I made this thread originally in General Discussion. It received a lot of hate and was promptly sent to the Graveyard. Hopefully this is a better place to post it.

Some of you may have some serious complaints regarding the Crystal Energy system and how much the game Spiral Knights runs off of it. I have found that without purchasing any Crystal Energy or elevator passes with real money, it can take an incredibly long time to get to the end-game in Spiral Knights. (approx. six months of casual gameplay) This would not be a problem if the game introduced new content throughout those six months pretty regularly. However, this is not the case. It takes around 1 or 2 weeks to get to full 3 star equipment. By that time many will have perfected their skill with Spiral Knights and encountered everything in the game on Teir 2 and below. After that, it takes forever to get to full 4 star equipment, and there is absolutely nothing new to do through that entire time. Once you're Teir 3 you're finishing up the mid-game. There's some new content and a few new bosses, but that gets old after a few weeks, too. It then takes an insane amount of time to get to full 5 star equipment. This is not an enjoyable experience and games really shouldn't have to be designed this way. I respect that Spiral Knights was extremely hard to build and that it is free to play, but to be honest a system like that just isn't very fun after the first two weeks.

I have played another game recently that appears to excel in place of Spiral Knights's shortcomings. I recommend it to those who are a bit tired of Spiral Knights and were hoping for something better when they started playing the game. If nothing else, I recommend everyone who reads this post to try it out for a bit to see for themselves how good it is.

I speak of Vindictus, a free to play game with beautiful graphics, a satisfying plot, and amazing boss fights. It's a game very much like Spiral Knights in many ways, and yet completely different in how it implements its features.

Spiral Knights has a top-down 3D hack and slash combat system with a very limited range of items and abilities. The game has two currencies, Crowns and Crystal Energy, which fluctuate trading prices. You do not gain any permanent stats. All your equipment is bought or crafted with crowns and energy and practically worthless materials. There are massive taxes imposed on buying and selling equipment and the crafting system destroys the value of monster drops. The game is run entirely on energy, which is limited to the point of allowing you to play for 10 small dungeons runs a day unless you buy Crystal Energy. Crystal Energy is massively overvalued and can allow you to do more dungeons. People can purchase Crystal Energy using real money in massive amounts. The only input of Crystal Energy into the market is through people paying money for it. This means the entire game is Pay to Win. The in-game speed-trading system is a bidding system, forcing people to bid and bid and bid again and again if they want the lowest prices. The plot is close to non-existent. It is also possible to do arbitrage on the two in-game currencies, due to the trades between them differing by more than 2% in price at any given time. Spiral Knights is free to play.

Vindictus has a 3rd person 3D hack and slash combat system with a wide range of items and abilities. The game has one stable currency. There are permanent stats, skills, and abilities. Equipment can be crafted almost entirely from materials found in the game. There are no taxes imposed on buying and selling equipment and the crafting system creates and maintains value for monster drops. The game has fluid and well-designed quests and plot, which all tie together beautifully. The game is limited by tokens that are refilled around every two days, allowing you to play 8 large dungeons a day. However, the first 10 dungeons do not cost any tokens to play, so you can play them as much as you want. Tokens are not purchasable or trade-able through practically any means. There is a token which is purchasable and trade-able, but it is expensive irl and does not break the game. The in-game speed-trading system is a Marketplace system, allowing people to buy everything for the lowest price at any moment. This eliminates town trading chat almost entirely and makes purchases easy. There is an extensive class system and well-developed end-game content. There is about ten times more content in Vindictus than Spiral Knights overall. This is not an exaggeration in the slightest. There is an item mall which has items that cost money, but practically all of these items are "inner armor" costumes. None of the buy-able items break the game. Vindictus is free to play.

Vindictus can be explored further here and playable here.

Thank you for reading this post and considering a fun alternative.

Also, before you flame about how Nexon created Vindictus which means it must be a horrible game, please note that Valve helped create it and try it out to see how good it really is.

Dude...

Did...did you just post a blatant ad for another MMORPG on the forums of another MMORPG and call it a REPLACEMENT!?

One tip: Stop playing this game. IMO, you dishonour it with your presence, having saying that another game is better and pretty much 'This game isn't bad, but play this instead; it's LOADS better'

Hack and slash this game is not. I won't kill anything in FSC by trying to hack at everything that moves and other. Stop saying that.

And SK can't come up with new content just like that, ideas have to be brought up and developed, not just: Hey, lets make a BULLFIGHT /implement

Massive? 10% isn't a LOT, but it is enough to increase prices a little to discourage buying so people look for their own, which is what I think it's for.

TL;DR: Don't compare. Play it or don't, don't tell people there's a different game they should play other than this. We aren't all you; we don't all think the same way, and I play this game because I want to. If I didn't like something, I wouldn't play it.

Wow.......

Just send this to the graveyard it's obviously going to get flamed also why would you be posting another MMORPG on a forum for another MMORPG? Just stop playing the game if you hate it but please don't post how much you hate it on the forum.

He did. He made one in general but it got flamed, so he graved it and made one here.

Anyway, what are complaining about when you say it takes ages to get endgame?

WHY WOULD I PLAY A GAME BECAUSE I COULD FINISH IT IN 5 MINS!?

The whole quest for endgame is the OBJECTIVE. TRUE you encounter ALMOST everything there is to see after you get to T2, on your way to 4*. But it's NEVER EASY, so you quest for higher gear so the things you face AREN'T such a pain in the rear to fight.

And my objective was to reach the Core when I started. I DID that already, but now I'm scraping up the rest of my gear so I'll be set for anything else that comes my way.

A game isn't dead when there's no new content. Oneshot console games are dead under that definition. Like Starwars trilogy. No sequel to the game, finish it and there's not much else to do. Play it anyway just because.

Pay to win? Dude, narrowminded to the MAX. CA is pay to win, because the best things are purchasable ONLY WITH NX, which has to be obtained by spending money.

SK, EVERYTHING is obtainable (minus a few costume items or other) via ingame currency, all it takes is time.

The graveyarded thread, for

The graveyarded thread, for ease of reading.

As I noted in the last thread, (under a massive veil of words) I'll once again say-

You're comparing apples and oranges, i.e., two things that can't be properly compared side like you are. They are two very different games, so your comparison falls apart. Vindictus can't be a replacement for Spiral Knights, because Vindictus isn't like Spiral Knights.

You're really going about this wrong. You're bringing down one game in its home territory to try and bring up another. Of course you're gonna receive hate. What did you expect?

If you want to discuss another game on this forum (or any other gaming forum that isn't dedicated to that game), make it a positive discussion, not a discussion which is ripe to get you bashed over the head. For example, you could create a general discussion about sharing games you like, and what you think about them. For example, if that thread were made, I'd explain why I like, say, DFO, Rusty Hearts, TF2, L4D2, Osu! etc. and there would be no need to bring down SK in the process.

Also......

Also I'd like to further collaborate by saying that the games are DIFFERENT! Like Buck said they're not the same, Vindictus is not only more violent it's design is different, and it's made by NEXON, that speaks volumes to me, I admit used to play maple story BUT in my defense it was my first MMO and I hadn't discovered SK yet, and just because valve worked on it doesn't mean it's good, Valve may have a good rep with games like portal2 TF2 and half-life2 doesn't mean it can make the game itself good if Nexon is heading it. Anyway if you won't graveyard this I bet the Admins will since I don't think they like other game advertisements on the forum. Please grave this thing, stop flaming SK, and please don't make another thread like this again, I assure you it will have the same results.

Starting this thread up again

Really?

I'm a 3* person, what you might call a noob. I try to play this game completely F2P, and it takes me 3X longer than what I imagine what to be P2P. I'll try out this game you call "better than Spiral Knights". But seriously. REPLACEMENT?!?! It's already a game. For all we know, you might say, "Lets replace RuneScape with Vindictus." This will never happen. As you said, Spiral Knights took a HUGE amount of time to create. The reason why I like this game is 2 things.
1. Too many games that I play are like: Sign up, login, do a whole load of things, top it all up with 10 hrs of your time. Takes about 2-3 days. Then quit. This is probably exactly what OOO goes against. This game takes months F2P. I got my 3* F2P in a month alone. It's slow, it's tough, it's frustrating, but it lasts a gigantic amount of time. Of course, you will quit either game sooner or later, and Spiral Knights is usually later.
2. Cuz OOO updates constantly. It's an active system
In conclusion, let Vindictus be one game, SK be another. If you hate SK, quit.

Well...

Well since somebody already necro-ed it I'm just going to say my opinion. I agree. I don't agree with the whole replacement thing because it doesn't have to be, you can play both. And they are very different. But whatever else he said I agree with. Everything in this game you have to pay to get good. I played for about 2 months and it took me 2 months to get 5* armor. 2 MONTHS!?! When all these people pay and get it on the 1st day! That a load of crap! And that is exactly what drove me away. Getting crowns is hard enough when you have no one to do jelly/vanaduke run with you anyways. Also I can only do like 1 run a day? Thats another load of crap that drove me away. I play for 1 hour and can't even do anything anymore? Now I'm not going to wait another month to get the 5* shield/weapon that I want. It is just bogus. And look at lockdown. It is full of paying players with ASI x10 with skolver, polar and barbarous blade. It would take me 2 months to get that set. Honestly, the system is bad here, CE prices at all time high making it even harder for these free players. I'm only 13 and my parents WILL NOT spend any money on a virtual game that's for sure. This probably goes for a lot of other people too. Making it even harder for them.

two months.

People got longer.

You have expereince, people who go there in a day are nonexistent. You need to play the game. You need heat.

You got lucky, stop complaining.

Infact, you spoiled yourself by rushing to endgame.

Gamers these days have no patientce.

Blame KoA.

Vindictus used to be similar to this game

Except the battle is completely hack and slash, they took out the token/energy system which kept prices from getting as ridiculous as they are now (since I last checked a few days ago), and they added pay to win content in their premium store (highest level items available to any level character if you pay a few bucks to rent the set for a month).

Spiral Knights is not a hack and slash. Vindictus is. Progressing in Spiral Knights is done through better equipment or personal skill. Progressing in Vindictus is based entirely on what skills you rank, all of which will be ranked eventually, and is far more repetitive than Spiral Knights in common fighting; the difference is minuscule until you reach significantly high levels and your defense and damage rates are very heavily reliant on your equipment. Spiral Knights allows players to explore all the playstyles available on a single character. Vindictus has separate classes which only allow two different weapon types, and you can only use one weapon at a time whereas in Spiral Knights you can wear up to four at a time. In Spiral Knights we gain temporary items to use in the Clockworks (vials, pills, etc.), but in Vindictus you have to bring your own supplies either through crafting or purchase.

I can go on for a while but you get the idea.

I am not saying Vindictus is bad. I am saying that Vindictus is far more style exclusive while Spiral Knights lets you use a variety, leveling in Vindictus feels slower while in Spiral Knights you get noticeable changes, and Vindictus is more based on what you have than what you are personally coordinated/skilled enough to do. I have a 57 sword Lann on the west server.
