So, there's a lot of weapon that are really good at 5* like the DA, which is worth it. But some others only do slightly more damage, which l dont feel l should spend 800ce on. So, in your opinion, which ones are worth upgrading?
Weapons worth upgading to 5*
Blitz Needle - much higher dmg output than Strike Needle
5* Status Vaporizers - noticeably larger radii than their 4* versions
Barbarous Thorn Blade - more dmg than Dark Thorn Blade, and has a phantom Snarbolax in the charge attack
better effect + better damage: (the ones that I recommends to upgrade first)
DA, volt edge/glacius, all bombs with area damage (2x area than 4* version), any alchemer (more ricochets, more bullet speed)
better damage, nothing special:
every gun except alchemers, troika line, GF, calibur line (well, levi has more unfriendly knock back), flourish/snarble barb line.
Also, I hate combuster/acheron, and I love final flourish.
k, l agree with the first 2, but the btb's snarby chomp is just for aesthetics and the damage isnt that much higher.....is it?
lol didnt see yours
da-√
voltedge/glacius-how much better?
bombs-√
alchemers-convince me
for the second part:
HOW FRIGGIN MUCH FRIGGIN MORE FRIGGIN DAMAGE!?!?!?!!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
AND WTF DO YOUR PERSONAL PREFERENCES HAVE TO DO WITH MY QUESTION?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
basically all brandishes has one more further burst as it upgrades more. It may reach to monster farther behind and give them status effect, when you can't reach them before. and... HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO KNOW AND MEMORIZE ALL DAMAGE ON 4* AND 5*, JUST READ WIKI DUDE
Obviously, very few people bother with 4* weapons, because the people gathering data are people who generally like to optimize. And to optimize, upgrading to 5* is ultra obvious.
If you want some data on 4* ... you'll have to run the tests yourselfs. For most 5* weapons, there is already a ton of data.
Hey, Odinthefather. From your posts in other threads you seem to be a reasonable guy/gal. So why are you flying off the handle and shouting now? Especially in a thread where you're asking for our help? Please keep it civil.
Yes, the wiki is missing a lot of data --- even on 5-star guns, let alone 4-star guns. But keep in mind that we're players just like you. We don't get paid to collect these data; we do it when we have the time and energy.
You could help the process by filling in the damage tables for the 4-star weapons you have. But first please read the Wiki Editors forum, to get an idea of how to proceed.
The silent nightblade. That is probably decent enough. It's stronger then my friends Wild hunting blade, or he cant fight well.
Master Blaster -> Valiance. The most significant transition from 4* to 5* because of knock back. Actually it's totally different weapon when reach rank 5.
The brandishes are good at 5* but not neccessary. My gf has never upgraded her Blizzbrand now since before the buffpatch and I've had mine 5* since well before it, and she keeps on par with me pretty well, altough she uses Vog Cub and I use bomber sets but I also tend to use an E-Slash trinky and she uses none, so I couldn't say HOW relevant that all that is to how large a gap there is. The same also applies to S-Nightblade and my Acheron; she keeps very well on par with me, but with the same gear usages.
/slight derail/
@Merethif:

How so? I don't often use guns, but have been usin' them on my noob and have been playin' with a blaster for my loadout, been wonderin' whether it'd be worth it or not.
sorry i just woke up when posted that
thanx for the replies guys
@Darkbrady
"The most significant transition from 4* to 5* because of knock back"
He said the KB was a difference, then said that it was a totally different gun. I was askin' if there were any other noteworthy changes that made it "a different gun" than just damage and a KB, or if he just meant that it feels/acts like a different gun becasue of those changes.
I'm guessin' the latter by this point; I imagine the damage jump is pretty high too, then?
@Odin:
No idea actually; the charge KBs but afaik, the regular shots don't.
As far as I know. Afaik.
Alchemers are definately worth upgrading. Alchemers are a somewhat charge reliant gun, and the extra ricochet on normal shots is fantastic. 4* charges have 2 ricochets, whereas 5* has 4, two on each side.
Why won't you upgrade for more damage? Why not? Unless you plan on collecting every single weapon/armour, theres no reason not to.
just for a few points of damage. I'd rather have a blizzbrand and a grand flourish than only a FF or only a Glacius. The price is about the same and l dont think that the FF will make up for the damage to blizzbrand does vs undead and contructs
Upgradin' for damage alone isn't huge; costs a pretty steep and if it's just extra damage, you can save a fair chunk of money by trading a few extra swings. 5* tends to be more appealing and worth immediate upgrade if there's some other quirk that makes it more desirable than basically just the weapon you have now, but a bit stronger; especially since it'll lose the +10 heat bonus.
This Sword.
THIS Sword.
Is Awesome.
It Annihilates Lumbers & Zombies, as well as every Type of Monsters in the Game, excluding Fire-Themed ones. Thanks to the Recent Patch, the Charge Attack can Save you from a Risky Situation, by pushing back the Target in Front of you with its Blast Line. If you don't like using Heavy Swords, this is a Great Sword to use, even in Firestorm Citadel.
Fixed that for you.

Valiance is a whole different gun than Master Blaster. One that gets a lot of flak for dealing normal damage, but is vastly underrated.
Other weapons where the 5* is a marked improvement: Vaporizor status bombs, Avenger, Spine Cone line, most armor lines (their innate bonus usually goes from Low to Medium), Barbarous Thorn Shield.
To a lesser extent, the Brandish lines (the charge attack gains extra explosions), Alchemers (more ricochets and more often)
Everything else just tends to get more damage, which in itself is good enough reason to upgrade.
Ah, but you can't make Monsters "Ride the Line" more often than Combuster. Acheron can, but it can't Inflict Statuses.
I have a Boltbrand & Combuster. I prefer Combuster in most Situations, but Boltbrand seems to fit better is some occasions, like a large Mob of Retrodes & Zombies.
To put it simpy, it's only not worth it if you plan on doing for Jelly King the rest of your life. If you're not willing to work to have the best weapons you can have, you don't deserve to use the equipment. 800 CE is just a week of casual playing.
What are you talking about? ALL weapons are worth crafting to 5 stars.
Anyone who doesn't understand this is probably an elitist. Have some variety, man. There's no such thing as a useless 5 star weapon. Those who obsess over damage can't see a weapon's true purpose and utility.
Weapons that might seem useless will get revamped in the future.
I remember Fallout & eek5 told me that Irontech & BAB have been like that since the Preview. I dunno, but if they DO Change it, it would be awesome.
Don't just upgrade to 5* on the assumption that it will get revamped; there's a lot of stuff that should be buffed and hasn't been, such as BAB, while weapons that don't need it are, such as Brandishes. Don't assume the devs' priorities are the same as ours, especially when bombs are overall the most balanced weapon class in the game; BAB is far less important to revamp than, say, gunner armour, thusly not worth upgradin' to 5*.
And "Anyone who doesn't understand this is probably an elitis", afaik, this thread isn't about "pfft, that weapon's a waste of my time to upgrade to 5*" it's a "I can't afford to upgrade this weapon to 5* then find out it's basically the same". He's asking which weapons will give him the most out of his money, since all upgrades cost the same, but not all upgrades will give the same degree of kick-assery. I think it's a valid concern to want to know which of his 4* weapons deserve to be upgraded first. As Caramel said; a week of casual gameplay for one 5* upgrade? That's a lot of time down the drain if you find out the weapon you were after isn't payin' for itself.
I understand what the OP was asking, but I wasn't sure how many weapons he had, as it would have helped us if he posted what his options were so we can't really help him out that much.
And there aren't that many weapons that aren't worth using. Mainly a lot of bombs, a few guns and a sword or two. Yeah, there actually are some weapons that are seriously not worth using, but I assumed OP wasn't using those considering there are too many useful weapons and hardly any useless weapons.
Sorry but this thread isn't going anywhere until OP posts his choices. Otherwise he's asking us what the best weapons in the game are, and that will lead to elitism. It would also help us if he told us his playstyle, enemies he hates, any weak points he has, what armor he uses, etc.
Holy hell, why did this become a double post if I only clicked the post button once?
Lol forum glitches.
I think almost every weapon is worth upgrading to 5*, however, I understand your point about the costs.
Your best bet is to create a range of weapons that cover your needs (one each of pierce, shadow, elemental swords for example) before upgrading any of them to 5*. At that point you don't need more damage attacks, but more damage power would be nice. In fact, I would think you'd rather upgrade ash tail to skolver before upgrading a sword from 4* to 5* because the damage bonus applies to all of the swords instead of just one.
I did this on my account and now I'm starting to build more specialized weapons like a Voltedge when I already have a Combuster.
I'm not asking "what are the best 5* weapons in the game?" I'm asking "is the extra KB/damage/bonus/etc. worth the 800ce?"
This question is just overall for every weapon in the game (though bombs are obvobv)
I already have a range of weapons that cover all the damage types.
As Ren said, you really need to get more specific because the answers do vary depending on the equipment in question. In a general sense, the actual stat boosts are generally pretty underwhelming for the costs. What you're really payin' for is the bonuses, charge attack improvements and any other fancy gimmicks it picks u (pepperbox bullets get larger, valiance gets KB etc).
What you really need to read is this thread which covers your question in more specifics:

which 4* gear do you have?
