I'm sure any one who has played this game for more than an hour has seen the little info tidbit about "Rare Monsters" on load screens.
It says that they roam the Clockworks and drop rare materials, but what exactly are they?
I checked the wiki, but i couldn't find anything, so anyone know what they are?
I have been playing on and off for weeks since launch and not ONCE have I seen those.
They're, well, rare monsters. I've seen Impostocube around three times and Mewkat once in around 100 hours. You can find info [what little there is] in the monster category pages.

I once saw a jelly with a wig and stache... I'm assuming that's a rare monster.
Yup, that's the Impostocube.
You can find rare monsters on the Wiki under "Notable [monster name]s".
Oh cool glad I saw it in person then. Can't believe how rare these things are. I don't think I even got a rare drop or anything from it.
you should at least get a big coin or something, i saw the impostocube twice and i got a gold coin (100 crowns) at least one of those times
worthless if you don't even get rare drops, what's the use in having "rare monsters" if you don't get any good crap from killing them.

The Impostocube is probably the most common, and generally drops a 50cr or 100cr coin, which is nice. I've seen it several times on jelly farms. The MewKat drops a rare hat, and I've never ever seen one.
No idea about the Love Puppy (save for wiki info) and the Soul Jelly. I assume they'll add more rare monsters, but we don't even have a final boss yet :(

A "rare" monster isn't even worth the damn trouble if I don't anything more then "100" coins from it. I want it to actually be WORTH it to kill it.

The thing is, you're not going to any "trouble" to see the rare mob. You either encounter one or you don't.
Mewkat can drop something rare, though.
You guys forgot that the Love Puppy drops a pretty rare item.
A heart pendant that raises your health from 3-5 hearts depending on what drop you got.
I see Love Puppies and Impostocubes quite frequently. Maybe I'm just lucky. ^～^
I think Rock Jellies also counts as a rare monster now. I've only seen one of them since the Preview Event ended. It was hiding as one of those 3-hit blocks and attacked once I started chopping it.
That's because the gates are messed up.
I've been seeing a Mewkat everytime during the Dark City levels.
as far as I know rare monsters are supposed to have a rare item but its seems only one of them is dropping rare items and thats the love puppy
I never came across to see any rare monsters yet. Do they mostly show up around tier 3?
I saw a Jelly with a parted hair-do and a mustache once-- it didn't drop anything interesting, though. A nice gag.
No, they're just really, really rare. I saw most of mine in T2.
I've seen the Wig and Pipe toting Impostocube several times now.
I've lovingly deemed him Father Slime.

It's never a bad thing running into a rare monster so don't complain about them. Aside from rock jelly and impostocube, they are never a real threat (even those two hardly require effort to dispatch). Love pups heal you and mewkats just float around.
Love pups are known to drop very valuable heart trinkets (the 5* locket has gotten offers over 15k ce.) And rumor has it mewkats drop Magikat Hats. All these rare monsters have been known to drop a good amount of coins aswell.

i came across a blue slime in a box in one of the grass themed levels, i killed it almost immediately before realizing i should take a better look (so i saw it for only like a second since i was just hacking away knowing a monster was going to pop out of the box). i know it wasn't rare, but i hadn't seen one before. i am assuming it was a sloom or whatever, pretty sure it wasn't the other rare blue slime (soul jelly?) if it was I'm going to be bummed!
You never see just "one" Soul Jelly, you see at least 3 in the same area.

i've seen the impostocube and when killed he dropped a ton of crowns
I played this game for more than 24h and I only saw 2 impostocubes so I guess they are rare monsters but even so I know that in total there are like more than 3 rare monsters.
