Let's see...

This and subsequently this happened last time someone suggested capes. Notice the first thread is in the graveyard. It might be a good idea to graveyard this thread as well.

Stop!

You have violated the law.

Capes have already been addressed and defeated due to lack of content.

"I want capes because durrr."
That is not a real suggestion. Try again.

/sigh

Don't have to be so uncreative, you guys. If you do it, it could look pretty nice, like a commanders cape and shoulder pads. It could make you look authoritative. Someone said we aren't medieval, but we are still knights. As long as the cape doesn't get to long, it wouldn't look weird.

If you have something like this guy has, you could even include Vanaduke's cape! XD (it would be smaller)

Man I don't see why

Man I don't see why everyone's so down on this idea! I'd be well up for some well-designed and sensitively-implemented cape accessories. Don't give me this garbage about them not fitting the aesthetic, these little guys are running around with wings on, and some of them leak floating love hearts from every pore. A decent implementation of a cape could add a lot to some armour sets.

The dynamic animation of the cape would be too complicated to bother working on. Even vana's cape is static.

Hexzyle: Even if I bought

Hexzyle: Even if I bought that line of reasoning - and I don't, recalling that Ian McConville is pretty goddamn good at dynamic cloth meshes, not that they're super complex in the first place - you've kind of undone it yourself by pointing out that Vana's cloak is static. So one immediate solution would be to make player cloaks static. Vana's cloak looks fine and it's enormous. These would be comparatively tiny, and hence easier to render (there's a lot more wiggle room with detail when an article's not all up in the observer's face all the time). Even an animated cape wouldn't have to do very much; perhaps flapping behind player models as they moved, at most.

Asulkalan: That's an implementation issue, not an inherent problem with the idea. There's no reason a back accessory - which is in essence what we're talking about here - would necessarily clip. Armours with potential back clipping issues are, by and large, not armours with back accessory slots in the first place. If it's well-designed (and I trust Three Rings' art department implicitly; the reason I started playing SK in the first place was because I heard Ian McConville was working on it) it could be absolutely fine. Hell, even an amount of clipping would be acceptable; it'd be barely noticeable during gameplay due to the tiny-ass PC models. There are already all sorts of helm/armour/accessory combinations with some minor clipping problems and I haven't exactly seen the forums catch fire complaining about it.

Atrumvindex: Your inability to imagine a thing does not mean that thing cannot exist, but thanks for playing!

This is a pretty decent idea, all told; simple to implement, lots of scope for different versions (think badges as well as colour schemes). Sure they'd look rubbish on certain armours, but I think that goes for the majority of extant accessories; it's not Three Rings' job to make people have taste (I think we've all seen plenty of players who've clearly spent an enormous amount of money on ruining their appearance).

i love this idea.

i already suggested this idea before, and i got shot down. i greatly support this idea, whether it's too complicated or not is for three rings to decide. players can are allowed to support it, three rings can see if its possible. even if some of us have programming or graphical imaging experience, were not the developers. so we don't need to include all the complications of how hard the cape will be to make. we can all make this kinds of suggestions because we are the users of their product, not the ones working their but off to make us happy. i greatly support this idea.

It doesn't take long to determine just how often OOO actually puts their input these threads. So its up to us to point out the obvious flaws in suggestions, regardless of whether or not we're on OOO's payroll. Saying "Wel, yur not OOO!" is not a competant defense to criticism. OOO would never implement a suggestion without heavy player consensus.

"Heavy player consensus"

In other words, giant walls of text which pick every single detail and turn a drop of water into the Mississippi to thoroughly prove it is worth investing time and effort in. Does that sound familiar? No, I am not solely referring to myself; there are several users which do this. If not for their contributions several features would not exist, such as Polyps or the expansion.

evidence.

ill research your evidence of the expansion and polyps. but it does not mean these simple ideas could not turn into a giant wall of text so rejecting their possibility right away is a wrong approach to a players idea.

Incoming transmission from Intel Agent Kora!

Kora: "NO! No capes. You may remember FSC raid #401121, a cape was caught in a flame vent- the poor guy was in full Skelly, too, and this was pre-buff. Or the Wired for Synergy fiasco of 2011, where a cape was pinned to a building and the knight was beaten to death with a Shadow damage computer tower. Then there's the time where a Mender grabbed a knight by the cape while Thwackers proceeded to beat the tar out of him with hammers. And the time a knight ended up with his cape stuck to a Toxilargo's front spike... that really wasn't pretty. Therefore, NO CAPES!"
