So, I had this idea a long time ago, long before accessories were introduced (and now, with accessories, I suppose it could get more complicated...)
I'm into doing stuff with clay. I've made various sculptures for fun, most of which do not move or have only one or two moving parts. I'm also (obviously) into Spiral Knights.
So!
I had this idea to make a clay Spiral Knight figurine - but not just any old figurine! This one would have moving, detachable limbs. That way, its various parts could be switched out for other parts. I could replace the head with a new one, or put the head on a different body, so that different combinations of different pieces of gear could be achieved. If I make the hands right, I can also have the knight holding various weapons and shields.
I planned to make it all work with the help of neodymium (rare earth) magnets and screws to form the joints. I've found a few guides online for doing so, though I haven't had much success yet doing it myself.
Anyway, I shelved this idea a while back, partly because of the previous failed attempts and partly because I had stopped playing Spiral Knights for a while. But now I see that one of my favorite sites, Instructables, has a video game contest, and I thought, "What better time to revisit that project and take another crack at it!"
I've got a little over a month, though the sooner I finish it, the longer it has a chance to get votes. If I have the time, I might even make some scenery for the knight (maybe a mockup of one of the levels - and I could embed a metal sheet or something in the floor so that magnets in the knight's feet stick to it), and maybe a clay spookat or gun puppy or something for decoration.
Anyway, that's my grand plan. If/when I get around to making it, I'll be sure to post links to pictures. As far as what armor and weapons I make first, I suppose it will depend on what is the quickest and easiest to translate to clay. Does anyone have any suggestions on what equipment would be simple and/or coolest to make?
It would be pretty sick to see a Spiral Knight Figurine! If it becomes commercial sometime in the future..........I might just buy one!
