But hybriding gun/sword is no fun... The fun is in the challenge :P

Although what neo said is true. Inability at sword range combat makes circling on a point dangerous.

Hybriding gun/sword is lots

Hybriding gun/sword is lots of fun.

Here's my hybrid build:

Gear: Skolver coat, Shadowsun stetson, 1x E. Trueshot, 1 x Penta heart --> VH swd dmg, VH gun dmg
Weapons: AP (or Sent), FF (helps to have a decent asi), Trollaris, Umbra (or Storm)

Here's where it gets fun against guardians:
Attack with toothpick
Zoom away when they try to counter
Immediately shoot with umbra/storm
When he shields, go in with two attacks or something to mix him up.

And then in general, because you're wearing a gunning hat, half the people don't expect the sword, so they get reallll close to you.

However, I think I'm the only one who runs this from what I've seen. I guess it's neither here nor there.

Though I must say that I don't use it as much in GVG since I either go all gun w/ 2x penta or your typical skolver. The extra HP is for surviving when everyone hits so hard and fast.

Pfff, I have a screenshot of me getting over 12k as a recon gunner. But what neo says does have a grain of truth. You don't want to stay on a point too long if you can help it. Surprise toothpicks are the #1 ruiners of gunners' days in LD, but if they're not a striker or a pretty bad striker you should have no trouble holding your turf.

I'd think a damage bonus for your nova. That thing can cause a lot of damage.
@sypsy Blueflood has a hybrid loadout, with same armour as you, but a hail driver, and triglav, and 2 other weapons. It puts you in a world of hurt if he pulls it off, which he does a lot...I know from experience...

If you have been, thank you for listening

Upgrade your main damage gun

Upgrade your main damage gun to 5*. Otherwise, all you are playing is a source of damage for other players. Be a force to be reckoned with.

That being said, I wouldn't recommend gunning until 5* armour with the bonuses you want.

Ok decision time. I made a Shadowsun slicker for armour as well as a 3* gunsligner hat. For guns I run with blackhawk and shadow driver.

Now im unsure what to upgrade next. Most people would say armour but i was thinking more towards damage or another gun. So should i make my shadow driver an umbra driver and upgrade to 5*? Or should i make a damage trinket for more damage? If your wondering I use shadow driver most of the time.

Thanks

My order given what you have

My order given what you have is:

Umbra
Shadowsun slicker
Tetra-heart trinket (I assume you don't have this yet)
Trueshot trinket (I assume you don't have this yet either)
Upgrade Trueshot trinket to Elite Trueshot trinket (4* to 5*)
Upgrade Tetra-heart trinket to Penta-heart Trinket (4* to 5*) (this only gives 1 extra pip of health over the 4* version, so it's last)

I would be hard pressed to start playing LD until I had at least the shadowsun slicker made and the umbra fully heated to level 10. (Cause your damage will actually be something worthwhile.) And yes, I've never tried, but you could play a whole game using the umbra only... I should try this.

Also, Blackhawk is nice and all, but will you be making a silversix?
It seems redundant to have two shadow guns. I would pair the silversix/argent peacmaker with the umbra so when you fight snarby or other gunners with shadowsun, you can at least use something else. But this is not a deal breaker imo.

What will your other weapons be? I took a look back at the thread and get the feeling that you've probably changed your mind around since you last showed your planned loadout.

Currently I have: Two tetra

Currently I have:
Two tetra heart pendants
A blackhawk
A shadow Driver
A kilowatt Pulsar
A Shadowsun Slicker
A 3* gunslinger hat

So far im continuing with the guns to 5*, but haven't completely decided whether i will have a fourth weapon. If i did im swaying towards a hail driver. As for guns should i make a gigawatt first or umbra?

Umbra first, get it to a lvl

1) Umbra first, get it to a lvl 10 5* first
2) Shadowsun stetson - I would use a different helmet for better armor and hp (preferable a 5* until you make the shadowsun.) Also I don't think you should get used to using gun asi when you ultimately won't have it on your end loadout.
3) Sentenza
4) Storm driver
5) Up to you for 4th slot. Hail or valiance. If you do valiance, you will need at least asi med on it, imo.

Keep the two tetras, all that hp will be helpful since it makes you survive more. I would move the elite trueshot down on the list to when you have at least two 5* guns as you will have vh gun damage, which is good enough. You can decide later on that you would like to do more damage at the expense of less hp, but do it when you are more comfortable at dodging strikers.

Thanks Sypsy (:

I don't think I will get storm driver as i am aiming for Polaris. Most likely I will take hail driver as my 4th weapon choice. Sypsy do you by any chance have any details on damage numbers?

No problem! Polaris is good.

No problem!

Polaris is good. I can't believe I didn't notice you weren't using it when it is very useful.

I don't have any details for damage numbers, sorry.

Recon Gunning: Valiance [part 2]

buuuuuuuuump

So after finally making and leveling up my Nova Driver and taking it to FSC, I came to this stunning realization, since the wiki doesn't provide damage numbers for Nova:

Valiance does almost as much damage as the Nova Driver (judging by its damage to jellies, which are neutral to Nova Driver's damage). I assume that Umbra Driver has the same strength as the Nova Driver, so this means that the Valiance is technically... well, the most strongest gun, balance considered lol (you know, 3 shots, fast bullets, knockback on each hit).

I'm not sure about its damage comparison with Polaris/Supernova though, but all that said, Valance is a hero in close range, where Polaris is kind of... not. Also, its bullets are way faster, so you can actually use it to deal with strikers, who tend to be fighting you inside those guns' range.

Not that this really changes much, but it's a really awesome explanation as to why Valiance is such a friggin portable nuke when Recon Deathmark gets a hold of a target, and being able to fight with two shots at a time really help its single target DPS and mobility a LOT.

@^ I was once told by Dirty Harry that "normal damage" is a bit higher than "neutral" damage from pure weapons.

Neutral /= normal.

on neutral targets, normal

on neutral targets, normal damage weapons will always out-damage specialized damage type equivalent weapons.

on alchemer

@Lukehandkooler
Not sure about this, but I'll take it. Valiance's 3 shots still lets you do [single shot - pause] at a faster rate than alchemers though, so it's kind of got that silversix- style interruption, with a bit more punch and safety to it.

---------

Hey, I'm not sure if anyone's seen this, but I noticed that in close range, my alchemer shots sometimes look like they're bouncing off of me?

ex: I'm circling someone, alchemer shot hits them, ricochets off of me, hits them again.

Am I seeing things here?

Alchemer ricochet

Can anyone confirm/deconfirm if Alchemer shots ricochet off yourself (does no damage to you) in Lockdown?

This could be used for something interesting in close range fights since it means you can technically double-attack with it by having it bounce off yourself.

@seiran

You and your teammates in LD function the same way as you and your team in the clockworks (I.e. intangible to you and your attacks).
So, no.

hm

alright.

It's because I think I've seen that effect happen while strafing other players in close range/shooting at walls, or I'd shoot someone, cloak and start walking around and I'd see the shot bounce off of target, hit me, and hit target again.

It could just be a trick of latency, but I'll try to look into it more later.
