I've had server sided lag. I don't really care. I see I lost money equivalent about it.
Obviously the sollution to everything is a promotional event (like a weekend of 5 energy elevators) to get more new players while also mentioning it's a compensation for lost energy due to lag, with a reminder that server quality went up and it won't happen again. (though it probably will rarely)
Of course they should do that primary to get new players so it should be held at a strategically wise moment. (like not now because the game is new anyway and some more unique stages would be great)
Networking is fickle. Even if you have the bestest hardware and the bestest internet connection and the bestest ISP, it only takes one router between you and the Spiral Knights servers keeling over to cause you to walk into a flamethrower blast. And there are bunches of those not owned by your ISP and not owned by Spiral Knights' ISP.
Spiral Knights could mitigate lag by (a) owning their own datacenters, (b) complete with many, many racks for redundancy, (c) getting some serious cable for the datacenters, and (d) renting to a really awesome DNS provider that promises something like six 9's (99.9999%) uptime over a year. But all that costs enormous amounts of money, the kind that can be afforded by Microsoft and Google but not by Blizzard or SEGA, and definitely not by Three Rings. They'd need a much larger audience by at least an order of magnitude (earlier I saw about 500 population in the four gates, and over ten Haven instances) with most to all members paying more than $10 a month.
There's, well, almost no practical way to guarantee perfect uptime or even four 9's (dare I say it... even two 9's), and most of that's not going to be Spiral Knights' fault. There's a reason why lag is part of every online game.
So asking for something that Spiral Knights can't provide, and then demanding compensation anyways, and even demanding extra bowing and scraping anyways... you can ask it of a blue chip company, I suppose, if you were paying exorbitant rates per month because even economy of scale can't prevent this thing for being costly for even them... but of SK? Really?
In a nutshell, that's why this kind of request in this kind of context seems rather entitled. But that's just my opinion....
