I propose that someday, SEGA, OOO, and Pixar get together to make a family-friendly TV show based on Spiral Knights. The series would focus on things like adventure, friendship, and discovering the meaning of life, all the while delivering some pretty intense combat. The plot of the pilot episode explores the adventures of the knights as they leave Isora to discover the "fabulous sentient energies" found somewhere in the universe. Along the way, they encounter the Morai, their arch-enemies and counterparts, and do battle with them. In the last episode of this series, they encounter a planet emanating the "sentient energies" they mentioned in the pilot episode, and after partially scanning it, the ship suddenly loses power and plunges to the surface, causing havoc on board and forcing the knights to hit the escape pods. The audience is left wondering whether the friends on board will ever find each other (alive) again.
Since Spiral Knights is a combat game, combat style will be important to the series. Swordsmen both attack and parry attacks with their swords, while sometimes doing "cool moves" like rolling under enemies, somersaulting over them, or otherwise doing sword-related stunts. They're kinda like the "Jedi Knights" of the series. Gunners will either be going all hero, charging in with guns blazing and artfully dodging bullets, or they will be taking cover and having cover-related tension (like in the crime shows). They're kinda like the "Master Chiefs" or "Commander Shepards" of the series. Bombers get some serious love: they get to throw their bombs, slip 'n slide under and around their enemies, flip over them, and do cool Zelda leaps to plant bombs on larger enemies (yeah, I'm lookin' at you, Royal Jelly). They get to be the rockin' grenade heroes of the series. Seriously, in my imagination, I already love watching them work.
The series will focus on four main characters:
Lieutenant Feron is a wise, kindly character, and sounds simultaneously old and deep-throated. He ranks second only to Ozlo. He is often seen giving sage advice to various characters at various times throughout the series.
Lieutenant Vaelyn feels like a tomboy to some people. She is a military officer through and through, professional to the core, and totally committed to her work. At first, she doesn't really care about the knights under her command, but as the series progresses, she develops a heart (so to speak), and gains a level of thoughtfulness. She eventually becomes so thoughtful that she begins to drift off during her less-exciting missions. She often butts heads with Feron, who is much more caring but is also more willing to bend the rules for the benefit of the knights. I'm imagining her to be voiced by Jennifer Lopez.
Lieutenant Desna is something of a contradiction within the knights. She is gruff, deep-throated (i.e. not pretty-sounding), and carries a tough-girl act, but is unusually compassionate towards her knights. I imagine her to be voiced by an old, black woman with a thick drawl.
Lieutenant Barrus is a cheery, joking sorta fella with a big heart. He's also sort of a smooth-talker, and has been trying to warm up to Vaelyn (but with little effect until much later). As the swashbuckling hero that he is, he likes to be fashionably late to a battle before wiping it clean with his sword.
The series will mostly center on these four characters until they hit Cradle. If you guys like the idea, I may talk about the next two series I had in mind.
Spiral Knights would be a perfect TV show, for both children unfamiliar with the game, players of the game and people who enjoy god things in general, SK has such a cute and friendly feel yet a serious story with surprising depth, if a show ever came out i want be watching it in a heartbeat, man, the dev has got to see this :D.
