First of all, may I know why is there no "Gender System?" I mean, every game has it, right?

Second, is that, it's really hard to distinguish either a player is a girl nor a boy, I sometimes get kicked out [party etc.] just by asking the wrong question.

Answers are appreciated.

Players should be free to define their own gender.

Or none, if they so choose. So yeah, downvote from me.

@El-Odio: "Feminist" really, really doesn't mean what you think it does.

Irritating

He said his issue is resolved and yet people keep commenting. Strange. After all it wasn't a suggestion, but a question. /shrug

Feminism:
Feminism is a collection of movements and ideologies aimed at defining, establishing, and defending equal political, economic, and social rights for women. A feminist is "an advocate or supporter of the rights and equality of women".

All characters look like they are male, so yes, a feminist may call the current system on the inequality of that.
Short, I used the word correctly.

If you have a problem with me, just suck it up and don't get on my nerves. You're being childish and annoying.

"Spiral Knights rejects antiquated notions of gender. ;-)"- Hyperion

and then:

"Having only two genders is an antiquated notion; I never said people couldn't fit into one of the two traditional ones ;)"-Hyperion

Which means that there can be additional genders to the two existing ones that most of us know today.... so if they did make a way to tell... that would be interesting. IDK what the third one would be but... kinky.

Furthermore, gender is psychological. If you`re looking for boobs* and whatnot, that's an indicator of sex, not gender.

(If I'm being quoted, anyway.)

Mandatory disclaimer: This is Hyperion the Person, not Hyperion the Representative of Three Rings Design, and this is therefore not an official comment on the likelihood or lack thereof of this suggestion being implemented, nor a commentary on the validity of this suggestion, etc. etc.

We could discuss semantics on what does gender means. But lets agree it'd sound weird if the suggestion read Sex System.

Gender is psychological, but then isn't all of the game psychological? We aren't actually knights, we just like to "play" as knights.... hence MMO-Role-Playing-G... therefor if one did see themselves as a different gender, there would be no reason for them appear in any other way, right? I mean, aside from the fact that if you claim to be something you aren't you're almost sure to be up to something.... although that admits that we're in a game.

I'd still love a character creation screen that went something like-
Sex: M/F/Type 3/etc.
Gender: M/F/Type 3/etc.

-alongside the other "personal colour" and "hat type" things. If I saw that, I'd be thinking something along the lines of "What have I gotten myself into?????"

@Echo-Twothree "half the guys at 8" - "Most of us" ToS much?

Yeah, I tend to refer to sex as "gender" because if I say sex, then people go "omg, he's such a pervert!"

Also, Kozma has...mammaries. Thus, we need more Draped Armor.

It's not supposed to matter, but it does

People treat you vastly differently over the internet based on your gender, especially if they're insecure or young. 90% of strangers assume I am a girl because my color is purple (my favorite color, though I might change it just to avoid this misconception) and because my name is frequently used by girls. Hence, I'd appreciate some way for people to tell that I'm a guy. It doesn't have to necessarily be visual, maybe just something that comes up in text upon inspection.

Ahaha. More activity in the laughterorgan area.

Demotaasd, I actually rarely ever assume anything. I was just toying with Addisond being mistaken for a girl all the time.
And I have no problem with purple, it used to be my favorite color (dark purple that is) for a long time, so don't be so quick to label me, say everyone should be like you and then speak condescendingly to all children.

Also, I'd take a bet and say I'm most likely older than you. Which sorta means you made a fool of yourself right there... Because that means you did exactly what you're complaining about, people assuming things...

im actually quite happy with the whole neutral gender thing, it also makes it easier on the devs (only 1 version of each armour)

though it does make stuff awkward sometimes - i have an alt named teiha -one of my standard (female)character names on most games- that i made to try out the new rescue camp/tutorial/character creation - got way more friend/guild requests when i ran around haven than i did with geregias

Processing Thoughts of You Always

...why would anyone kick you just because you asked whether they were a boy or a girl in real life? The only issue I can see would be if someone kept repeatedly hitting on you, or flirting.
Also I keep getting told in forums that I am a 'him'. This depresses me. I mean, does Aureate sound like a boy's name? I have a Love Puppy as my avatar! It's not that hard to guess!

But really I don't care if there's a gender system or not. Everyone on my friends list either knows, or isn't fussed.

Those boobies and stuff.

We don't need them, I like gender nuetral, when me and my sister shared this account we confused people so much but it would be even worse if the character was male and we kept switching when playing. What we would do is just switch colors about once a month and take turns choosing.

Don't need those boobies and stuff.

Blasted political correctness! The problem is if the title of this thread was changed from "gender system" to "sex system" it might be misleading. I don't want people thinking about having baby proto knights before they're a mature 5 star player.

Robots have no gender.
Our knights are robots.
Our knights do not have genders.

Though that makes you wonder why some armors look a bit more "girly" then neutral.

Also, I am confused. Now when people mention hyperion, I do not think of Hyperion, the game master, but of Hyperion, the large munitions company with a cruel dictator as a leader who has a diamond pony and pumps his daughter full of liquid crystals to control a warrior which he will use to bring order to pandora, which seems impossible with all the deformed psychos, midgets with shotguns, giant laser shooting dogs, monsters made of crystals, and pyromaniacs.

The papaya proves a point

If you guys look at a picture of Desna (leader of the Recon Rangers) its quite obvious that the knights don't have genders. There used to be a banner in the "Home" section, featuring the danger mission "Legion of Almire " (I think). You could see Desna in the background, part of her face missing, and inside was a complex of gears.

I really wish sexes (gender) could be implemented, it'd be cool, and hawt (maybe). It'd be so awesome. Now we know which ones are the girls and which are they boys. Yay. Everybody speaks of us as robots. But hey. That's just the avatar. And robots can be modified right?

The papaya states something

Usually, for something to have a gender it SHOULD be alive. Following the rule of MRSGREN. A living thing has to have the (be able to do) the following:
Movement-Reproduction-Sensitivity-Growth-Respiration-Excretion-Nutrition
Now, since knights are robots they 1.Don't grow, 2.Don't excrete 3.Don't need nutrients to survive (unless you count mist, but then again they can survive just fine without that) and they don't go through cellular respiration. So basically knights aren't alive, so they can't really reproduce. Just like how machines can build other machines but it ain't counted as reproduction.
Then again, this is a video game, laws of physics and stuff don't apply.

But in game it says....

Now, correct me if i'm wrong, but I was reading some of the mission info and intro's (the ones you get by reading it), and one of them (think it was around the snarbolax mission) was talking about how there was good news about the alpha team and you should go tell the other people who were worried about them (which is like everyone) so your character responds "Ok, i'll go tell the other Biotechs". Bio. Techs. Doesn't that mean they're part robot as well as organic? Could they not have used organics for intelligence, but machines to "feed" the biological parts of them with energy?}

eh, w/e the heck i'm saying, this thread is a weird one.

Actually I like it more that

Actually I like it more that the knight are gender neutral. Also due to the fact that you can't really see them up close, they would likely have to exaggerate the gender dimorphism to make it noticeable at a glance. I prefer people try to express their sex through armor like the dresses and breast plate. The fact that the dimorphism comes with the armor sets means that you don't have to "wear" your gender 24/7 and you can always have the chance to change your mind on whether or not you want your knight to look like a boy or a girl. Having a set of sexes would restrict that.

Proof of Sex: Recon Module IMF Proof

It say right 'ere that Parma is a woman. Module:

A Recording from Rulen, Alpha Squad technician:
We narrowly evaded a gremlin trap today. Ambushed on a platform above a pit of molten slag, we had to hold our own against a horde of the snarling beasts as we dodged incoming rocket fire from above. Fun stuff.
Grantz took the full blast of a rocket twice, reacting only with a stagger as if he had discovered a stone in his boot. Sometimes I think that beneath his iron suit is a body of equally heavy iron. It wouldn't surprise me.
Parma has been hard on herself, saying that she should have scouted the trap. But how can you scout that is ever in flux? How can you be sure that the path ahead is still safe if you can never be sure it's still even there?
This is a world designed to confuse its travellers. It wants to trap and destroy them. I'm starting to think it's like a cat, toying with its prey before delivering the final blow.
