispatch people when they weren't moving too fast for me. Actually won both games, which was fun.
I'd like to preface my opinion with the fact that I am a F2P gamer whose sole goal in the month or two I have been playing was to get a Vog Cub Set. Without using money or having an abundance of playtime I purposely went to acquire the "Cookie Cutter" gear so that I could be effective in most situations. I haven't had the time to diversify at all.
My BEST Gear is as follows:
Ascended Calibur
Kilowatt Pulsar
Vog Cub Cap
Vog Cub Coat
Wise Owlite Shield
My experiences:
I played a few games of Lockdown and won only once. In most games I would say that I posted roughly 4k-6k in damage using either a Striker or Guardian. The rest of my team would post 2k or lower and multiple people on the other team would post 6k-8k in damage. Teams I played on seemed to have [crappy] gear and worse tactics, hopefully this was just luck of the draw. After getting smoked particularly badly, I geared down to 2*-3* gear to play in T2 only to be paired up with people using DA's and Vog Cub. Needless to say I withdrew.
Cons:
- The differences between players in terms of gear is grossly magnified. For those of you who say I should dress the part and wear different armor depending... I played against a pair of strikers who I saw use a DA, a 5* Snarby Sword and an Acheron each. As somone who doesn't have any real gear options to speak of, I felt that I was incredily useless, a feeling I never get while playing PvE. Having played a hefty amount of PVP games, mostly in FPS style environments I have always thought that the best PVP games kept equipment on an even keel and made the defined the outcome on skill and teamwork.
- The teams can get quite often imbalanced. I noticed that when you click Play Again, you are quite often paired up with the same people. This type of mechanism promotes groups of Uber Teams getting matched together going through and constantly slaughtering groups of players who are matched together from disatisfied teams. One thing I appreciated about the Blast Network is that it would split teams up often to prevent this type of continuous beatdown.
Pros:
- I think the rock paper scissor mechanic of the classes is done really well. I liked seeing tactics shifting all the time depending on what you were facing in terms of type of gear or class you had and they had (not strength of gear, type of gear). I really liked that dynamic and on a tactical front, Lockdown is a clear winner. Especially over Blast Network PvP. The classes in regards to how the map works is also great, where Strikers are fairly flimsy but are great at capturing points.
Suggestions:
- Remove the Play Again option to prevent teams from being kept together over the course of many games and running rough-shod over competition. I would have two gaming queues for pre-formed teams and completely random teams.
- Normalize weapons and armor and remove the Tier system. All weapons of a certain style should do the same damage (i.e. a Calibur should exactly equivalent to a Leviathan in terms of damage). Players with more money and more time shouldn't be rewarded for being straight-up better than an opponent, they should be rewarded by having many more options at their disposal.
- Different maps and objective styles could be a lot of fun. Currently the maps are based on Team Fortress so why not continue to grab proven ideas? Maps with Attacker/Defender and time-limit or games like Assassination where each team has a "King Player" to defend.
- More hazards per map. Please put in more spikes, or rockets, or thorny patches or even Rockets and Lasers ala IMF. If this makes the maps too laggy... well, forget it obviously, but I think it would really help spice up combat.
Im in love with the class system. kinda hoping they implement these for PVE as well, it would make guild runs of high-tier stuff even COOLER.
and, implement a healer class. it'd be simple, just give them this ability when using the block/action command
on activation, heals party members in an area around you for 1 heart blip per second. drains 1 mana per second. if activation is held for 5 seconds, drains all remaining mana and heals all party members in area for an amount equal to the mana drained.
the healer would have a "mana" bar much like the guardians shield on the top of the screen that will passively regen.
Divisor you are using a pure normal damage weapon, if you want to do more damage you should get a split damage weapon.
This was your own choice.
I'm quite bummed I can't see my Rose Regalia in Lockdown. I was really looking forward to running around with my flourish and regalia gear looking like a Musketeer but lo and behold costume armor isn't visible. I think this is something that should be changed — costume armor should be visible in-game during Lockdown.
Anyone else agree?
@tiennen07:
Uh .. you mean Guardian ? Because that's what Guardians do. Heal players while blocking.
@killaizsik
Yes, but that's exactly what's wrong with this game. Weapons hould be balanced.
I see no point in playing this if I need a Vog Cub Set and Divine Avenger like 95% of players jut to have a chance at all.
Just to have a chance at all? I'm using a Level 6 Barbarous Thorn Blade and an Ash Tail set, YET I still easily top the charts at the end for most damage done and caps/defends. Get better at the game and learn to abuse your class.
Well, yes. That's exactly what I'm saying.
Barbarous Thorn Blade, Divine Avenger and Gran Faust are used by most LD players, for a reason.
Weapons need to be balanced and yet you completely ignore Status Bombs?
Well, for one, I think weapon types should be somewhat restrictive per class. I don't see the "balance" in someone playing as a recon with a gran faust, giving me little to no notice of their nearby position, and then just smacking me down in two hits. The speed skill seems to also be ridiculous; I don't see how fast someone can be with a divine avenger.
Am I the only one that thinks Tier 1 is more fun than Tier 3?
In tier three you get hit twice and die, fights are not fun bombs can block entire passages and control points.
In tier one you can take 4 or more hits bombs take a bit more strategy in placement to block enemy teams, fight are more fun and interesting.
I think life totals need to be higher in tier 3 so we can have actual fights.
Tier 2 or tier 1 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> tier 3
Sad but true

I strongly urge OOO to approach a dedicated healer package with extreme caution. Part of this games attraction to me and likely others is the fast paced action. Already it seems to have the feel of SWORDS > OTHER STUFF.
Do we really want the endless tedium of double pocket healer+GF teams having endless stalemate slugfest at CP's that will just hearken to the playstyle of another *popular MMO* that is going down in flames right now?
I could see maby the introduction of maby a healing bomb or something that has a balanced timer and CT, but it seems to me that introducing "mana pools" would just serve to slag down the action and drag a refreshing new game in the direction of the war of the clones.
you guys skipped the post where a guardian that has a shield up will heal everyone around him? oh, and you can stack them too.
After day two in randoms, some more thoughts.
I think I'm gonna have to re-build a lower tier set and play something other than t3.
T3 isn't end-of-the-world terrible, it's just more often than not one-sided, which can lead to people rage quitting and making it even more one-sided. I think I've been in maybe one or two that haven't been won by 500+ points (on both the winning and losing teams). I'm either unlucky, or this is in fact the trend.
I don't think a healer is necessary, but I think something needs to be done in t3 to make it a bit more tactical and less "two swings, you're dead". If t2 offers a bit more relative health, I may be all for that instead of my current situation.
I don't want an endless loop of balancing fixes (been there in mmos, hated the effect it has on the game/community), but I will say as much as I enjoy guardian bomber for tactics and support, it's much more satisfying playing striker swords. It just has a much cooler feeling of power. I imagine part of this is because of the aforementioned two swings scenario. If that changes, we may see the various combos even out.
I love lockdown. They replaced the shields with a rock - paper - scissors like dynamic of guardian - striker - recon. Once you add weapon attack patterns and different resistances then you have one very interesting game. But just because you have an advantage doesn't mean you will win a battle. There's a great deal of skill still involved, and a skilled person can easily make up for a slight disadvantage. Plus, a team with good teamwork will beat a group of people acting randomly pretty much every single time. Very good indeed. (=
But, I have two complaints.
1) It seems like the game randomly ends. I know it doesn't but it feels that way sometimes. It took me a while to figure out that we are aiming for 500 or 900+ points. I think changing the point display to read XXX/500 or XXX/900 points would be a good idea.
2) Strikers can abuse the camera angle. They can charge in from the bottom of the screen and kill you before you can react. I know that you can abuse the camera angle too, but that's of little comfort when you are trying to take a control point. Worse yet, the other team gets a big warning after you've taken the cp down to neutral. About the only way to avoid the charge-strike is to stealth on the cp and hope they don't figure out where you are when they charge in.
Other tiers could remain but create a new one for people with 5* gear. 4* is about 3 times less effective as 5* so if you dont have any 5* gear or if you haven't bought all trinket slots you will get onehitted all the time. No balance in t3 battles
Okay, so I normally run T3 and have been playing T3 LD, but I bought some 3* gear to play in t2 --- full 3* set. The loadout tab says that this loadout is PvP T2, but Lockdown will not change and insists that I am PvP T3. Joining a game does definitely throw my 3* gear in with Vog/DA people. What gives?
Even if I throw on my old Proto gear, Lockdown insists that I am T3, despite loadouts saying it's PvP T1.
@lemniscate,
Have you trying unmark all your T3 loadouts and make it PvE only? I’ve noticed that as long as you have at least one T3 loadout marked as PvP you will end up in T3 game.
That did the trick, thanks.
Really defeats the purpose of loadouts, though...
My only real problem with Lockdown is heart trinkets.
For such a ridiculously rare item, someone with 2 5* heart trinkets completely unbalances things. I would not be sad to see them banned.
No one has 2 Love Lockets. It's fine, learn 2 play.
@Uuni "No balance in t3 battles" cough thats why tier 2 is a lot better...
Suggestions - Show kills, deaths, and who killed you like they had in BN. Also, striker should get 2 more pips starting health.
Complaints - cant express my hate for facility, it needs to be altered a bit.
Likes - Reaktor is amazing, and got over 11k twice finally within first 24 hours of game time on it.
A very good PvP mode, just like Blast Network. And of course, totally spoilt by lag. Though its not as deadly as in Blast Network, latency seriously compromises the experience of this mini-game. Still waiting for the day management will put in shape real material means for the 3 other communities composing the population of Spiral Knights, respectingly Spanish, German and French.
Ah and sidenote..now MUCH MORE weapons/equipments feel useful and deserve to be crafted, thumbs up to that.
Played fairly extensively in both T3 and T2 (at time of this post, rank ~150 on leaderboards for both).
Surprisingly enjoyed T3 substantially more. Twitchy, high risk high reward combat simply felt better than the drawn out brawls of T2.
Lack of visible health indicators on enemies and the stagger-on-hit mechanic made T2 fights feel very awkward and not very gratifying.
Can easily see why people want T3 damage nerfed. Would personally prefer it remain as is - makes matches much more exciting and adrenal overall. Personal preference, ofc.
That's all.
I don't understand how people can think that DA/GF is too powerful. It's simple to take advantage of the enormous lag between swings. Anybody who uses their second swing in Lockdown is pretty much toast.
The overly powerful weapon IMO is Barbarous Thorn Blade. The lag on that weapon is nearly non-existent, and it STILL kills in two hits (and if you get hit once, you get stunned and get hit again).
What I mean by Lockdown sucks is not the game itself, but the scrubs who play in it.
well iv won a fair share (T2), quite often at the top of dmg list, defends/captures.
I happened to use the right kind of weapons - nightsword, half normal and half shadow - and ofc 90% of the players has 0 shadow def.
Combined with defender ofc.
What does suck is the crown payout - u get 80 per match (200 is the start fee and u get 280 back - so 80 profit), u win 3 matches = 240 cr, lose one and ur -200 almost negates all the wins.
Failures quite often happen cuz of people leaving mid match - please set up a penalty system. Ban lockdown for that player for 30 min (first leave this day), 2h for 2nd leave and 24 hours for 3rd. This way they wont leave as soon as they see that theyr not in the OP team.
Increase CE rev cost (eg 2ce will lower timer by 5s not insta revive).
I want to ask for one thing in Lockdown at the moment.
PLEASE ALLOW COSTUMES!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lockdown is fun, lockdown is great.
But - during european main time - there are next to NO TEAMS AT ALL for guild battle.
It is so extremely frustrating!
Today we had two matches in 4 hours. TWO.
There really needs to be done some change. Of course, OOO cannot make players spawn, but it should be looked into options for playing like... 4vs4... maybe then there is more going on, also in european main time.
US main time unfortunately is far too late during the week, so all the fun matches are not possible for us EU guys.
/whine
How exactly do you get in a T1 (or T2) lockdown match?
I tried to equip only 2 or 3* gear once, and I ended up getting thrashed by Vog-GF-DA-BTB guys... Never tried it again.
Try looking at your Loadout tab.
If the swords icon is crossed(and purple) then it's considered for lockdown/PvP. This means if you have two lockdown loadouts, one for t2 games(2-3* gear) and one with at least one 4+* item, then you'll be thrown into a t3 game. To fix this, just mark the loadout with the 4+* gear for PvE(Click on the swords icon, so that they become green and side by side.).
Also, having at least one 4+* item sends you to a t3 game, regardless of how low your other equipment is.
Does that help a little? I'm not too good at explaining things...
Ok, so Lockdown: It %^& sux.
I mean, i say to a friend; "lets go play lockdown"
We enter, all happy. Then the game starts. Guess what, im ranked tier2 and have 2* gear, but those guys with everything unbelievably powered up are in the same rank as me. What the %^&*?! How does that make sense!?
"oh, you (almost) finished the game, now why dont you play lockdown versus this guy who played 10 hours and has only 2* gear?"
Seriously, i'm immensely dissapointed by this minigame, as long as those tiers are this wacky

Were they using 3* stuff? Cause that's more than possible in T2 lockdown.
T1 - 0-1* Equipment
T2 - 2-3* Equipment
T3 - 4-5* Equipment
Also, some people may have UVs that make their weapons/armor even better or trinkets too.
EDIT: Or at least, I think UVs go into the game, don't they? I'm pretty sure heat levels do, so I don't see why not here.
OI have come back from the dead to tear... Oh! o ooly ****! d=
While this is among the living, I'll say that Lockdown is great. The only problem is that guns are underpowered. Still, it's a blast to play. (=
I like LD but its super hard for me to adapt to being a full on bomber with crap loads of strikers running around, they might be diverse and such but i just cant stand how most of the people in T3 play as them.
It really doesnt seem fair because whenever i play LD the whole other team is using heart trinkets while my team uses base hp can you change it so you have the cho
ice of joining a match where noone uses trinkets and one where they do?
Last night I was in a match where I was the only non-skolver rapier user. 12 person game. I wanted to throw up and fall asleep at the same time.
*Edit - read back a bit on this post.
Quoted from Nick-
"When we first began testing Lockdown we saw everyone sword-spec as a Striker. This changed pretty quickly once everyone learned that diversifying was the key to victory (and not dying in two hits). In time, most players will pick this up as well."
Looks like this took a swing full circle.
but no blueflood guns can be just as good too, you just need skill
now check dis sweet pic of me getting 44k damage with swords only
A lot of fun. Bummed there are no T1 games, I so wanted to play around with low lvl gear. Also annoyed that the go to striker DA combo is still in effect, there needs to be some class evening out gong on for sure. I guess that will come over time.
