Putting in minerals as the first idea was very intuitive and smart, but now we can't put in minerals to change the gates. This kinda wrecks the entire plot, because what are we supposed to do now? Live on cradle forever, not needing to power the gates? It is a possibility that we were supposed to find the answer, but what can we do? Using a bomb such as Nitronome wouldn't work, we can't simply drop it down, neither will any type of weapon, as far as I'm concerned. Also, we need to consider this. There is a small area near the balcony type place in the core depth. It looks identical to the landing pad thing that we use whenever we start a new depth. Perhaps there was a lift there, at one point? Also (this is just random) but there is something that looks just like it in all the clockwork terminals. It's on fire, and is fenced off though. We can assume that the clockworks look like what we saw on the old loading screen, like tunnels and giant gears for depths. If so, there would be more than enough room for 2 lifts. (Also, in the tier 3 clockworks terminal, there are FIVE lifts.) If you think the loading screen things were just gears, why would they be lit up? Also, we don't know how far we travel in a lift, and the animation seems incredibly fast for an elevator, we can assume that we travelled the long distance of the loading screen.
The most likely explanation is that the developers either haven't made the levels yet, (but I dunno, the core has been locked since I joined in 2011 on my main..) or they would like to keep it shrouded in mystery, for players to speculate such as we are now.

Sorry if I'm late OP, but it seems the way to get it involves you acquiring a key from the shadow lair. This key is EXTREMELY rare, and has a 0.0078% chance of appearing. Upon acquiring the key, beat the Roarmulus Twins FOUR times. Defeat the right twin first two times, and then the left first another two times. Once you've done that, you must wait until the extremely rare Turquoise Chessboard dungeon appears. You must then go right down to the core through it, defeating every boss on every floor SOLO. Upon reaching the core, you will then get banned because this stuff doesn't exist and you have most likely modded the game.
Keep shoving all the snipes on the elevators until the core is so full it explodes.
Get to the planet that has overdrive and use overdrive to make a hole large enough to go though.
What if we assembled a team, (or got so good at the game ourselves) that we will be equal or superior to the legendary alpha squad. Then, we all stand there and wait for the shadow things to take us into the core.
What if the core is not closed all on one side? Maybe it is open or weak on another side, but we just assume that the part we see is the only entrance, because it has a hole resembling a door. Haven is the main spiral knight area, sure, but it's TINY. You can walk from one side to the next in 30 seconds. What if there are other places on Cradle that have lifts as well? The gremlins can't have built the entire clockworks on one tiny place, and hope for people to stumble across it. What about what we saw in the new loading screen? There's a suspicious blackish-red area and a giant golden-like compass thing stretching across HALF the ENTIRE PLANET!!! There must be more life, and probably intelligent life in other areas, considering the climate looks mild, and the strangers are advanced life forms, and at least the snipes are birds, not some bacteria. Us humans migrated out of Africa, and after a while settled almost everywhere in the world.
Aside from all that crap, here's a simpler idea. Spiral knights can dash, shield bash, and run without tiring. They have designed the most high-tech weaponry and armour, they even harnessed other ideas/powers and used it in their own technology. We have fought off the strongest beasts, and (it is assumed to have fought off even stronger enemies, such as "Vog? I'm not really sure, maybe its explained in another post, but there are Fang of Vog, and Vog CUB coat, and there are other monster names that have been put into armor and not specified")Yet, no spiral knight can jump, or go off of the platforms. (especially the devilite areas) It possibly can be that our armour is too heavy to jump, but a the wolver coat line looks pretty lightweight, and if we can run indefinitely, we surely have the energy to jump.
A much stranger idea I came up with is that spiral knights are robots, programmed to fight, but the person who made them couldn't expect every battle scenario, so they chose US, and they know about humans, or whatever we're supposed to be, to in a sense, control them like a remote controlled car. Or, they have some mental illness, or a "computer chip?" in their brains that prevents them too. (People in Japan have created devices that can essentially control people's movements using a remote controller.)
After all of this, this is all simply speculation, (or maybe in your opinion a random guy spouting B.S.) I admit this wasn't as detailed as my first post, but I didn't have much evidence at all to back this up. Whatever you think, please consider this.
