Hi everyone,
After I read in the 10 trivia post about the undiscovered secret in SK, I went looking around in Haven and Ready Room and whatnot, but of course haven't found anything. But another thing puzzled me... the Core.
10. There's lots of secrets in the game, many that we will unveil as we continue to develop the world. However there is one that players see every day that so far as we've seen, no one has ever figured it out. Curious!
I show you two important conversations done at the Core that tells us how we can manage to open it.
Technician
That's easy, keep gathering minerals within the clockworks and powering those gates within the arcade. We need to analyze how mineral power affects the Core. The problem is that very little power reaches down to these depths. We can only gather so much data from each gate as it launches.
Fresh air? Warmth? These depths are not an enviroment that many of us can stand much longer, but the Liutenant insists that we keep at it, that maybe the surge of power from the next gate will provide us with the answer that we need.
Liutenant
We're attempting to find a means to activate the Core through the power of the minerals found within the Clockworks. Those minerals are capable of transforming the Clockworks - we have seen this in the Haven Arcade. It is our belief that we can use that power to activate the Core and… open it somehow.
Now, there are two way to look at this:
The player way
We reached the Core, but the developers have not implemented these levels yet.
The Spiral Knight way
We have been told that it actually easy to find out a way, just using minerals. Minerals are what makes the clockwork go round, and think at this, is just a gigantic puzzle. We have to analyse how these minerals are effecting the clockwork, and we see it when a gate launches.
I wonder if WE have to understand it, as players. It very looks like that these NPC are encouraging us to keep trying.
Also it seems that the solution can just be found at the next gate opening. It doesn't look so far away, maybe we just not doing it right. WE have seen that the minerals are capable of transforming the Clockwork.
I have played SK for quite a while and I never understood why should we be bothered on using minerals to change the levels. I guess most of us just autosell. If that should have been random the game would not need us to drop minerals, clearly that is a puzzle. Also Wegner says that some combinations that aren't tested may have some unexpected effects.
The technician says that a little power reaches the core, so I thought is a matter of how many minerals we deposit. A similar thing was in the beta, check the Core wiki page. He also talks about a power surge. But that has been removed and the arcade is about combinations, and the clockwork is full of cogs that spin one way or the other aligning some levels.
Now I thought maybe we should figure out a combination in the Arcade.
There is a recurring patter tho, there is always an anomaly which locks one of the stage per gate, beast for Snarbolax, slime for Royal Jelly, constructs for Roarmulus and fire for Vanaduke.
I wonder if maybe we have to align all the levels to which anomaly is corresponding. All beast for Snarbolax gate, all slime for Royal Jelly gate and so on. We might see something happening, maybe not. Has this been ever tried before, can we give it a go?
You blow it open, silly.
