I have been doing the prestige missions whenever I get what they need and I never see the bar go up when I do them.
I did one that should have gave 40 and the bar was still where it was before I did it. When i did a normal mission that gave 15 the change in the bar was obvious. So ether they don't give out what they should or it dose and the bar doesn't show the change.

I guess prestige and your rank progress bar are two different things. In the top right corner of your missions selection page, you'll see "prestige:475" and "rank:3-2" or whatever your numbers are.
