Hello! I recently came across this thread, and it pointed out a big problem: we have no recolors of gunner and bomber gear! To show that we (okay, I'm a hybrid, but what the heck?) care about such a thing, why not step up and create some re-skins ourselves?
You'll need Spiral Spy.
If you come up with anything, then we'd like to see it. ^.^
Oh, and while your at it, why not some re-skinned gunslinger hats?
(Note that you should take care when using SS and modifying the SK files. I recommend you make a complete copy of your rsrc folder before starting any modding.)
I'll definitely try to take up this challenge! I have some other works of my reskinning here. Expect to see the reskinned armors in about a week, that's when my finals end.
However, I do have an explanation as to why the bomber and gunner lines never get recolors beyond what they already have.
In the appdata > LocalLow > spiral > rsrc > item > gear > helm/armor, almost every folder that is designated to a helm or armor model has a recolor.dat (model) file in it. Each recolor.png (the picture skin files) that is also contained in the file contains three distinctly and differently colored parts that can be edited easily. These three parts are called armor_primary, armor_joint, and armor_secondary (helm_primary, etc for the helms). Each of those three parts can be recolored into 19 different preset themes (such as fancy, volcanic), which makes for a total of 6859 combinations for ONE equipment piece. That makes it pretty easy to roll out almost endless reskinned promotions. Everything reskinned thing that has appeared in the Hunter, Hallow, and Frosty Promos has a recolor.dat file.
Notably, bomber and gunner helms and armors don't have a recolor.dat file. But really, it shouldn't be that hard to divide the bomber or gunner equipment into three distinct parts. I can think of ways to do that off the top of my head. The bomber helm can be divided into the the prismatic stripe on the top of the helm, the lighter color that covers the forehead and the temples, and the rest of the helm. The bomber armor can be divided into the prismatic parts of the arms and legs, the main coloring, and the non-primatic part of the legs. The gunner helm can be divided into the strip of cloth that circumvents the hat, the hat itself, and the bandana covering the mouth. The gunner armor can be divided into the sash covering the body, the metal covering the hands, and the pants. Why OOO hasn't done this yet, I can't be sure. *starts typing up a thread for the suggestion forums*
Anyhow, the lack of a recolor.dat file isn't a problem at all. I can simply redesign the skins for the Bombtastic set and the 3* Gunslinger set. :3
TL;DR Almost every model that can be easily reskinned has a recolor.dat and recolor.png file, but bomber and gunner equipment have no recoloring files.
Edit: Oh yes, I'd also like to give trying to create a new reskinned gunslinger helm as well, using Cobalt's concept for the Deadshot Chap. It's not that difficult, I can edit the star that sits on the front of the gunslinger hat. :3
