Candlestick Keep is a love/hate level. I personally love the level. It's a lot like the original Castlevania on the NES. You can't just plow through the level, or you'll get your health ROCKED! You need to think of it as an actual scary situation. Think carefully. Take your time, before slowly and cautiously making your way through. More than any other level in the game, Candlestick Keep requires patience. And a lot of it.
Dear GMs, Candlestick Keep Levels badly need a revision
See, Grimalkins in narrow corridors (and Candlestick in general) is exactly where that completely worthless MSI which you'll never notice will make you an invincible God.
been doing them all day, only reason i die is because i just want black cats... but still don't like the lvls (damn gremalkins are anoyings as hell)
candlestick keep revision.. the poster name.. mawa...... time to bail!
This thread is a Slag Walker.
Anyway, CSK really doesn't need a revision. Especially not with other enemies (LIKE GREAVERS) being so much worse.
"They are unsurvivable at tier 3, and even tier 2 is extremely difficult."
Nope. I survived Tier 3, and I could do Tier 2 with proto gear
Candlestick Keeps are actually pretty fine in my opinion. The constant threat of that Grimalkin attacking is pretty fun to me. It's more of a challenge than other levels and makes it really unique from others. Though I agree with a few others on the annoyance of narrow dead-ends with one breathing down your neck. The enemy combinations sometimes can actually be pretty tough, especially when a Trojan decides to pop up with a Kat and Howlitzer. That's not at all a bad thing and is actually a welcome challenge for me! Just wish some of the other levels could be so tough...
My biggest problem though is that ridiculously low payout. If it weren't for the Black Kat event going on right now, Candlestick Keep would generally be avoided like the plague because of how little you actually get from them. It's just so meager that most of the time it's just not worth the trouble of going through a level of this difficulty. Then there's the Graveyards that are laughably easy, but give out a stupidly large amount of heat and crowns...
The easiest way I can think of to increase payout without messing with the internal coding a lot is just to increase the amount of treasure rooms generated in the Keeps by a few. They're already pretty risky to go into due to the lack of lights in a lot of them and the chance to spawn enemies in others. Add in more of these risky treasure corners and we're probably set on this level.

I HAVE to try that now, it sounds too awesome.
And relevant to the thread: Silversix, Argent. Mobile, does decent damage, makes CK easy and fun.
"Its too hard! I cant keep up! this sucks. "
Evaluation: Spiral Knights got alot of noobs.
They are harder than your average FSC or clockwork level. It isnt Candlestick fault, everything else is too easy.

"unsurvivable at tier 3"?
the truth is only that for being suck or having a party of suck players. the latter is even worse, nuff said.
Most of my friends and I solo Candlestick T3 without having any trouble. If you're finding it hard to dodge bullets you can try and use Hammer with ASI, I find it extremely useful when dodging bullets and kat bites.
I find dark city harder.
So many enemies so little space.
>We were given weapons and shields, and neither of those tools can be used against the Grimalkins. When someone does try to use them, and fails, they get frustrated.
Sure, they cannot be defeated, but your tools aren't entirely ineffective.
Grimalkins are still affected by knockback, so placing a bomb or shooting a pulsar round at it with good timing will knock it backwards. If you're really fancy you can even shield-bump them. Another fun way of dealing with a Grimalkin blocking your path is using the dash of the Rocket Hammer to propel yourself through it, avoiding all damage and taunt it into an attack causing it to disappear. (This might hurt any Knights foolish enough to be admiring your, er, vitakit.)
