Anytime someone asks me "is spiral knights any good?" I say "It's not TERRIBLE, but you can double your HP in PVP with cash." Now, 'll usually explain you can get said cash currency by trading with people who pay real money, but it's still a huge turnoff for any casual or hardcore gamer.

Now, for reference, I play striker in T2 LD, with a quicksilver helm and a dusker coat.

Onto the rant. Heart pendants double your HP as a striker. As a striker who doesn't use pendants, a hammer deals exactly half my health. If your HP is above 3, and you get hit to a health below 3, your health will stop decreasing until it hits 3. The second hit is stopped by the 3 hp rule, so it takes a 3rd hit to kill me.

3 hits without trinkets.

Now, say I've got trinkets. My HP is doubled, so each hit deals a quarter of my health. The 4th hit is stopped by the 3 hp thingy, so that totals to 5 hits.

5 hits with trinkets.

So lets say person A and person B have the same amount of defense and each have a hammer, but person B has trinkets. A is smart, and can sneak up on B and get the first hit in. They trade off hits, B hits A, A hits B, and in the end B would have 2 "hits" left, and A is dead even though they landed the first hit. Now I know LD isn't turn based or anything, it's not like each person always hits the other equally, but even if A was quick enough to land another hit, B still wins.

Not to mention that these help the already-overpowered strikers the most. First off; why strikers are overpowered. Now, theoreticaly they're "balanced" at normal level without UV's or trinkets. Though they are able to be equally powerful as other shields with less bonuses. This means more room for UV's. If a striker gets VH ASI on his sword, it helps him. If a recon gets VH CTR on his bomb, it won't increase his power at all. Now, look at the HP. Strikers have lower base HP, so the constant value added by trinkets doubles it. A substantial increase. If a guardian adds them though, it's less noticeable. Adding 1 to 1 adds another whole 100%, adding 1 to 3 only adds another third.

The only fair part is that everyone can technically get them. Of course, if EVERYONE tried to make 5* pendants, we would most likely drive the CE price up into the next digit. It's an obvious money grab, sink CE, or have half the health of everyone else.

Does anyone care about or remember exploring the Clockworks to reach the core of the planet like all the promo videos and NPCs talk about?

No?

Okay. Back to my hole in the ground along with the ideas of cooperative gameplay, team building, and viability in equipment versatility.

Even if you don't play JUST

Even if you don't play JUST LD, it's worth balancing. That and, well, allot of people really do play just LD. Including me, but I don't play much of anything on this game anymore.

"Does anyone care about or remember exploring the Clockworks to reach the core of the planet like all the promo videos and NPCs talk about?"

Haha, no, sorry. Waited too long for a core release, ended up getting shadow keys. Bought my mats off the AH, did rabid snarbo once, made what I wanted. (Arcane salamander with prismatic dragon wings). Looks pretty sick, but I had to change my color to blue... and ironic circumstance.

Make armor, or have none of

Make armor, or have none of the defense of anyone else.
Make weapons, or you won't have anything to attack with.
Make modules, or you won't have any extra bonuses without UVs.

Your final logic applies everywhere.

The ENTIRE GAME is a money grab. Or a time grab, depending on what you want to waste.

As a mostly F2P players, I've made myself dual pentas, and still often use at least 1 on PvE. You act like they are impossible to get. Oh wait, what's that? You don't want to save up and make your own? Well then don't complain about people who do.

I've said this before and I'll say this again, Lockdown is never going to be balanced because you can bring your own gear into the fight.

And above all else, it's a freakin' game. So guess what? If you play the game, you get better at the game! Both gear wise and skill wise. Saying that playing the game to get better gear is a turn-off just confuses and frustrates me.

We want balance because we

We want balance because we want ld to be more challenging for clones and fun for everyone

You have to admit, owning everyone can get boring at times. All we want is for EVERYONE TO HAVE FUN

Did anyone else think the OP sounded like he was talking to himself, and not the forum users? Am I the only one who felt like he used a bunch of blanket statements to draw attention away from the 80% of the game he never mentioned?

"Anytime someone asks me 'is spiral knights any good?' I say 'It's not TERRIBLE, but you can double your HP in PVP with cash.' "

Really? You act as if Lockdown is the only thing worth playing Spiral Knights for, and then you proceed to list out all your reasons why you think Lockdown is broken.

...

It's probably just me.

EDIT: Also, I can tell that this topic was directly inspired from my topic, considering the content of the OP and the title of the thread.

I almost want to stop making new threads now; people use them as launching grounds for banal filler threads.

well...

if you can't be bothered enough to play the limited runs it takes for the 1 time crafting fee of heart pendants, and the once a month trinket slots, then i can't be bothered to care about this problem of yours.

Srsly, i hate lockdown and i just sucked up and played to get tokens for my voltedge recipes, i didn't gripe to friends and strangers that it was "pay to get the coolest 5* brandish."

On top of that, if someone is pure lockdown and 100% hates clockworks and refuses to do it, you should still have played enough to:
A) Crafted your 1 time trinkets
B) Buy trinket/weapon slots

It wouldn't be hard to do a bare minimum of merchanting to stay in weapon and trinket slots while you did lockdown. Heck, if u sell your modules, won't that cover the costs?

p.s.

who plays T2 lockdown?

Really great lockdown players thats who. So tell your friends they must pay for 2x HP and play 100+ hours of it to become competitive. See which one is the bigger turn off.

"I've said this before and

No PvP will ever be completely balanced, unless all starting conditions are the same. That being said, it can be an awful lot more balanced than this.

"Make modules, or you won't have any extra bonuses without UVs."
See, this is what I like in a f2p game. You can get things with mods OR UV's, aka, CE OR Crowns, time OR money, and it caps. Hearts don't cap.

"Did anyone else think the OP sounded like he was talking to himself, and not the forum users? "
Eh. One point for you.

"You act as if Lockdown is the only thing worth playing Spiral Knights for, and then you proceed to list out all your reasons why you think Lockdown is broken."
I said the game wasn't terrible, and I'm sure an awful lot of people consider PvP to be the most important part of any game. Now in SK, it isn't, but whenever I'm asked about a game PvP is pretty much always becomes the topic.

"Also, I can tell that this topic was directly inspired from my topic."
Well, the title is more of a reference. I'dve made this either way, don't blame yourself if you find this to be annoying.

"if you can't be bothered enough to play the limited runs it takes for the 1 time crafting fee of heart pendants, and the once a month trinket slots, then i can't be bothered to care about this problem of yours."
I just don't like burning CE, particularly with this month-only crap. I'm sure I'm able to make the money, but then everyone I fight is going to have half MY health, and that's no fun either. Like what darkshadow said.

So what do you want? You don't like how people have more health, and you don't like how people would have the same health.

No, you misunderstand me. I want everyone to have the same HP (for their class). If I don't use pendants, someones above, if I do, someones below. I can't match everyone's HP, I always have more then someone or less than someone.
