the world of sk is dying to lags

I noticed something. At the first hours of the day, there is nearly no lagging, but just when afternoon-midnight the lag becomes a beast hunting players.
I guess that means it is not a problem from us, it is server-sided, isn't ? If OOO servers can't handle a big amount of players then why don't you make more servers ? Don't tell me that you don't have enough money D: I am sure the millions of cash that people spent are still there. Not enough people ? Recruit more workers, this game is growing large OOO, you made this game awesome, please bring more workers >_>

And I tried your troubleshooting Boggy, didn't work :(

I tried every single solution but still i get uber lag whenever i enter haven,Gh,mission even loading took 10min to finish loading.
So i end up throwing my laptop outside from the window and it crash and broken(real thing not joking) >.>" and went to bought a new laptop and think the lag was because of my five year old laptop but now i own a new laptop which can handle lot's of game without problem but still i lag very badly in Sk.
I think it's my location which caused the problem :P,i live in singapore and i think it's what cause the lag.

._.
(throws off his wrench)
helios, this isn't a joke. if yer company really cares that means they would have do something about it now. look at us here, we're all been trying solutions and if any of yer shotgun approach or mines don't work, we're all out of the question. just think about it?

Wish I knew in networking or coding so I can give OOO more helpful information :/

I updated my java, and removed the old versions, and now my game runs incredibly smoothly. I still get temp-disconnects and stuff, but that's due to my internet set-up.

Sometimes i get lag spikes, but oh wells, what can we do.
It's just that specific time of the day, probably around 12pm GMT?
Maybe a surge of players? Server overloads and cannot handle too many players at the same time. It is coming to the holiday season anyway, so there is sure to be a lot more players.
Suggestion? Add an Asian/Australian Server :3

Take advise from a stranger on the internet about how to fix your internet connection.
I am not lagging with most setting you asked people to turn down. Running 2X Steam at the same time with the same setting (although Steam cloud = bad news so I always turn it off) running the same game
There are multiple way to upgrade your computer capacity but upgrading your connection to a server is beyond most user knowledge and (most of the times) has nothing to do with your computer personally.
Edit: Turn down your resolution of the game and texture to a minimum and if you still lag then put it back to where it was and if you see no difference. The problem is not on your end. It's a quick go-to method

@nykza
Well, good to see your graphical lag gone
Servers are situated in Virginia, USA and Ireland. So you would obviously experience internet lags.

I never used to get much lag (usually only when other people around downloaded stuff) always getting 3 bars of signal, but yeah, after the guild hall update it's been rare when i am not rubberbanding around the map half the time even at the connection signal never drop bellow 3 bars... it is specially annoying on Blast Network and Lockdown.
I know it's not a computer or a problem with my connection, all the other online games i play give me no more lag then usual or jump around like crazy.
And by the way, i am running the game on low quality and in as low resolution as possible.

i have a 4 bar connection liek this http://www.speedtest.net/result/2359806298.png .....why am i getting lag of any kind!?

You pinged the wrong server.
If anyone needs help "delagging" send me a message ingame(preferably as mail).

Welp, I guess Three Rings will have to send out the Internet Pixies so they can shine their wand on the routers for players with a crappy internet connection.

Hang on, performance errors ARE caused by crap computers. Some people (I won't name them) are raging because it's an excuse that their computer is too crap to handle things, but this is honestly something they can't do. If you look at many many many other games out there, you need a good computer to run them too. If your computer can't handle SK, that's saying something because SK isn't that big of a game. If SK can't run properly even at the lowest settings, reconsider gaming at all on that computer until you upgrade it. It's likely too low end for any 3D games out there.
If you must play on that computer without upgrading, I VERY VERY strongly recommend you either switch to or get a dual boot setup for Linux. (A free OS. Careful installing it though. Messing up can ruin a computer or its data.) A proper Linux setup can run at least 50% faster then your fresh Windows installation, and that will likely remedy some of the problems. This also fixes the patching issues. I have patched on my XP computer and waited about 2 hours for it to finish, while on Linux it takes 1-2 minutes.

Autofire, I don't know if you read all the comments but... Most of us here have high-end computers, stop ( Not you, I mean others and OOO ) blaming our computers, there is a big big problem out there. And by the way, I run SK on low settings and still lag, although I can run Shogun 2 Total War on Ultra settings...
Anyways, I hope that the silence from OOO means that they began to "try" finding or fixing the problem...I really hope...

It has been stated numerous times that even low end computers can play completely fine except for some fps drops.
My computer runs:
Windows 7 home premium
3GB RAM
Single core 2.2GHz
Mobile Intel 4 series express chipset (which isn't even a GPU) with expired drivers (using OEM drivers)
It rarely lags.
I keep my computer clear of unnecessary stuff and do a few optimizations every month or so.
I have tested the client version and the steam version and they give about the same results(though I did change some settings around on steam).
I think we should blame scientist for not making "lightyear cable" i mean yeah optic fiber is awsome but in long distance it still take time to reach, since lightyear is longer then the diameter of earth maybe the only 1 bar connection player is your neighbor galaxy (lol)

Here are my thoughts exactly!
If you have GRAPHICAL LAG
First of First! Check this Link
Does your system meet the requirements!
Well too bad! Get a better computer/upgrade your computer!
If it does and still lags. Turn down your graphical settings. Set your quality to lowest, turn on compatibility mode, set anti-aliasing to minimum.
If you have Internet Lag
Too bad! Servers are located in Virginia USA and Ireland. Live closer and you get better ping. Live further and you get worse. It's just how it is.
On second note, internet lag can be caused by excessive amount of "gates" or checkpoints. Servers in between the SK server and your home computer.
===Case Closed===

Is anybody else that is experiencing higher than normal latency being routed through telia.net backbone? Try a tracert to 184.73.171.156 and look at the hostnames. (Ignore the timeouts, not all hosts in the route respond to ping). You should see a few hops that look similar to this:
8 33 ms 34 ms 35 ms ash-bb1-link.telia.net [80.239.132.177]
9 107 ms 108 ms 109 ms vadata-ic-157233-ash-bb1.c.telia.net [62.115.9.70]
I suspect there could be a change in the routing tables of some providers or a congested node somewhere.

Pack yer things and move to other foreign countries, the farther the better. I don't give two damns about what ye just suggested because ye have zero understandings how are we facing this problem. Even Bacon-Strip or Xxdragneel themselves from United States can face the same problem?
This is NOT about computers. Seriously. If the topic of the thread means that, then I'll put it on a proper way to make ye guys understand more what is this variation of 'lag'.
@Everblunt
Looks suspicious.

Not much point of this thread when everyone reasonable here explains everything to people but they ignore it and blame it on the servers. It's like, you don't even try to understand how stuff works and expect, like Cobalt said, for OOO to send Internet Pixies.

On second note, internet lag can be caused by excessive amount of "gates" or checkpoints. Servers in between the SK server and your home computer.
^ Depends on where you live, this can cause jitter or packet loss that affects the game by disconnecting you from the server. Till a new request is sent, your knight may be in danger
I have another theory for lag. More high pingers are coming into the server, and this demands the server to work more, due to long distance requests. It might be possible, but i'm not sure.
I don't mean to scold you but, I'm just saying we should get used to the lag if you lived further away from the server. I'm having 1 second delays in my attacks but I got used to it

"I'm just saying we should get used to the lag if you lived further away from the server. I'm having 1 second delays in my attacks but I got used to it"
I'm not new here, dude.
I also had explained the same thing to players, whether new or not. But it isn't the truly thing we are concerned about, and 'dealing with it' doesn't apply to it anymore.
The lag spiking, was meant to say that the players can blink out of the map, or unexpected character pinpointing position (e.g. a sudden quicker appearance/warped nearby into target's area). Yes, ye have pointed one out of this:
"this can cause jitter or packet loss that affects the game by disconnecting you from the server."
This was by seconds, about 2 to 5 seconds. Not minutes. We had that kind of 'minute' as in many, that kind of unresponsive server for about 10 minutes, less or more, before. It was resolved by certain of released patch notes, when was it, we forgotten. That's all I remember. Any player in PVP or a lumber can easily knock ye down with those respond times in terms of seconds between 2 to 5, and ye tell us to deal with it... I don't think it applies anymore.
"More high pingers are coming into the server, and this demands the server to work more, due to long distance requests. It might be possible, but i'm not sure."
If that was true, Three Rings should have assigned us to either merge, create a impossible request of making a new server with shorter distance to us (it happened on gamecyber.net, however we don't treat it as we would want to go for it), or ban our IP addresses, never heard from us again. Thus, this problem has also applied nearby locations of users using the network.
I stand corrected, still. I demand a fix for everyone in this world. If Three Rings don't wanna create a server located near to us, that's fine. But yer own locals needs to be 100% taken care.

First of all, I am not from the US Boggy :P I am near Eastern Europe ( Actually Southwest of Asia, known as Middle East. )
************
@Zaffy-Laffy :
We already know that the distance plays a big role in latency, but the point here ( Which you missed probably ) is that even people near the servers are lagging badly. And if more high-pingers are coming to the game, why don't OOO make more servers ? You will say : They won't, it is very expensive. If that so, why people are paying for the game ? Don't they pay to have a good experience ? Don't they do that to see the game improve more and more ? Ok, if OOO doesn't have the ability to make new servers, why don't they care for the servers which are available currently like Boggy said ?
And I am getting sick of saying : Get used it, you have to. I may accept that in case the delays was no more than a second, but what shall I do when the T2 monsters kill me easily just because I had "A cute delay which I can get used to". I would like to ask you something, have you ever experienced telerporting and jumping all over the map ? I think no. It is really TORTURING, trust me, you will get really mad when a simple mission make you spend 10 mist or even 30 for revives. Or LD...Ohhh the LD... I can't land a correct hit once! It is really annoying, the game is unenjoyable anymore.
We demand a fix because OOO isn't taking care of its servers ( Or something is happening and neither us or OOO knows anything about it ). We lagged before, but not like now, it increased much more, and we still don't know the real reason although most of are sure 100% that it is not a problem in their computers or internet. So the biggest suspect here is the server, otherwise what should it be ?

Okay then, I am aware that this is a case of packet losses from the server itself.
I will apologize for my misunderstandings, and sympathize with you all.
with 10+ spects, is unplayable, all I see is ghost all over the map.. somehting that don't happen in randoms (because of spects)
At least LD should get spectator mode off.

@Zaffy-Laffy :
Nothing to be sorry for, although sympathizing is welcomeable :P
We were just trying to show you our point :)

latency spikes
teleports
hax range
random "enderman effects"
Fps of 20 ish or less (my computer sucks, but steam sucks more)
screen freeze (probably computer, but had no problem before steam)

I think I began to understand what is happening...
First of all, IT IS server sided.
Secondly, I said that before but I am 90% sure about it now, the massive lag is only when there are many players playing the game. Why did I deduce that ? Because at the early morning and late night ( In my timezone which is near to EU ) the lag is much less than it is on Late morning and afternoon. I don't actually know how this should be fixed, but from my humble knowledge I think more servers will solve the problem ?
Atleast I know why some of us are lagging now..
Cheeeers~~

This is why I called people for double checks for whoever is stealing yer connectivity. Make sure give him 100% fatality. If he's an SK player too, try to be nice and ask for a lockdown match, and and and... uhhhhh I better not make things get escalated so quickly. 0.0
*ahem* Yeah, someone might. It is best to double check and boot off anyone who is using yer bandwidth.
@Xxdragneel
Like I said, whether Three Rings wants to help or not, they still needs to put their locals in 100% care. New servers are optional, unless they have no choice but the only way to.

The Lag slowly goes into your knight and corrupts it... Then the lag will screw up all the knight's senses so its basically a flashbang! Beware the lag is invisible and impossible to kill...lol

I'm still not entirely convinced. Before this thread was started, I always had 4 bars and could play 5 solid hours of BN without any lag of any kind. Now I get 20-60 second spikes which are fatal at any depth and in any PvP game, and these happen every 10-20 minutes or so (although far less often in the Haven). I also frequently have only 2 or 3 bars. My home internet setup has not changed at all, and I live right next door to Virginia (I'm in Maryland). The spikes occur at all the times of day I've played, which is from 11am to 11pm and at 5-6am. I'll try to execute Thunder's suggestions with regard to Steam, but I'm not sure why Steam should be encroaching SK.
Are my fellow ragers generally Steam users?

What I know:
- I am US East user located in midwest
- I am not a steam user
- No configuration change on my end has been made in the past few months
- Connectivity to other latency-sensitive services seems unaffected
- The jump in ping that I showed above persists in hops further toward the server (I know ping isn't the be-all-end-all check for latency)
- Tests using actual UDP show normal throughput, packet loss, and delay
- Each of several server IP I have traced each goes through the same nodes listed above
- Seems worse at peak hours
What I suspect:
- The node listed above is near the amazon US East datacenter ("vadata" in the reverse-dns gives a clue)
- The problem could be specific to a geographic region that routes through the suspect node
- Suspect node is congested at peak hours
- BGP table changes from east coast storm damage?
- Not much to do but ride it out until capacity is restored

Yeah my 1-2 bars of connection 24/7 is the most obnoxious stuff ever... And I live in the U.S. ._.

Which storm would this be? The last set of very high winds to go through my area (near DC, just north of VA) was TS Sandy, and the problem seems more recent than that. Is the backbone server located farther north, where I think there may have been a somewhat violent early wintry storm?

Yeah, Sandy. Maybe things didn't get put back together in quite the same way and as the load slowly came back to normal this presented itself. Just wild speculation, I am not a network expert.
As of tonight, things seem to improved somewhat but it might just be Monday night.
(Copy-pasting my post from a similar thread:)
I was a bit curious about the lagspikes, so I downloaded some random tool to get a look at what my bandwidth looked like during the spikes... I know for certain that several people have the same kind of problem.
I'll mention that I'm on a 12 Mbps down, 5 Mbps up network, which I'm the only one using. Here's what I found:
This is a normal connection during a Vana run, the parts with more activity were things like fighting (no lagspikes here):
Here however, you can see two lagspikes very clearly:
The connection goes flat before picking up again and shooting into a huge spike ever 5 minutes or so. The "calm parts" on the second picture equals to the normal connection in the first picture... The spikes are rather predictable, so I can foresee them coming by looking at the graph now...
Here is a third picture for a bit of an overview. I'm pretty sure that the giganormous spike isn't lag, but from an area (like changing floors) change by the way, but you can see the lagspikes hitting every now and then (the low parts here is still the same as the one shown in picture one, just zoomed out):

Looks like OOO won't make a move...should we just give up ._. ?

Can you give me some tips for macbook? I have a school mac book and im here in beijing lol.

New servers cost a huge amount of money and upkeep. And even then they wouldn't even fix that many lag issues since the problem doesn't seem to be too many people on at once. If they were experiencing that problem the lag would be a constant small delay, not spikes.
Spiral knights is a free to play game and as such it most likely isn't as well optimized as many triple A games were the budget for optimizing the game is most likely larger then the amount of money spent on spiral knights in total. They seem to be optimizing is slowly over time, with patches, as is kinda the only way to do this type of thing. If they are taking their time in patching fixes then that's because they are being careful with it and making sure a patch to stop lag for some people isn't causing lag for others.
Also, there is no mmo out there that does not have some problem with lag.

I wonder how many players are there currently in the game (active or recent) (<--- I know that there was once a lot of players coming in because of that TF2 promotion, so taking out all those who don't bother with this game anymore), and compare that to how many new players are joining the game. I am thinking we have about 20-30 new players every 10 minutes or so.
What might have happened was that the server is not able to comprehend for the increasing number of players to tend to, and will somehow ignore few(which is a lot) requests coming from other players.
I want to know!~ How many players are online at any point of time.

@Baronvonmoneybags :
Excuse me, but it seems you have no reading skills at all. We aren't talking about "Small Delays" here! We are telerporting all over the place at peak times! What does that mean ? That means the servers isn't able to handle all that amount of players at the same time, causing "Massive Delays for alot of players". I am sick of your kind of people saying that making servers are very expensive, then why are we paying for this game ?! We are paying to see it improve and all of what are we seeing is that it is getting worse and worse.
Seriously, if you think all mmo have lag problems, then you probably played only a bit of its games....pfft...
And we won't make this thread die until they fix this!

Now I am 100% sure it is a problem of Server Overloading. The lagging is very noticeable in LD, while in CW it is less harmful. It also happens alot at Peak Times.
We demand a new servers OOO ! Please answer us OOO please... :(
Atleast one in Australia and one at Eastern Europe :/
Asia got one already :/

There's been a significant improvement for me over the past few days. Also, it seems hop 9 I showed on the traceroute above has changed to a different address (vadata-ic-157231-ash-bb1.c.telia.net [62.115.9.62]). I didn't check the route all that much so could just be a coincidence.

On the other hand, I disconnected while I was in Haven the other day. In Haven.

Actually, it is Very Very Unstable currently.
I really don't understand what is happening, before, I couldn't even play LD on US server, but now, "Sometimes" I play smoothly there. Sometimes in Haven I get 1 bar, suddenly it goes to 3! If I go to another place in Haven like "Bazaar" connection changes. Sometimes I play on US server better than EU server. I get 1 bar in Haven and 3 bar in Mission Lobby.
I am really sick of this, hope OOO realizes that we are being tortured right here....
ye'll need to restart everything including yer computer and close yer router, unplug the ethernet cables, every single of it, and when ye're at yer home screen of yer computer, check for any programs that interrupts yer connectivity and close them, then ye may boot yer router now. when the internet is available, plug ONLY yer ethernet cable to the router and login to steam. (be sure ye're on the library section or the friends section, avoid stores and community and big picture.)
try booting sk and login, if ye enter ready room less than 5~7 seconds, ye're good to go, so does yer event hub can response about like that, faster than entering ready room. then ye may now replug in yer routers and see if it still okay to play.
if everything is out of the question and does not work, check yer network if anyone outside of yer local area connectivity is sharing network with ye. sometimes it isn't just us but them. or so.
if nothing works, im out of ideas.
(ps. i don't recommend using gamebooster unless yer graphics are not great for sk)
