The Shield is a lie!

I'd like to hear of experiences from people around the world about their experiences with the shield.

I live in Australia and I for the longest time I didn't know there was a latency meter in the game, because mine was a red box. Obviously I have horrible latency for this game, thus trying to block attacks for me is the opposite of what I should be doing. I can not block an attack in progress, I can't move away from an attack in progress. If a zombie is any where in their attack animation, its going to hit me.

So I was wondering, those of you with low latency are you able to snap block attacks? If a zombies in the middle of an attack can you toss up your shield and block it? Those of you who do live in Australia and all the other places "overseas" to America, do you experience this issue too?

Am I alone in this role reversal that blocking = death?

I live in Australia, and

I live in Australia, and though i cannot reaction block most attacks at all, i still find the shield very useful.
When surrounded by enemies, or attempting to close the distance on gun puppies, it can still protect me.
But still, the latency really is VERY painful with blocking, you will have to learn to live with it.

On a reasonably decent

On a reasonably decent connection (two orange blocks) snap-blocking is definitely possible, I do it all the time.

I heard that people in Australia have the most problems with bad connections. I'm living in Europe and while I can't boast of having the luxury of a constant three connection blocks, the game is perfectly playable as long as your meter indicates at least two.

Yeah, I have huge problems

Yeah, I have huge problems with shielding as well. It's kind of annoying but there's nothing much we can do except hope the servers are upgraded ASAP.

@Awesomest

@Awesomest: upgraded servers don't magically make your connection better. You live on the other side of the world of where those servers are, your information travels very far (and back). It's not strange to have latency. One solution would be for OOO to put game servers in your country/continent. I'm not sure if you'd be able to form a party with people from other countries while playing on such a server though. My knowledge doesn't extend that far. :)

Yeah, I'm from Australia

Yeah, I'm from Australia myself and my latency meter has always been at the lowest possible. I've just had to learn how many attacks I can get in before the mob will attack. Eg. With a jelly cube I can constantly attack them because I can finish my combo and stun-lock them whereas with lichens and zombies I've learnt that I have to shield after 2 attacks to avoid being hit.

Gun puppy bullets and the Kats which shoot bullets are the worst thought, because even if the graphic shows me dodging the bullet, more often than not I will take damage due to latency. =(

Hoping that SK gets a large enough player base to warrant a server here.

I have no problems with anything in this game besides one type of enemy..
I can never ever reactionblock when the small devils throw stuff at me..

I can block gunpuppies, gremlins, zombies, U name it.. but the devils are totaly unblockable.. And I live in Sweden..

Carelessness does happen indeed. ;) Because of that post I assumed you're usually picking your words carefully. Assumptions are deadly, I know, my bad. I appreciate your efforts. :)

The devils

The devil projectiles are very fast. You are better off just pressing shield the moment they flash red instead of waiting for them to throw.

Unfortunately, playing with

Unfortunately, playing with 250-300 ping means most attacks are not 'snap-blockable'. I've had to pretty much learn how each mob reacts based on vicinity or how each mobs animation looks like prior to their attack so that I can predict when I should have my block up. And if you guys think multiple gun puppies firing at you is bad, try doing it with 300 ping.

Vanaduke is also a pain to do with high ping. You have less reaction time to get out of cave-ins and mask phase will make you cringe.

I live in Taiwan, and latency

I live in Taiwan, and latency determines my usefulness in a party.

Around Red O'clock, I'll be taking dirt naps. On Orange (otherwise known as Happy Hour) I'll be dodging Gun Puppy blasts like a pro, slicing Lumbers into intricate woodcarvings, and generally being amazing.

There's no real way that OOO

There's no real way that OOO can improve their connection to Australia unless a new intercontinental line is established between Oceania and North America using something faster than satellites. But you'd have about as much luck as building a bridge between the two continents.
