Are you serious? This is a pay-to-win business model video-game... did you really try to drop the "For Free" line?
You might be the most ignorant poster in this entire thread... because (trigger sarcasm) I'm sure they don't make any money off of this game. Especially when one piece of equipment sells for anywhere between $20 to $100+ in CE equivalent (don't believe me? Check the bazaar forums).
Sorry to be abrasive, but the "For Free" argument is not only highly misleading, it's also completely inaccurate.
OOO and Sega make money off of this game (whether or not they make it from you individually), and we deserve quality content in return. This anniversary event was not quality content--not even close.

Well most stuff ARE free, just need patience to get it. This Event is free. I didn't drop a penny for this Event (unfortunately for OOO). So far, F2P exists everywhere but the Expansion. Patience man, patience.
No, it's not free. I'm not sure how else to explain it to you...
Take, for example, League of Legends. A "free" game that has generated millions of USD revenue for Riot Games. Do you think OOO would have been bought out if this game wasn't generating revenue? Do you think companies really voluntarily make free games out of the "goodness" of their heart?
If you can't see beyond your own personal experience (again, I don't know whether you spend money on this game or not), you are being ignorant of the business model. "F2P" or "Free-to-play" is not really free... it hasn't been a free business model for a long time. Anyone who believes otherwise is simply uneducated as to how businesses operate.
Then F2P does not exist. However, they do have some content completely available to Free users, and all content except for Expansion is able to be reached without cash. This event is one of them. Is that better, Kielos?
I wasn't expecting anything big for the anniversary other than an event. The majority of developers simply don't have the resources to churn out big content patches as fast as some players would like. Last month was pretty busy with equipment balancing, changing Greavers, bug fixes, and adjustments to missions.

The only problem with this event though, is that the Frosted helmet looks way too good. There should be like a Permanent Frosted Helmet for 120 cake slices.

Yup, this game is CLEARLY not F2P. I mean, I CLEARLY had to pay money to download this game onto my computer, and I CLEARLY have to pay a monthly subscription fee to be able to constantly play the game. Also, I CLEARLY have to pay real money to buy CE because there is no other way to get CE AT ALL. It's not like the crown currency in-game is used for anything else but to buy horribly overpriced low * equipment from vendors.

A good event idea:
EVERY single monster have a chance to drop CakeCoins
The drop chance gets higher accordingly to the Monster Tier
Theres a NPC that trades equipments for CakeCoins
These could be the prizes that you get by buying 9.95$
You can buy ( with CE) an item that increases the chance of getting CakeCoins, so OOO makes some money out of the event
