Good point.
Old graveyards: Way too easy. No mass spawn.
New graveyards: Too repetitive, too much grind, not enough fun.
So what would make a better mechanic?
Alright. Lets get rid of the timer monster. Or maybe get rid of the timer function -- kill it, and it stays dead. Maybe there are some buried spirits that will behave like that when disturbed, but when dead, stay dead.
Mass spawns are a good touch -- no matter that you're trying to be careful, having 6 graves trigger because you touched that one does make for a moment of fright. But it's still "Recover, move back, kill them."
Hmm...
Well, you normally move into areas, spawn things, kill them, move into the next.
Maybe that's all you can get in a graveyard. Sure, skeletons/zombies/whatever they're called. Some spirits that move diagonally across the void. Sometimes you spawn only the graves you touch, and sometimes you spawn a group of graves at once.
But it would eliminate the rinse and repeat feeling.
It would eliminate the whole "Never mind all the side rooms, all the energy doors, just find the elevator as quick as you can" feel.
So perhaps they dont need removed, they need freshened up with new ideas.
