When I was newer to SK, I believed that I would never end up using the weapon recipes that the missions gave you (i.e. the blast bomb and valiance stuff)... how very wrong I was. Also, I didn't realize that you couldn't send recipes bought from the HoH to other people. Sooo when I decided that I'd make a gunslinger alt, I bought all the recipes that I thought I'd ever need for that alt and tried to send them... to make matters even worse, I'd already learned many of the recipes on my main. To this day, they sit there in my inventory...

At my first time with vana I did a 180 ce rev at the 3/6 phase. I actually thought it was the final phase, we gave up afterwards of course.
Also a few weeks ago I accidentally bought a 5 star recipe, I already had. I really wish, the game wouldn't let us buy ones from the HoH, we already have ._.
Or they could just make it, so we can sell the recipes at vendors for at least half of their price... Of course OOO loves to see players waste their cr, so it would make them pay real money.

yep, mistakes hurt
I was about to craft a slash module trinket then got distracted by a conversation in the chat window, hit the craft button, and ended up with a bomb focus module... I forgot to pick the slash module from the list and the bomb focus module is the default selection. aside from the 400ce, what hurt just as much is that I got the mod calibrator from a friend since I prefer to stay out of lockdown, so i had to humbly ask him for another one (i paid for both of course).

This probably wasn't even a fail, but:
Was in Scarlet Fortress, hit a monster box, a wild Sloom appears.
I get the Zee Core, thinking I'm going to be rich, only to find out it's only worth 1k cr.
POW, Slooms are extinct. Zee cores are worth 50k CE. I've already sold mine.

EDIT: a bit more, relating to special damage types.
When I was 3*, I created one sword and one gun for every single damage type, along with normal.
Getting tired of coming across stray jellies with pure piercing damage, I vendored every single special damage gun of mine, and kept my radiant pulsar so that I would always have backup.
Suddenly, Arsenal Stations. Now, if a single level in a stratum has a chance of spitting out a second family, I could just change my gun to the damage that's effective against it, and keep my sword for the main family. Except I've already vendored everything, and have to craft it all again.
To wrap everything up: Updates that I agree with and make sense still end up screwing me over somehow.

Attaching Divine Dragon Wings on Dragon Scale Mail. My thoughts on it was "Well, they're both Dragon, so it'll look good!" At this point, I would gladly give up my DSM, which is my main armor, to be able to move those wings onto another piece of armor. :(
Well, maybe I could just try to find a helmet or some accessories to help balance the wings? That would cost a ton I bet...darn I want to be able to use that Mail for a costume, I don't want to take the wings off, and yet I hate how garish they look! /cry

Attached my Prismatic Dragon Wings to my Proto rather than previewing it
150k for a Normal High Wolver Cap
Total of about 500k deciding on the party hat I wanted for my Skolver cap
50k for determined eyes even though I couldn't even see them
Made a Shivermist Buster, a Voltaic Tempest, and a Venom Veiler only to realize I hate status bombing
120k rolling on my old DA only to vendor it and make a new one
Making a Divine Mantle and Nameless Poncho only to vendor them later
Buying a CTR Med Callahan for 6k CE and then barely using it, reselling for 5kCE (Meaning only making a 1k CE profit)
Trading a Blue Chapeau back during the event for a Blackened Crest because I couldn't do FSC with the shield I had
Vendoring my Firo Driver for quick money to win an accessory I eventually replaced twice
Buying 2 Long Feathers and in the end removing both
This list can go on for a while

Listening to all your punch stories makes me feel worse :c but I think I have the top few punch $$ sinks:
Sealed Sword: rolled over 100 times on (roughly 30kce) got one beast high, no other highs or VHs
Skolver Cap (still rolling): rolled over 40kce worth of double UVs on, still a shock med piercing max
Hammer: omaigod not gonna get started on this one, but spent more ce on this than on sealed...
Snarble barb: 30kce on rolling for asi VH CTR VH, couldn't top asi med CTR VH
Spine cone: 20kce, ended up with CTR med... /sigh
And after all this, I feel like I need to post some punch wins:
Triple-rolled once, got ASI High+CTR High+Beast low on AP
Single-rolled once, got shock max jelly mail

my brother who got no CE (he had just crafted AP) paid 2 mist tanks + all his mist
but we actually did it :D
and that was worth it, because then we got dark retribution (who is AWZOM on RJ)
I think that wasn't a failure but once I paid 20k cr for slime low on leviathan blade
and once very long time ago I bought azure guardian armor/helm recipes... before missions came...
and the worst thing about that is that I actually didn't make them before I got the recipes from missions :/
so I sold them for 500 cr or something to vendor D:

Lockboxes, Punches, & Unneeded expenses
Several Hundred lockboxes with no halo or prisma item O.o
A few mil cr on voltechs with zero ctr or asi vh O.o
There was one time a friend told me he resold a UV item I sold him for triple the profit. Right after being told this, I raged and downed 10kce or so uv rolling fails. Then I find out he was joking the day after.
Then I suppose my ultimate fail is underselling. Something I do way too much when i'm bored O.o..
I wasted Just over 1000 CE while Battling & reviving against Arkus in "The Silent Legion".
Due to annoyance and being stubborn.
