The concept of pets has been discussed to death, several times over.
The closest we have are the animated Pocket accessories that Nonna occasionally sells.
General consensus is that the majority of pet suggestions would be OP, lag-causing, redonkulously expensive and take up a lot of programming time to generate a non-stupid AI. That time could be used on more interesting things that people would want, such as rebalancing equipment, creating new expansions and areas, and fixing bugs.
Your idea is even more OP than most (although it doesn't admittedly include healing), due to the inclusion of 'equip armors and weapons' in your one-sentence description. Say hello to my pet with full Skolver, BTS, Warmaster Rocket Hammer and BTB!

Pets have been suggested and shot down before. They would simply be too powerful. Aumir's Engineer thread suggested something similar with robots, but it has heavy limits that prevent it from being too powerful.
