sorry for bumping, but I really think that this thread will be useful. if used propely (i.e.: with some more guys telling something) it would prevent a part of the noob spam. ergo, I declare this topic to be not a poll anymore. post bosses. I am really too busy (and lazy) to search and link all of them. also, I would find the crappy ones. so, I beg for your help. thank you (obviously, the thanks is active only for the ones who post. to others, tanks.)

ok, I know you have seen tons of topics on this. this is different. I am not going to give you another idea. I'm simply asking you to choose a boss that you remember, and say: this is the best boss idea imo(not active anymore, bt you can tell). if you would please get a link on the topic in which the idea is, you will give a lot of help. now, some questions: (optional)
1 why do you think that the boss idea you have chosen is better than the others? (of the many, many, many...< repeat for a century > many others)
2 should it have tokens? if so, what they should be?
3 do you have any suggestions/ better ideas than your chosen boss creator?

4 do you really want a new boss? (answer only if it's no) why?

fiend boss:
Aureate: devilite CEO. no link aquired.

gremlin boss:

other boss:
Luguriu wasn't actually sure about placing. undead? fiend?

no boss:

please, do it for the noobs. I am willing to bump this thread once in a while (like, right now). think of this as an investiment. (did this beg before the one above.)
thread bumps for editing the first post: 4

This thread makes me want to set up an index for the index in my thread. I am going to do that before posting this.

Anyway, bosses. I have things to say about them. Since most of those things involve violence, drugs, or nudity I have to be briefs.

Boss fights in classic games are unique and highlight experiences. With normal enemies you usually start with simple maps and traps and plane wing flaps then when you get used to a kind of enemy they throw you in some weird setups where the world is new and difficult even if the enemies are the same, but since the environment is different the enemies can seem more difficult because of new and old colliding. What am I talking about? Bosses, right. So they have some weird things you have to do before a boss fight to teach you how to beat the boss because mindlessly smashing it is not supposed to work. You have to throw a bomb in its mouth. You have to hit a sweet spot. You have to press some buttons in a specific order. You have to push something on its noggin. Normal enemies usually scale up from the starting enemies. For example, imagine if the T1 Trojan could be attacked from its shield side but it takes only 50% damage from the front, in T2 it works as it does right now, and in T3 if you attack it from the front it can immediately dash. Moral of the story, do not stand in front of Trojans. You had T1 to see something abnormal, T2 to confirm it, and T3 to test if you were paying attention. Getting off topic again. You can probably tell by now I would rather discuss what makes bosses interesting to fight but everyone knows people only care about the payouts and token rewards in this game.

  1. I have no favorites because when I like a boss thread that means I like it. Why only like one? If I see something that fits what it means to be a boss, good. Good job. Go have an ice cream cone. Lactose intolerant? I can eat it for you.
  2. I think boss token items should be designed to do something relevant to the boss and/or its preceding floors that other weapons can only struggle to do. The problem is making that happen. Crest of Almire is a good example but shields are easy to make stats for. Firestorm. Things have melee attacks. Almost everything deals shadow damage. Trojans can shock when they buff themselves. Fire is everywhere. Done. If doing that is too difficult then make the equipment have similar abilities to the boss or its preceding floors. Nautical theme? Anchor heavy sword. Why the liquids not.
  3. In my own thread I have been procrastinating posting a boss idea of my own. If you want to spoil the idea for yourself you can find it listed easily. I have also been kicking around a few other boss ideas but it usually falls back to the preceding floors with unique normal enemies and map features that make the boss seem uninteresting in comparison.
  4. The boss can be whatever family it wants, I just want to see something unique and satisfying.

ok.

*takes ice cream* thanks for the... well, opinion, I guess. you say lots of things. I like that.
EDIT: I just started to read that thread of yours. after the last lauhghing explosion, I decided that:
1 you are an evil mad genius. I would post something about it, but it would be a refearance to another game.
2 I like you when you post lots. I like you less when you post tons.
3 I may think about getting in your asylum. seems like a good place to live.

Processing Thoughts of You Always

1. If I had to pick one, it would probably be that ancient Devilite CEO thread from ages back that I can't actually recall who posted it right now (Doctor Spacebar? It wasn't Indigo's, it went into detail about all the pre-boss levels and new enemies and awesome stuff). You know the one, it had that massive overtimer boss and lots of little devilites hurrying around and using cubicles as turrets to lob paperwork at you. Or the one with the Ice-themed Greaver boss that had snowball bombs as a reward. Fun times. I'm perfectly happy with a well-thought-out boss thread, though, it's just that that one sticks out in the memory.

2. It's a boss, it should have tokens. Appropriate tokens for whatever family or appearance it has, as well as thematically appropriate weapons and armours. Someone designed a really sexy Greaver costume once that I liked. Detonating snowballs are fun to play with, too.

3. I have a few vague ideas for bosses, but none that I've posted recently.

4. Fiend boss: Either a Greaver or Devilite-style boss. We already have Arkus and Maulous for the Trojan subtype, and I feel as if we could do with something different. Silkwings are obviously out of the question. Greavers would be amusing for the bomber-esque bomb abilities.
Gremlin boss: There are all the other members of the Crimson Order to play around with. Maybe a Gremlin that uses shock-themed weapons; the description of the Pulsar says that they're used by the elite troops, so it's plausible we might see some enemies flinging those around (god forbid, Pulsar spam everywhere).
Other boss: Sure, why not, as long as it's reasonably thought out.
No boss: The thing is, do we really want the arcade to be expanded with more gates? We already have four open at any one time; if extra bosses are included in general Clockworks, then they must either have a gate added on or not be available all the time. It might make things more interesting with regards to earning tokens, though, if not all bosses are consistently available. I'd say things might get shaken up a little were it not for the fact that missions are re-playable and people will keep doing the most profitable thing.

makes me think

for the gates: since we actually do not need all of those gates ( who needs the arcade anymore? home made, sorry.) we could just have 3 gates with 3 bosses, that cycle. from time to time we may have rjp or imf.

got to edit.

I should have stated that I count only bosses from the arcade. but maybe I only stated those two types because the topic was about boss ideas on those. I'll edit saying that I accept all bosses types.
also, I get that you don't want a new boss?
