ive done enough Vana defeats for 3 items from brink, yet i want to perfect my fighting, and ive been on some runs with pros and now i have a few questions...
in first stage, sometimes the slags dont appear, how does that happen?
with the 2nd and 4th stage, should i blitz the head? also does the poison help in this stage?
i like to use poison vials but i dont know how! some pros poison him and Slag guard NEVER appear..HOW?!
pretty much, tell me everything you know on how to defeat Vanaduke, any tips, headups, etc.
would be really appreciated
~Vlad

ps. where should i put this? The Arsenal, New Recruits, leave it on General?

1) no idea, either it's

1) no idea, either it's random or it's a bug. I don't know of any reliable way to make that happen, but I heard poison could (tho as far as I am concerned it may as well be a myth as I didn't test it myself).

2) If you don't have any better weapon, yes you should Blitz the head. A better weapon would be a normal sword, for example Leviathan or Dread Venom Striker. Tho Blitz do a lot of damage and I'm not even sure those weapons will do more damage. But they won't root you in place, and can be used in P1 too, to be more mobile. Poison can help, it have the same effect than with any other mob : slitghly lowered defense, so a little more damage.

3) Well, you poison him just before people unleash a Blitz charge and then do Blitz charge you too. P5 Slags can be taken care off very fast once you are used to them. My favorite strategy is to have the Shivermist be at the right when P5 begins to have both Vana and one slag frozen, while Blitzers are left to insta-kill the left Slag. Then, take care of the frozen one right and procede to destroy Vana.

As for another tip, if you didn't figure already, have one people do water only during P2-P4. Having the mask always watered is far more important than the damage this person could bring. Also, don't be near the mask when the water land on it. You will be bump and set on fire if you do.

.

I would add that once the mask is watered, do not re-water it until after the timer runs out. Works best when only one person waters. Blitz is great for mask damage if you have a good water thrower. Good CTR on the Blitz helps a lot, but can be overcome by good timing by the water tosser. Now that guns have been buffed I don't think even a Max DMG Levi can compete with Blitz mask damage (especially if it is a Max DMG Blitz). DVS used to be the best for Mask damage, but I'm not sure how it stacks up with the Blitz post update (gut says Blitz is most damage). A sword is a good option though if you don't have a good water tosser.

Not sure if OOO considers stopping the Slag Guards from spawning a glitch (seems likely that they would), so I'm not comfortable discussing that one.

You should easily be able to

You should easily be able to defeat the mask with a single watering, but your main damage dealing players have to have at least DMG VH on their blitz (not sure exactly what my friend is running on his blitz). I run DMG Max on my swords and use a FoV.

We can do it with 2, 3, or 4 man parties. In a 2-man party I have to water while my teamate blitzes twice and I FoV once. In 3-4 man parties, I typically FoV once and throw in a couple brandish swings, 1-2 people blitz, and the last guy waters then throws in whatever damage he has. The guy who tosses the water can quickly toss a poison vial before anyone else manages to attack too.

As a rule of thumb, you

As a rule of thumb, you should blitz everything in that fight. Everything.

Seriously, there is no better source of damage.

Well, poison weakens their

Well, poison weakens their attacks and defence if I'm not mistaken so it would be good to use it on him.

Actually, for the first stage and slags not appearing, I've gotten that to somewhat reliably trigger when the entire party is pressed up against the fence closest to Vana. Also, for the later stages, there is like a 5 millisecond window right when Vana just becomes vulnerable where, if you attack him during this time, you'll get his aggro and he wont spawn slags. IDK if OOO patched it yet, but I can occasionally trigger it if I'm lucky with a Blitz charge..

See my thread, "Video

See my thread, "Video request: Solo Vanaduke post resummon patch?":
http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/53818

Shiwen in the first reply posted his videos. Goofio's advice (2nd reply) to run in big circle also helped.

6 days after I started that thread, I solo'ed Vanaduke with a single revive (8th reply). Yesterday I solo'ed Vanaduke without revive, while dragging a corpse around.

Yesterday I didn't even take out the slag guards, I just ran in big circles. Now I am quite confident that I will never get hit by them.

You should try solo too. Solo makes it easier to dodge, really.
