Heavy Pierce Sword; Lances/halberds

I noticed today that heavy swords are lacking one of the damage types, namely piercing.

The mechanics wouldn't be that hard; give it the same swing speed as a troika or sealed type sword, reuse the thrusting animation from the flourish class swords, and make it a lance or something to handwave it. But the bigger question; is this counter-intuitive? Using a Heavy weapon on beasts and fiends certainly seems like it. But we have pierce guns right? I only use my needle in FSC as it is, but I hear knockback + blitz = dead wolver.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

A halberd would be a better weapon than a lance, with a downward slash followed by a forward thrust or two using the mechanics you stated above.

Lances don't just stab.

A lance or pike is still a formidable weapon when slashing, so it's not necessary to have the whole combo stab. A halberd would work too except that certain halberds are much less effective at stabbing than others. Any polearm or poleaxe should suffice. :P

It could be some kind of heavy spear. It would be longer than a user which would make it harder to manouver and when striking with it it would take more time get prepared to move and strike again.

Something like Lancer from Fate had

I was thinking halberd (the most recognised single bladed with spike type Like this) mainly because the damage would be easier to visualise for people who would complain about thing like that.
e.g "duh the scissor blades should be piercing duh..." But yeah, what you said Severage.

Yup, that one.

@Melisan: The halberd you linked to is a halberd that would be able to thrust and slash with, what I called a "Poleaxe". I've seen halberds with no spike on the top though, which would be slash-only weapons. I was just making sure you had the right one. :P

@Asukalan: That spear might work but I was thinking something slightly more "heavy". That looks like a light version of a light spear. Meaning, a rod with metal on the end. Of course, given the size of your little Knight, it couldn't be over-exaggeratedly large. It wouldn't hurt to have a more distinctive spear-tip than the one in the image though.

This forum really does need a quote system.

I didn't see that thread, but

I didn't see that thread, but it's not a bad idea.

I'd have to ask the same question that was already in that thread; why would a spiked bat do pierce damage?

I like the idea of a lance (or halberd) because it'd be something a bit different. The regular pierce swords don't really behave like normal swords, I think the same should be true of a heavier variety. A heavy sword with thrusts instead of swings might take some getting used to, but wouldn't it be fun to use?

Because of the spikes? Same reason a jelly cube would.

@Nicoya

The pictures you posted there don't really have enough spike to justify the piercing dmg to me- basing them off the different jellies (tier wise) would certainly make them spiky enough to qualify.

I like the idea of smacking a gremlin with a bat, but I just like the idea of a lance sort of thing since it's easy to justify, and is a bit more aesthetically pleasing to me :3
