In tier 2, you'll see dusker clones everywhere. Swords swords swords.
In tier 3, you see a much more equal mix of swords, guns, and bombs from competent players. This includes in LD too. I say, if it works, do what you do. People can whine about "spam" and "cowardly" tactics, but if it works, and you enjoy it, then you have every right to it. They have to find out a way to beat it, and let that be their problem, not yours.
And in PvE, being a gunner is awesome. They may not do the most damage, but they're the ones saving the team in a pinch.
I've personally never had much trouble with Polaris Spammers in LD. The shots move so slowly and are really easy to dodge especially if the gunner in question has less than perfect aim and judgement. Besides that, I can pretty much just shield my way up to them with Guardian if they're dumb enough to stay in one place (or dodge if they're not) and smack 'em once or twice with a DA.
