I used the search bar and google search and I gave up after the 3rd page.
In my opinion the hardest monster to ever be in spiral knights that is not a shadow lair or danger mission monster was the alpha wolver.
I started playing the game in the beggining of october in 2011. Using a bit of money I got 4 star gear before the wolver and retrode nerf.
I had all 4* gear and barely completed a wolver den level in stratum 2.
Alpha wolvers were much harder than devilites back then.
I also think that since battle sprites are being introduced OOO should unerf retrodes and wolvers.
What is/was the hardest monster in spiral knights.
Devilites are hard in groups. Trojans too. In 1 on 1 combat they are both predictable and easily avoidable.
For that, I'd chose stalkers. They put up a fight in small numbers.
tortodrones *troll face here* they deal normal, elemental and piercing damage and... have been removed :c
That said, i would say the ghostmane stalkers.
The retrodes and alpha wolvers were very deadly before they were nerfed.
They were worse than devilites in my opinion.
t3 grievers pre-nerf. Depending on your connection, it was easy to be surrounded before you even knew they were there, and then stun-locked, and then dead.
I find repeatedly that wolvers in groups are/can be hard, they surround you and can break your shield, then you can't shield-bump them, and it's a massacre.
also, Devilites in groups.
Ghostmane stalkers are an annoyance, really. SB and you're fine. or SS, or any vapor bomb really, they all uncloak them*
*as far as I know, I might be wrong, but who does OCH with a VV
Running a graveyard with the old Phantoms and 3 nubs/improperly geared people. Naturally this predates arsenal stations.
I would still probably say toxilargo. If you want to see one, head to Briar Bone Barrage, it's the only place they spawn.
Lhii, that's why DBB is the best weapon against wolvers. They are a joke if you just keep spamming bombs.
*as far as I know, I might be wrong, but who does OCH with a VV
I do, and yes, any status will unlcloak them. VV sometimes even makes Mortarfires drop their gear.
Blitz needle charges can make Mortafires drop their gear.
I hate those fiends they dodge your stuff and also when you take a shot with your blitz you are most vulnerable to be hit by the fiends
Alpha wolvers were really a pain, always breaking my shield with their goddamn tracking. Still I want them back to the way they were, it's like they don't even lift now. :/
These days lag is definitely the strongest monster, the other ones are only a threat if you fight a giant mob in the middle of a small room full of traps, and even like that only some of them will pose a threat.
I farmed Beast strata before they were nerfed, and they were still easy then. Kiting them only took remembering when they first signaled their attack (I guess this is harder in a party, but I solo). I didn't really use my shield at all. I agree that Greavers were the hardest pre-nerf, as stun/freeze/shock clouds could envelop you in a snap. Now I still dislike them, but they're not much worse than some other things out there.
I've heard that in beta gremlin menders were a pain in the !@$, Considering they had alot of health and healed each other very fast, They also attacked you...alot.
Lit up oilers and electrified Quicksilvers were the bane of my days, then they got a Nerf knee the the elbow
I started to play this game since its release on Steam. And I do have to say back then, the Alpha Wolvers (before the nerfbatting) were the most dangerous monsters. Not only they locked on you, but they also could follow your movements, although you could still outrun them if you stop shielding. They taught a valuable lesson of not always relying on it when it comes to avoiding enemy attacks. Of course, just with them, the beasts were a pretty dangerous monster type, but not anymore.
About other nerfed monsters, Retrodes and Zombies used to be pretty dangerous too, since both could follow the knights at close range while sweeping faster, and the retrodes could shoot their laser a lot faster and had more HP than now. Unfortunately, they both are a joke now, just like the alpha wolver.
There was also a bug, apparently, that turned flamethrowers into some serious massacre tools. Imagine at least 100 scorchers at the entrance of the decon. zone. Now imagine all those shooting flames flying across the whole room, chasing your party off. That's how horrifying the scorchers were, and to be honest, I wish I could fight them like that once more.
Currently, I find the Devilites the most dangerous monster for swordsmen, and the greavers for gunslingers/bombers. Funny how both are from the fiend type.
If they are going to bring more power to us with the combat spirtes, they better make the enemies harder...
Used to be the Tortodrone and Jelly green giant. Now, its easily devilites. Speaking of which.... OOO how's those Tortodrones coming along? We're still waiting over here...
I have vague memories of those days of Scorchers - for some reason, I almost never caught fire walking through it, and only rarely when it hit me. And I don't think you'd want to fight them once more, because I don't consider it "fighting" when you can't your enemy and suddenly a line of fire comes out at you.
I still don't remember having trouble with Alphas. You are right in that they broke through shields, but I still evaded them somehow. If I recall correctly, it was only their 3rd bite when they could turn. The Zombies used to have a longer, faster, and more accurate swing but I don't remember that their jump did damage.
So far, I have found only the greavers and the devilites to be consistently annoying throughout all the tiers. They are very mobile in combat, and their warning time is a tad bit shorter than most enemies. That being said, a well-balanced party can easily dispatch the fiends.
The tortodrones? Saw a vid of that thing, and I fell in love with it. Difficult enemies are what makes the game rewarding to play, and I wouldn't mind seeing that behemoth on the field again, hopefully hiding where "Fortune Smiles on the Greedy".
Tortodrones were never hard, really. Alpha Wolvers were even easier, pre-nerf. What really ripped parties apart were Oilers and Quicksilvers, pre-nerf. Invincible, health-regen, and complete unpredictability when status inflicted proved to be more than an handful. Shock Greavers also destroyed people pre-nerf.
Edit: Everything is a joke now, really.
+1 for harder mobs.
An enemy I've always had trouble with for no reason is Mecha Knights. I don't even know why. I just go full-retard fighting them sometimes.
Mecha knights move as fast as the player, their basic attack strikes with no Telegraph whatsoever and they can do it while moving, and their charge attack is deadly at close range, breaking through lesser shields with one hit. When swording them you have to time your attacks, either ducking in, smacking them then shield bumping them away, or knockdown locking them.
They're difficult, but I greatly enjoy parrying with them. Suda makes it fun because if I land a hit, the knockback makes it so they can't retaliate immediately.
@Acid-Snow-Wiki
I remember them shooting flames crossing through the whole floor and chasing me and the whole party. And compared to now, they sometimes were more difficult to deal with than the twackers and demos, specially at large numbers. Of course having 50 gremlins attacking like that right at the start might be a little too much. Still, it would be a lot more fun to fight them like that than now.
Alpha wolvers used to chase players too while attacking as I mentioned, therefore the no shield thing. They were far more difficult to deal with than now, since you can just step aside before they could even attack. Actually, you could aswell, but you couldn't always go on the same way, which makes dodging trickier.
That's true, and to be honest, they were quite the opposite of the spookats. And they didn't, but they could hug you and nom your head out, which was pretty bad news if you were going solo and have no vials to counter it.
Devilites.
They're OP.
They need a nerf. OOO nerfed wolvers into nothing, nerfed JK into a moving punchbag, nerfed retrodes into crap. So when will these annoying b*****ds who take advantage over lag get nerfed?
Actually I'd prefer better ping so shielding against them isn't futile.
Wolvers have never been all that difficult, even pre-nerf. A person handy with a Wild Hunting Blade could tear through waves in a danger room.
The old swipe range with the Zombies and Retrodes was annoying, but the attack timing was awfully regular and predictable. Also, the very first Retrodes had much more dense explosions when using their beam attack. Now that was some serious graphics lag.
When Red Rovers had unnaturally long fire range even in Tier 1 it was difficult, until you picked up some fire resist armor. It was pretty funny to be in a group that didn't know about it.
The original revive mechanic for Menders was apparently pretty brutal but was also short lived.
For me I'm not sure if it's the original Phantom or Rocket Puppy that takes the cake. The Phantoms used to have much more health and a shorter respawn. We would dash through graveyards and not even bother with the loot for a time. The old Rocket Puppy used to have super tracking rockets. The common strategy of having the rocket swing past with a sidestep did not work. If you tripped its field of vision the only thing to do was to run.
IS A SKOLVER CLONE
They move way faster than you, they have really quick attacks and they resist piercing. They also break your shield in less than two hits.
I agree with the old oilers and quicksilvers. A danger room was a big gamble back then. If a room of either would spawn it was usually guarenteed death for the entire party. Now I enter any danger room without hesitation... Only challenge being the turret room. A bit of practice with some Asian bullet-hell games fixes that though.
hardest monser!! the huge phantoms that bite knights and u can shield.
@Hex
Alas, i used to find mecha-knights were my worst enemies, then I discovered the hammer, which seemingly slings it across the map and OHKOs in a single combo
Grimalkins and Phantoms were impossible to kill forever, so that is in a way the hardest monsters.
Highest damaging would be trojan. Those things are still incredibly east to kill though.
Pre nerf I would say aLphas, because the track gave me hell. Now only Snarby can track.
Devilites give everyone hell
So do greavers
I got pwned by a charged quicksilver flying at 10000 mph before. Not anymore
The thing is, the game isnt hard anymore.
Winterfest was the worst thing Ive every gone through.
@Shotjeer, When the rabid snarbies both track me at once, I cry a lot on the inside. I just watch my knight's shield insta-break (BTS) and his health bar vanish. ;-;
TLDR: Snarbies are pretty darn good in terms of difficulty. IQ is just FoV spam, RRT is just patience, and DFVD is just Blitz spam. With Snarby, you have the bells sometimes not working with two of those beasts trying to eat you alive... with a silkwing healing them.
Punch hands down (get it, because punch and hands? never mind). I come and throw a couple of crowns at him and he gives me beast low. I try to run away from him but he draws me back in, promising that ASI very high on the next roll and, what do you know, on the 100th roll I'm at beast low again. Sometimes I wish I could just throw that [shiny] anvil of his back at him.
**WARNING! This video contains an inappropriate speech. If you feel that it's too offensive, please do not watch. Thank you :)**
wow... never had a problem with retrodes nor alpha wolvers (been playing since SK hit steam)
devilites (T2 & T3) and greavers (T3) oh and rocket puppy's (T3)
wolvers you can avoid (and have kind of a long build up to attack) devilites and greavers won't stop chasing you... EVER! (and the rocket puppy is anoying in close quarters or when swamped by other enemy's)
For Me I too agree with OP.
Wolver would latch on to you and wouldnt let go. They would bite my butt and i would die ,_,
I don't get why people hate greavers, yes they swarm you but 1 hit and they stop their attack. I always lure them out to deal with them first as they are the easiest.
For me the hardest are Devilish. The only Danger mission I have trouble with is Frozen Heart o.O
You only had to have distance between you and the alpha wolver pre-nerf. Devilish will snipe you -_-
Mander...those revive are annoying...Deadnaught is also almost the same :(
Now the hardest monsters are greavers, devilites and those horrible tier 3 rocket puppies.
Turrets are annoys me a lot by spamming bullets to me.
They are more annoying than dangerous though.
Callahan > pre-nerf alphas, I remember doing wolver arcade runs for bushy tails since they sold nice, and it wasn't very difficult since Callahan could just snipe Wolvers + didn't get dodged / cause them to go on a dodge frenzy. I wish they weren't nerfed, it wasn't even a cheap difficulty, it was a legit difficulty.
I remember back when I was a noob before missions and soloed the gloaming wildwoods with proto armor an iron buckler a punch gun and a spur without dying once. I don't know how I did it. If you did not have a peircing weapon wolvers were hell.
bats sure are not dificult by themself .. thats why they are the hardest .. they never spawn alone .. they usualy go slap your joy when you fight trojans or turrets or develites .. u know .. any enemy that need to die first before they burns everyones shield
Greavers are hard even when they are the only enemies because they come in groups.
You know your'e screwed when you get surrounded by 6 greavers and a silkwing and the greavers break your shield.
Clearly Trojans, devilites and Tortrodrones are considered the most difficult monsters as devilites deal huge damage, are very swift thus annoying the Trojans have an unbreakable shield and deal huge damage aswell while the Tortrodrone is kinda like Trojan but dealt piercing and elemental and had high health.
