FOURTH WEAPON CATEGORY

Ok guys, I've thought long and hard on what kind of weapon installment could occupy that fourth slot in your inventory without repeating a weapon type! I have found the FANTASTIC solution.

I think their should be an automation category of weapons, for example: the derlelict mecha knight, this knight could be one of the many deployable stationary or mobile turrets! You could have them vary from sword combat to guns to even bombs if you'd like based on the line that your crafting. Their damage tables would be slightly lower then the standard weapons themeselves however. as well as having about 1.25 times the charge time of a bomb to deploy an automation.

To further balance the automations, they could make it so you are entirly stationary while charging and deploying the automation, The automations could be run on a timelimit or health limit, again that could vary on the line that your crafting!! this would also allow a huuuuge range for expansion of armors and trinkets and even shields! ( <3 shields )

Benefits:

Soloing isn't such a drag anymore!

Entirly new armor and weapon lines, range from all damage types and weapon types.

Brings an entirly new strategy to LockDown as well as opening the possibllity for another PVP game type, (something like BN were u can only use automations)

Automations could be set to follow in game commands of their knight, such as follow, attack, defend, and wait!

Cons:

Some levels may become extremely easy.

it may take a long time for automations to be properly balanced with the rest of the spiral knights equipment.

People Complaining in pvp

May be considered a "bombing" characteristic so that it is just added into the bombing lines rather then recieving its own distinction.

P.S.

I wrote this in about 5 minutes. let me know what you think!!! lets try and get something like this going I think it'd add a whole new depth to the game!!!!!!

Gileadx, Saint-Delmon, Hideousfox

long live Origin End!!

You. Get out.

Silly me. I thought there were already four weapon types, shadow, piercing, elemental, and normal.

This sounds an aweful lot

This sounds an aweful lot like pets.

I do recall however, there being a better thread with much more complete info covering a new class called "mechanics" or "engineers" or something like that. It died, eventually. I'm sure the Devs have read it, although I'd probably need a link to it so this guy can too.

Ohhh, +1 but hey~

You have quite a likeable idea that reminds me of something I suggested a while ago, you may like to check that out because it is fairly similar.

And I mean a lot~

"Automation" or "Pets" or whatever you call them all share the same flaw: you prepare them before a battle, lead them to monsters then hide in a corner like a coward while they soak up damage and kill everything for you. Zero challange or skill involved.

It doesnt matter if you have to charge it slwoly and you cant move while doing it. If you're smart, you'll knwo to chareg them right at the ebggining ebfore monsters spawns :P

Even if you dont hide and decide to team-up and fight back to back with your robot, you essentially double up your damage potential against poor weak monsters.

In LD for example you could let them kill while you hide behind barriers or just recon cloak or run away with striker...
In contrast, computers dont have eyes (see rock jellies, mecha kits in OCH) so recons will lose against them wich is unfair.

Also what happens if you equip 4 of them, then multiply it by 4 on a full party (or 12 in LD!)? Chaos, dumbastic chaos.

@Juances

And then it is when you could have a limit on summoned mechs at the same time, or make the "signal distance limit" smaller, having Mechaknight types being close-quarters bodyguards, and turrets have low HP.

If well-balanced, where is the problem? Also lag issues are non-existant, being themselves monsters/NPCs they don't "synchro" with the server unless they are "active control" types. I dunno if I explain myself well.

And dumbastic chaos in Lockdown I think it would be awesome: Turrets, bodyguards, small mechs that may uncover Recons or hold to Strikers not letting them dash or messing with Guardian shields...

Turrets don't fit with either

Turrets don't fit with either the flow of the game, nor how Lockdown works.

First of all, with the way players progress through a level, it becomes a chore for a player to deploy, and retrieve a turret, which, for obvious balance issues, probably isn't going to be instant for either action. Save for a boss fight or a closed area, turrets aren't going to be useful, due to players having to move quickly and fluidly through a level. EVEN in boss scenarios, the strategy you have to use to attack the boss doesn't really fit in for useful use of a turret.

Second, Lockdown's already an unbalanced heap of mess, so throwing in a stationary, or god help us, a MOBILE turret would serve only as a frustration. Yeah, you'd be adding a "new strategy" to Lockdown, but it's a horribly irritating one at that.

Your heart's in the right place, but it just doesn't fit into SK.

@artistbma you listed damage

@artistbma you listed damage types, not weapons types. There are 4 damage types, 3 weapon types. Make sure you're right before you be a jerk.

I don't really see a problem per say with some type of specialized mech a knight, but only if its limited to one. I'm not a huge fan of it though, seems to go against the spirit of the game.

I agree about torrents though. It just doesn't fit with the flow of the game.

Good points

I agree that LD is pretty unbalanced and it would obviously add further issues with that.

the points about turrets not fitting the flow of the game does stick out much more with the stationary idea.

but like I said it was a entirly spur of the moment writting which I did no prior research on! thanks for informing me that there were previous mentions of such stuff. More then likly I'll try and see if there is a more seamless way to have a fourth weapon type, that being said I still think automations or pets whatever they would be called could have potential if properly oriented into the game.

However I'm sure Three Rings has done plenty of pondering over various things like this so I'm sure I'm doing nothing new under the sun : )

Thanks for your comments all! I'll be sure to check out links and do a little more research on a possible fourth weapon type.

How about we bring this idea

How about we bring this idea a bit closer to reality and less about some huge mechanics changing system by deploying it in the method of Vials? Vials have always been those "go to" items with limited uses that give you a little edge in battle.

Of course, we have the Mecha-Knight vials, but perhaps we could have those turrets as deployable also? Seeing as the model is fairly unused (only appearing in NightRC, OCH and that one jelly place) it would be a nice way to brush the dust off it. Maybe even add a bit of variation to mecha-knights: have some with guns, and some with bombs.

This way it wouldn't affect lockdown whatsoever, wouldn't be enourmously game changing or difficult to code, wouldn't cause balance issues because it's only limited use, it simply uses some stuff that we already have in game.
