RIP Demotastic
Those using any sort of Purely Specialized gear; are using gear to give them "skill".
They are not skilled, infact, they are more nooby then most.
Not only am I famous, but I inspire Hipster...ness... Yeah.

This is what bothers me: It's not that you don't use specialized gear, it's that you hate in people who do.
So you're telling me that if I want to sword, I shouldn't use stuff specialized for swords? You keep advocating for use of stuff people like instead of stuff that would optimized, have you ever thought that MAYBE people WANT to be optimized?
And if you're gonna just automatically assume I use Wolver sets just because I'm unskilled, I will happily kill you over an over again with my Chaos set+Levi
Main point: Stop being such a beeotch and play the damn game. No other hipster on Spiral Knights whines as much as you. In fact, they dont whine at all cuz they knew they were making a sacrifice for their lifestyle. You can't se to get over that though. Not gonna force you to use Wplver, but don't put the unskillful label on all that do. While some might be, a lot aren't.
The whole point of this tread was to rant and complain (GASP!) about the complete and utter failure and unbalance (GASP AGAIN!) of Lockdown.
The fact is, On fair grounds, I can squash most with any number of weapons. But with most games, I feel utterly at loss. The reason? Because players are using specialized gear to GIVE them skill. Is that right? I think not.
No, I'm not saying that a particular player is bad or good per-say, I'm am stating my general dislike and stereotype against Wolvers. For the above reason. Yes, there ARE skilled wolvers, I'm not denying that. But LD is FAR past the point of balance between skill and gear.
I'll take you on in that chaos set, In fallen set, with a DVS. I'll see you in game.
Main Point: I'm AM playing the game, and you need to stop assuming particular things about me. Yes, I kinda chose to be a Hipster, but Crying out against stupid, unfair things is whining? Ok then, Is LD NOT broken? Is it FAIR? No. Its not, and I'm not the kinda to idly sit by. I'm going to raise all hell until it gets fixed. Try to stop me.
Not only am I famous, but I inspire Hipster...ness... Yeah.

I agree, when one particular set is THE set to use, and not the one you pick...it's kind of lame sounding when EVERYONE picks the same thing. More diversity is needed for LD to become interesting. Rapier wielding beasts...sure, but with all of those fancy triple UV's, and now LOCKING ones; ASI, and CTR and damage bonuses. Ugh, why does that set have a damage bonus anyways, and why do the beast type armor have piercing defense? Heavy armor would make more sense with a damage bonus.
When money trumps skill, when there is simply nothing you can do to make the path you chose be a viable one, what do you do? So...direct question, Wolver fiends. What would happen if your set was nerfed? If it didn't have a damage bonus? What if it had a drawback for its bonus, possibly making some other armor more useful in a certain area, like the disused Cobalt or Jelly Mail?
((We totally need Vanilla and 1v1. Who doesn't want 1v1?))
Re giving "skill" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2y8Sx4B2Sk
Skill: the ability, coming from one's knowledge, practice, aptitude, etc., to do something well
Having gear that gives you say, more sword damage has nothing to do with how well you can use said damage, it just gives you more potential to work with.
