@Exileddread "The sad thing

@Exileddread

"The sad thing is that people who are riding this train for the first time won't understand what it does to the game."

It's true and it's sad....this DLC isn't the first time a number of older players left while people defended whatever OOO did to cause that. It's comical watching the same OOO defenders switch to being upset with OOO once OOO does something that exceeds their tolerance later on.....only for a new batch of OOO defenders jumping in to protect OOO. And then the cycle repeats.

Everybody's got a tolerance point, and I'm afraid those on-board with OOO right now hasn't reached it yet. But don't worry, I'm sure they'll eventually reach it sooner or later if OOO continues their trend.

@Fehzor

Yeah it does happen every update....but it seems to keep getting worse. Expansion Missions in my opinion is far worse than anything else to date.

tl;dr Get steam, DON'T bind

tl;dr Get steam, DON'T bind spiral knights

mm, I'd recommend you get steam just to have it, but NOT bind with Spiral Knights. If they do anything this year like they did last Christmas, it is worth it...a chance at free games? Yes please. Now if you really do think you'll be tempted to buy stuff, obviously stay far, FAR away (though amazon direct downloads can be just as bad).

It also opens up options for more free game chances outside of steam things like that Christmas coal business. Steamgifts.com allows you to accumulate points based on other people's contributions and you can enter them as single entry lottery tickets for a chance at a game someone is offering (sometimes people fake giveaways but hey what can you do). Your chances are low but since it doesn't cost anything, it doesn't really hurt. I think they want a starting profile value of $50 worth of games, but tbh, I think you can get that from just about any humble indie bundle as the site counts full price, not reduced.

There's also other communities like PlayItForward on Reddit where people regularly host giveaways for games, most often during sales, and you can contribute too to spread the goodwill. The steam holiday sales were great for this, I was even able to giveaway some cheap games there and I never bought any (coal trading was worth some cheap games sometimes).

And that's why I'm saying go ahead and get one now even if you don't use it because if you try to do this and they do more events like last Christmas, you'll have no reputation and just look like a scammer (though I would recommend playing some games, having account age is a start). I was extremely lucky when I managed to get Oblivion when I was new (I later repaid the guy with a game on his wishlist that I could get, Dungeon Defenders). Just don't be a turd and try to trade off something you were given, that's not cool.

Mini rant time?
I do wish more games wouldn't go Steam only because they are cutting off a small portion of their customer base, but I suppose they feel it is an acceptable loss. Sonic Generations was released only in Europe as a boxed set (still requires steam to activate), but everywhere else you could only get it online. There's no point in going into the reasons I can't get stuff online (debit|CC isn't an option, don't ask), I even tried literally throwing my money at my friend(money I shouldn't have been using though) to get him to buy me SG if I overpaid him when it was on sale. But I would've paid full price if they had a boxed version in the store because I could've gotten that with no issues. If you're curious, I did manage to get it in the end but a month later and through Amazon Direct Downloads for "free" but it took a lot of manipulation lol (and yes they require a CC but there's a workaround about that as long as you have the gift card money).
But the fact remains they lost a fast sale for full price in exchange for a two month later sale for 1/3 of the price...good or bad? Not sure.
/rant

Anywho...yeah, consider getting steam anyway. I still don't want to bind my account to there. At most I considered making a steam SK account just for trading but I never acted on it (and it wouldn't help right now as the new account could get the DLC, but not me). But for OTHER games, this stuff is useful.

Only Gripe

My only gripe is i can't sell any of the useless gear. Now before you all get up in arms and say it ain't useless, it is to me. I gots all the things i want to use and don't plan on using any of the new stuff, except the 5* bomb but it would be nice if for my $4 I could get rid of all that CRAP i don't want. It's absolutely ridiculous I HAVE to hold on to all of it and have it crowd up my inventory. Also not being able to sell the Mat? WTF is that? At least with the shadow lairs I can get rid of all that stuff for at least some profit. THAT is the only thing I think is wrong with the new expansion, FORCING us to keep everything when normally we can get rid of it. I get charging us but don't FORCE us to keep stuff we don't want or make any sort of profit off it, that's lame

Negimasonic...have you ever

Negimasonic...have you ever heard of prepaid giftcards? You know, those things that are basically credit cards that you buy from Convenience stores all over? Because they work fine on Steam. The credit card excuse might have worked in the past, but it's been a non-issue for a long time now.

Also, devs love Steam, mainly because it's a truly massive conglomeration of people that will play your stuff. Every F2P game that goes up on it inevitably has some pretty massive server issues for a while because of the sheer number of Steam folks that come by to check it out.

Yes, I have, so many, many

Yes, I have, so many, many times. There's no point in bothering to explain why because it won't make one bit of a difference but the long story short is I can't use those right now. Period. No, but's maybes, if you go here, it's just no.

Besides, at this point, I'm now trying to see exactly how much stuff I can legally buy for free (time) now. Next goal, Skyrim. ETA is about 3 more months, just in time for summer. Unlike Sonic Generations, that can be bought in a store here, but I didn't get it because I wasn't sure if my computer could run it (CYRI isn't very honest when it comes to Intel HD Graphics 3000/laptops) and since that's a steamworks game, there's no way I could return it if it didn't work, so I'd rather get it on someone else's buck. I later learned I likely can, at least on Medium, but Christmas is past anyway. I have other games in the meantime, Spiral Knights being one of them, so I'm in no particular hurry).

Actually the funniest thing is around other places, Steam is awesome and Origin is the evil one... but I think that's all a subset of the fact no one likes any form of DRM no matter how minor it is (and in the case of Origin, Steam was here first). Still, that's another topic entirely.

But none of this is really the main point of my original post, I'm promoting people just get steam just to have it if they can. There's no need to actively use it or bind to Spiral Knights but if you're a PC gamer, even a free PC gamer, there's ways to turn it into more games if the right opportunities arise. Honestly, I only started using it more recently because my online friend was banned from here and I kind of wanted to still play a game with him sometimes.

you know what's

you know what's awesome?

logging off the forums and all the F2P whining....

Logging onto Spiral Knights...

and buying something like the mission expansion. Something that will never end up in their hands. It's hilAAAARIOUS. You know what would be even better? Not logging onto the forums..ever again. Not letting the peer pressure of people with penny-pinching agendas sway you from the dreaded 4 dollar purchase.

Me? I can't stop. I can't look away from this trainwreck to save my life.

Yeah, that's hilarious guys.

Yeah, that's hilarious guys. Stalin would be proud. Look into the deeper concept and not that it simply costs $4. Even a 10 year old could get that sum of money, so I don't see why you're bragging about it.
