So...... Wtf happened? With the core and the arcade?

Alright alright, so I made a thread asking why the devs would even think to make about... 1/5 of the armor in the game, specifically the 1/5 that was overshadowed by other armors.... Armor of the Fallen is objectively worse than deadshot. etc. And then Bopp mentioned that the armors were there from earlier in the game's history, where they DID make some sense... which I knew entirely, but he still reminded me of it. And that got me thinking about the core, and about everything else that happened...

A bit later, I went back and read some of the old patch notes, and here is the thing- They were working on the core. And then they stopped and didn't.

Then they announced it in January of 2011: http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/1003

And were still working on it a couple weeks later.. "Coming Soon": http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/1086

Then, in February of 2011: http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/1290

Note that the other common theme here was that the devs were testing gate creation and that whole thing. Like here- http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/2383

And then the next few months seemed to be fixing problems caused by releasing the game to the public- like when they changed the nature of the items to cost twice as much to craft... even though now, the cost of the items is about 4 times what it once was due to the inflated CE prices. At the time, CE was 4,000 cr per 100.

They changed the Arcade to once again, reflect upon the nature of the larger playerbase- http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/9565

And then.... The Snarbolax and the Roarmulus twins? And then Polyps? And then Krogmo What about the core that they "were working on"?

And then something called Shadow Lairs was announced. And finally, it dawned on me where they got the content for the shadow lairs from.

This: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBnsYC4hHZM ...was put on youtube April 2nd of 2011.... prior to which time Harry Mack must have made all of the music for the "core experience of the game", no pun intended. But they didn't use it for the core, because they ditched the core, and made Shadow Lairs instead.

So lets go back a bit again and examine the other stuff that happened during that time period... and we know that the players weren't happy about the development of the game back then. Why? Because the devs nerfed several of the monsters, doubled the crafting costs, killed the crafting industry, and then made accessories. Basically, the devs must have been going broke or something... which is why they don't release rose regalia again. Those were the first players to support them... They must have needed money though, because SEGA bought them here- http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/33687

Arcade updates stopped during the summer as well. Its like they gave up on it.. and then, more fodder. We got European servers, which may or may not have resulted from SEGA buying OOO.

And then the mission system came out, and it turned the game upside down, because it killed the arcade... oh and, lets see something here.....

Nick says quite a few things here: http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/8736

And then directly contradicts himself by making the Hall of Heroes... and look at the "Supply Depot", which directly sells you weapons. Keep in mind that this is all coming from the same man that said this-

"Ultimately, it's important for us that players that choose to craft their own items do not feel their experience can be easily matched by a player that decides instead to get their item from the Auction House or in trade. The progression of finding and crafting items is the core experience we built the game to provide for our players and we will not see it devalued." -Nick

They're changing the game away from a sandbox model, and into a themepark MMO... but do they really want to? Is it that they're having trouble finding places to put new content? Is it because thats what SEGA wants? It DID start when they ran out of stuff from earlier and joined SEGA.

Ya im with you

I been asking those same questions myself. They haven't made truly clear how much of an impact sega has over Spiral knights. I have gotten quite fed up with slow speed of releases or more so the lack of information. I mean if an update is going to take a long time they should convey that to us. Tell us what's going on. You have a community manager, have that person relay us this information. Tell us your goals for spiral knights or something. We get very little information and that bothers me more than anything. I understand they are a very small team. That however shouldn't be an excuse to not communicate with their players.

Wrong! SEGA Radio station or whatever interviewed Nick last summer. He said they're still working on the core and much more content to be released. Some that have been said already (pets) and some that he clearly said, yet it has not been announced (more missions). Do more research.

Ok... you guys who keep spamming the DERP CITY and the wankery images need to seriously quit that... Here I am making a nice thread about my ridiculous conspiracy, and you darned kids come in and start goofying about everywhere? What is this?

@Everyone mature enough to actually craft a meaningful comment free of spam:

Regarding the "Haha, you're wrong because Nick said something to RADIOSEGA!"

RS: Spiral Knights even as it stands today has evolved each time adding new features, like new bosses or, more recently, the mission mode. What do you hope the future holds and will we ever see what's in the core?
(Question by Urtheart)

Nick: We plan on continuing to expand the world of Cradle and the story of the Spiral Knights with new missions and exciting features. We've got a bunch of interesting ideas for what the future holds, including the Core. We know everyone has been waiting patiently for the Core and eagerly await the day that we can tell you more about it, the Swarm and the fate of the Alpha Squad!

This does not NEARLY equate to what Nick said during the beta quote in the OP- "We're also working on The Core! Details need to remain scarce at the moment, but everything is looking great and we will be making this exciting new experience available to players as soon as its ready.

Nick, knowing how players quoted him, judged him by his exact wording, gave this response.

If you don't believe me, dig deep into the forums. There is clear evidence that Nick, and the rest of the devs, wised up and stopped giving out information as players hated on them and nitpicked what they'd said. 'Old Nick' example- making a defensive statement: http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/370#comment-2055

Also keep in mind that they asked him the question point blank, and that they are SEGA's radio station... Nick isn't going to be like "ROFL, naw, I gave up on that. Pfft." So he just told them exactly the truth- that they know what the core holds, but haven't made any progress on it... leaving out the part where they took the content meant for the core and added it to the game as Shadow Lairs.

So anyways, while we're on the subject of Radio SEGA-

RS: What are the most difficult things about your job?
(Question by GameTrekker)
Nick: Probably trying to juggle everything that's associated with developing a live game and keeping up with maintaining a live game with regular content releases. Sometimes I'm envious of my friends who work on a boxed game for years at a time before shipping it.

Yup.

-------------------

The accessories and things like that are needed for them to make a profit now- and it helps us in a way, and largely hurts us in other ways. I can forgive them for releasing recoloured armors... and besides, they've only made 2 recolours as promos. Hunter and Surge- all the others were for events, like Halloween and Christmas. Would you REALLY have the art team making junky Halloween and Christmas stuff instead of actual content?

They're obviously trying, and they're obviously not good enough... but we all still want them to be so? We just think that they're lazy or something? But really, I'm not sure who the villain is. Is SEGA forcing Nick into releasing things? Is there some kind of massive financial issue behind any of this?

I don't like the direction the game is going and has been since missions came out, not one bit. They've done next to everything right besides the few entirely wrong things that went down relating to missions, shadow lairs, and the core.... and I'd really like to see them make the game they started rather than this goofy thing... well, thats the motivating factor behind this thread anyway.

I have a dirty confession to make.

I made some balance suggestions for Wakfu a couple weeks ago. Yesterday they released a list of changes to come by around April for the class I made the suggestions for. Among the changes were a couple of my ideas modified a bit as well as some suggestions from other users. Does this count as infidelity?

I miss playing this game for adventurous shenanigans in the Arcade. I miss joining completely random parties with complete strangers who have never seen my name before who I can not only enjoy fighting alongside, but we work well together as if we rehearsed combinations of attacks and motion because we both know how our weapons work and compliment effects of other weapons. I miss seeing people use Alchemers without switch spamming because they can use it normally. I miss when people use swords for the basic attack combo because using the charge attack means allowing enemies to molest other people in your party. I miss starting sentences without having to talk about myself because I am sick of everything being about personal perspective though there are probably a few people out there who share the same nostalgia. Lastly I feel like a broken record since it seems like I post this same rant at least once a week. Oh look, here comes the gentleman in the white coat with the extra large syringe bubbling with glowing red soda. This is certainly going to be an interesting flav-

I have the answer for your

I have the answer for your question Nick and the other guys were developing the core and you never know but they might have even completed it

This thread is proof that they are working on things far, far ahead of what we may be thinking: http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/74610

Shadow Lairs was made around the time SK was released, or something like that. I stand by mah first poast!!! All of the stuff from beta is the stuff that is going to be released in the future. They edit and do revisions, is what I am thinking. Three Rings probably has a syllabus with all of the things that they plan on releasing in an orderly fashion. We get a dozen hundred accessory patches that lead up to new content, who knows? That's just how the company likes to roll/Nick. Or maybe yeah, they got bored of SK and just want to get paid. We keep falling for the bait, we buy from CE promos and they get their Friday paychecks. Though Spiral Knights is a game, it is also a job. People get tired of their jobs.

Three Rings can just add more lore to the game, extending what happens after the core. I-M-A-G-I-N-A-T-I-O-N.

You've got some nice points there... And the quotes make everything more believable. I just wonder if this new path that the game took is actually more or less profitable for them;
In my head it would be more profitable in the short term since a bunch of promos with the bare minimum content (the minimum so that the community can keep hoping and don't leave the game) can give them some quick bucks from the community with almost no work but it can really ruin everything after some time (ex: right now me and most of my sk-friends are hanging around for 2 things; chatting and hoping for actual content and/or arcade revival but if things keep that way we will eventually give up and stop playing, the game is much less unique than it was before so it shouldn't attract that many people, plus they shouldn't stick long after noticing that they will only play the same thing over and over in a game that doesn't even have something to differentiate itself from the other ones since right now it's just another mission based MMO). But who knows, maybe this new path is more attractive than the older one to the consumers given that the suckiest games tend to sell more nowadays.

It's clear that somewhere down the line, something took a turn decidedly for the worse.

That's a link to the early days for the forum. Go ahead and scroll forward about 50, 100, 200, 400 pages. Notice how on the first couple of hundred pages, half the topics have responses from the developers and moderators. A lot of it was idle, friendly chatter with the playerbase. Mods were excitedly reporting about their own adventuring and experiences with various weaponry. Nick would help out with details regarding stats on weapons and always eagerly looking for feedback, especially regarding weapons. When topics were raised about the latest patches that sent people up in arms, devs and mods would engage in reasonable discussions and attempt to defend their choices.

They cared. They cared as much as we do.

So what happened? Are they just sick of the game after working on it for so many years? Did Sega tell the lot of them to keep the idle chatter down and act more professionally, saying as little as possible so that Nick won't spill something that can be used against him? (This has not worked an iota. With the few statements we get from the man, scrutinising players just get that much more time to go through each one of them to find particularly twistable words they can quote, such as the ever-infamous statement about shards not being bomb-like and what each weapon was supposed to do.)

Maybe, from their perspective, the playerbase changed and they just don't like us anymore. It used to be a group of starry-eyed adventurers, eagerly exploring every nook and crany about the game, asking excited questions and sharing tales of the clockworks. Every detail of the game is laid out right there in the wiki. The adventure is gone and we have nothing left to be starry-eyed about. So we demand more. We beat down upon their doors and we demand more. Pitchforks and torches. Petitions and campaigns and witty, sarcastic topics underlined with antagonism.

We are not the playerbase the development team once knew.

Yep. It could open a doorway to an entire universe of planets, possibly hundreds or thousands, to explore. Each one containing new life forms, dozens of unique bosses and their own core leading you to the other planets. We could be fighting new bosses in new levels forever. But we might have to live with AH sales being limited to each planets population.

I wish they'd crack that core wide open and be creative about it.

some thingy things

@ zeddy: I can practically destroy some of your ideas.

Are they just sick of the game after working on it for so many years? Did Sega tell the lot of them to keep the idle chatter down and act more professionally, saying as little as possible so that Nick won't spill something that can be used against him?

on the first: if they were, they could quit or get new ideas. since the community has lots, they could just make one.
on the second: it's probable, since SEGA doesn't do much MMOs, but I think they are intelligent enough to see that it's counterproductive. it's better a dictator that listens to his people once in a while than a good king that decides on his own. chatting creates risks: ok. no chatting creates "lonliness", which makes people ask for things. not so good. think about it: if they kept releasing things, they would satisfy the 90% of the noobs. they would be too busy to ask. but they would run out of ideas. wait, this is not in the topic at all. well, in conclusion, someone should check other OOO games to see how is the situation. just for seeing.
as for the community, I don't think that is the problem. well, not the community itself. it's only too big. when a community is little, you can know practically everyone. now it's impossible. also, I see admin names that I have never seen before on those topics. so, they are working reeeeeeeeeeealy hard, or they have already quitted. I hope not. but actually, I just had some other idea. could they be overrun by support requests? you know how many players do a request daily? just asking.

I really hope that: 1 they are working on something really big. 2 SEGA is not bossing them around. 3 they still enjoy running with their alts. 4 that I will not die for this post. now, in the bunker!

The player base has changed

The player base has changed dramatically since beta, and 000 continues to respond to those changes. The big difference, however, is that the communication is now indirect--based on survey info, info gathered from player behavior, etc. Realistically, if they continued the same level of engagement they used to have with the (much smaller) player base from beta on the forums--as Zeddy links to--the whole staff would do nothing but respond to snark all day. I mean, seriously: check out the tone of the posts by the players, not just by the staff members, and then meander through the first couple pages of any section of the forums now. For every addition, rebalance, change, etc. made in-game, there is at least some small segment of the SK population screaming about it, and often when the idea is just floated, long before anyone outside of the 000 staff has any idea how the new material might even be implemented. Given that (often caustic) environment, I can't say I could blame 000 for backing off of direct communication. We can point fingers and argue as to which came first, the change in the player base or the change in 000's interaction with their players, but the fact of the matter is that SK has "grown up," and no amount of kvetching is going to bring back the old days--and that includes overanalyzing every move 000 makes.

@Rwopa

Nice catch! I've got the sniffles at the moment and was kinda tired when I wrote all of this.. I went ahead and fixed the three links in the OP. I actually think I have more of a case this way than before. Still makes sense with the shadow lair music being in the beta, as Harry Mack would have made all of the music at once for Spiral Knights, before making the monstrosity that is the soundtrack of Dr. Who Worlds In Time.

@ "changing playerbase = acceptable no feedback"

I kind of mentioned that, and you're absolutely right- but is it really so hard to post a few times per day on random threads? Just to help the community along. Like... with this, we made hugeee threads about why we hated shadow lairs, tons of community feedback and the devs just kind of hid and eventually made Shadow Keys buyable, after people had ragequit because of it. It certainly wouldn't hurt for the devs to be a part of their community beyond being the "voice of god" every so often.

I have never been touched by

I have never been touched by another community member from this game like I have with Zeddy. Zeddy, your post is DEAD. ON. RIGHT!
I used to be a nicer and less crazy-raging-rantish player back in the early days of this game. The community has changed due to the collaborations that Three Ring has done with other companies. Steam, Kongerate, SEGA, and w/e other companies they have teamed up to gain more players into this game. These different companies have different types of communities. Three Rings is at fault for the community that they have nowadays. Steam players are more hardcore and more logical thinkers when it comes to ways of making game money. I don't know what type of playerbase did Newgrounds and Kongerate bring, but casual players who are casual and simple with less greedy and hardcore intentions would be the ones who had no community and formed the original SK community, before Three Rings partnered with Steam and just had SEGA. I was from the original SK community. I joined Steam around last year of April, but still stick to my casual gaming. All these different communities have created this current SK community. Companies CAN loose interest in their game if their community becomes distasteful, which can change the way the company works and treats the game.

The newbies (w/e community they may originally come from) that come into SK follow their peers. More irritating greedy foo's continue to grow in this community, I AM SAD.

I'm not trying to suggest

I'm not trying to suggest that the dual changes in the community and 000's communication with the community make it ok for there to be NO updates as to what is being developed. Look at all the old players who came streaming back when the GH update dropped, or all the excitement when we got the first look at the BSs (I don't remember who first noticed the acronym for Battle Sprites, but I still laugh at that every time)--clearly it's not all ill will, and I, as much as anyone else, am always drawn to see what's going on when that purple 'admin' flag pops up on a thread. I'm just saying that I think we, as the forum-going community, need to be realistic in our expectations as to the level of direct communication we get, s'all.

kongregate and newgrounds offer various MMOs, they are flash games sites. so with them we have a niiiice everything. from noobs to overachievers. from casuals to "spend over a million dollar a day" guys.
though, I know that noobs on kong don't make it through the first levels of everything is really simple and/or well explained (had a close encounter myself, and that wasn't only one). so I hope less noobs.
from the little experience I had on newgrounds, that platform accepts everything. I don't know if they accept everyone too. I hope not.

Thanks for the topic!

It really has a lot of thought put behind it. *hats off to Fehzor*

Anyway, I think that since Sega came by, they forced an income on OOO and that is why lately each and every event has a box promo on it: they need money or Sega will shut them down - which anyway, when PSO2 comes by, they will most likely because come on, it is Sega.

Also, the Sega joining most likely forced what other people said: a silent treatment, a non-disclosure agreement, as well as having to agree to Sega businessmen regarding monetary issues - the two more obvious being the Shadow Key debacle and the Valve pact (they don't have to blame for that - or maybe they have too?) with Expansion Missions. But it looks like that OOO isn't happy about this either, because OOO said that another Expansion Mission was on the way and we don't have it yet.

More on the non-disclosure agreement: We could "chat" before with devs, they could get our ideas more directly, discuss them etc. As Suggestion board doesn't get filtered, only really popular suggestions - like the Guild Hall one - may really get to OOO's ears (yeah, I know GMs have stated that they give devs what new suggestions were made, but then again, if they don't catch their eye or keep being popular they don't have infinite memory on what was suggested) which has caused a "now what? what do you want?" from devs.

We can see they are a bit lost regarding gear balancing - I could also say that I THINK that the Shard debacle was forced by Sega due to RSS being a FOUR STAR weapon - and I don't know what they are really going to do about it, just look at the Chaos Set right now and Mad Bomber Set. Which, btw, OOO said they were "taking feedback about it", like with RSS changes... and after another update, there hasn't been a response and lots of Chaos Sets are most likely already crafted or on its way to it.

So, Tl;dr version? Yes, I reaaaaaally think Sega has a hand on this. And I don't think, sincerely, that they want Spiral Knights to REALLY succeed - it would just get on the way of Phantasy Star Online 2 and they wouldn't get 100% profit.

Fast edit: BTW, those times Nick and so appear ingame? Take the chance and tell them things! It is the perfect chance to give them feedback! I am SURE they want it. But they have to be cautious :/

This game, for economic

This game, for economic reasons I'll guess, can't really go in the direction it would want to go, but it has to go in the direction user experience pushes.

>Retention rates are low, release a new tutorial area (again and again and again)
>Not making enough money and people rushing through the content too fast, raise craft costs, binding, put obligatory tier clearance (remember when it didn't exist?)
>People don't even get to T3 before dropping the game, release more T1 and T2 stuff to make stuff interesting, also make most monsters easier and add more types of them
>Not making enough money, release accessories and promos. This was a pretty good call I'd say.
>Still not good enough, people are bored without direction, content needs streamlining for the masses, release missions, hall of heros, depot
>Etc etc etc.

The core is not a priority at all really I'd say, but looking at statistics, most of these changes haven't had much impact on the amount of online users. Although they have kept the game alive, which may not be the case otherwise.
I don't think the SEGA acquisition has anything to do with this, OOO still has creative control and such, it's not as if they had been bought by Activision. A lot of "nuisance" changes happened WAY BEFORE the SEGA acquisition.

I'm still waiting for the core since Beta, I remember asking the devs (back when they would pop in the arcade) and they told me "the core is crazy!" as if they were playtesting it already. Nick decided to change plans because players it seems though.

I've gotten an analysis based

I've gotten an analysis based on what I have read from the posts on this thread. The answer for new content is simple.

SUPPORT SPIRAL KNIGHTS.

A lot of players are feeling that they don't need to spend money on SK, especially end-game players. If more people were paying for content from this game, then maybe the company would release more game content. A lot of these people expect Three Rings to give them more playable content, but they fail to see the fact that if the game is low on funds, and more and more players refuse to pay any $$ for this game because they like to underrate it and whatever other motives they may have, we can't expect a game to grow if no one wants to support it. That could also be another reason why these patches have been about accessories. I understand there are many people who cannot pay for this games, due to w/e reason that may be, and that's okay for them to stay f2p. But imo, for players who can pay $$ to SK, but refuse to do so because they are underrating the game, then that's a different story. I always regret buying into these promos, cus I never get exactly what I want from them, but as time passes, I forget about the past and move on to the future. I know it's doing good to the company anyways. I mostly blame the hardcore players of SK who don't feel like paying $$ to this game. I've done crazy things, but I never look back on the past, since because of my casual gaming ideals, I don't really care. I play for the now and for what I want to do and get.

Let's talk about supporting Spiral Knights:
In order for players to support SK, there needs to be a reason. These patches... Three Rings can do better... Make Arcade the main attraction; increase profit and heat; make people move to Arcade; give players lots of benefits from Arcade; make SK addicting to them. If people like the game are addicted to it, the you get ur mula $$$

OOOs gets mula, we get content. If Nick has lost his appeal for his game, then he needs to take a break from SK, clear his mind, and come back to it feeling refreshed and with ideas, like how writers get their writer blocks or how musicians can't find inspiration for their music.

Among everything that's happened

Something that always stood out to me was that this was Nick's game. He essentially said that he could now make a game in his own vision, something he always wanted out of those experiences of old classics. Considering that, I was able to follow along with the game for a while and see why _x_ was there, or why _y_ would be implemented, or why _z_ functioned like it did; could sympathize, comprehend his decisions.

At some point, any connection I could see dissolved, and it makes me wonder if the current game is really within the acceptable bounds of what Nick envisioned. And if not, if he could really allow it to come this far.

"Rebalancing" the Arcade against missions by inflating their payouts would be like making family bonuses treat our own armor as families to replace Skolver with Dragon Scale for the new generation of clones. Instead of stacking towers one step at a time there needs to be features which have different incentives and advantages to give people reason to do anything if they happen to need whatever one thing offers which others do not. Even though this is at least the fifth time someone including myself has brought these up here are some examples:

  • Doing Arcade floors give you "Arcade Tokens" (T1 gives 1 per floor, T2 gives 2 per floor, T3 gives 3 or 4 per floor), missions require a certain amount of these tokens to access (not complete, just to be able to start the mission from the lobby; if you try to join a mission in progress you will still need to pay the token entry fee); these tokens will only be received if you have been in the party since the previous floor and continue to the end of the floor meaning you have to be there from start to finish of the whole floor and have been in the same run since the previous floor (includes mission lobbies, break floors). This creates synergy between the Arcade and missions because you have to do one to be able to access the other, but if you simply do the Arcade you can horde up these tokens which may involve special rewards for doing so whether cosmetic or practical. These tokens are not tradable as any other token and do not have a purchasable multiplier like Krogmo to prevent pay to win.
  • Remove boss tokens rewarded for defeating bosses through missions, increase the token reward for completing the boss mission for the first time to three. People who are running the mission will be able to reap loot and heat but only the first time will give them tokens which makes boss token equipment "special" again since you would only be able to get it yourself by running through the Arcade.
  • Minibosses and special strootims that only appear in the Arcade. The Arcade becomes a complex world with less predictable native life awaiting unsuspecting knights whereas in missions they tell you what will show up to the party and which color its outfit is going to be. Special strut-hams are only created with certain tier mineral setups and are not mandatory to appear like normal boss straitoums and do not necessarily contain unique loot.
  • Unique map features/puzzles/traps only found in the Arcade, likely to be part of the Arcade exclusive minibosses. May involve friendly NPCs who, instead of following a knight idiotically and attacking whatever comes close, is part of a puzzle which the team must figure out and interact with. May involve guarding a friendly NPC who will unlock a bonus loot room as payment for your services. The possibilities are only as limited as our imaginations. Some of us have imaginations that get us thrown in the crazy house. At least the meals are decent and they let us draw with crayons.

For more information go to our website at www.fartingonomelettes and we can all have a jolly good time impaling jelly filled donuts on the eyeballs of squids.

@Luguiru

1. +1 I support this the most, this would force players to go into the arcade to get the tokens if they wish to do the missions or repeat them if they have already done them. If they don't wish to however for boss dungeons then they can go to them from the Arcade instead.

2. Neutral. The first part i am fine with as it would help new players to the game to get what they want from Brinks slightly easier. The second part i am not sure about, it may cause uproars in the community.

3. +1 i would like more minibosses in the game, the Arcade need some then giving them their own missions. The Big Iron and Maulos were good examples but they were in the danger missions only and can only be fought every 4 days.

4. +1 THAT sounds very good, i have seen very few games which the NPCs are smart instead of being very stupid: getting caught in crossfire, alerting the enemys, etc. Puzzles themselfs would be very intresting, making SK more zeldaish or some sort.

There is something i would like to suggest a bit, i wont go much detail into this at the moment: How about when you select to start a mission, instead of starting it, it is added to your "missions tabs" and it would make levels of that mission appear in the Arcade or some sort, thus you will have to go into the Arcade to do the missions. You can only have one at a time and can remove them at will but they can't be removed if you are in the Arcade/Clockworks. Missions that replace Depth 4/13/23/Moorcroft/Emberlight cant be selected, boss dungeons CAN be selected but it wont change the Arcade, it would mark the boss dungeon upon completing it give you the rewards. I am not sure about Operation: Crimson Hammer through as all depths on it are marked "???".

In the "dev's posts" aspect, the very least they should do is answer the patch notes' thread when some significant update is made. So many things could have been better if we could at least see some real reasoning behind it... (Shard bomb fiasco, SL's release with keys from lockboxes, Mist Well not being controllable at all, Arcade's death uppon mission release, ...).

This thread made me depressed. I wish OOO would give us some feedback or insight into what they are doing and stop making weird, seemingly poorly-thought-out decisions.

The problem isn't that the devs are unable to fix the arcade; its that they are trying to phase it out of existence in favor of the mission system.

If you honestly want to try to get the game back from what its became, you'd have to convince the devs into it. I wrote a guide about how you could do that a while ago, but I'd rather not link to it. Besides, the devs are doing much better than they were back then- they've been making legitimate content and the likes without turning major content into money grabs.

There is nothing wrong with endless promotional items. They help the devs get the money that they need to make the game/pay SEGA if applicable.

The devs don't have to talk to us about these things, nor would it necessarily be appropriate for them to do so. And really, lets say that SEGA is evil here: OOO can't go on a rant in general about them, they'd lose their job. Not that SEGA IS necessarily evil. In the scenario described above, they bought OOO to help them out of debt. We really don't know who it is that wants the game to become a theme park rather than a sandbox MMO, which is what it all boils down to.

no one else has got a material proof?

sorry if someone else has said this before; I didn't saw that.
it's since I saw the full "map" of a gate that I think that the core will eventually open. when I first reached the core terminal I forgot it, but I'll try remembering next time.
see any "map" of a gate. scroll down to the bottom. in the lower right angle you'll see a 30. that is a depth 30. which actually means that they are going to get something about the core, or at least they have thought so.
but think about it. how much effort is to reskin the map? they reskinned lots of things. so, why not erasing that 30? keep our hopes on? it does not work, since no one else got this.

How do we know that they

How do we know that they arent working on a manor update or a complete ovehaul to the arcade. As someone else mentioned, its a small team. But they are getting more money, getting more staff and standards rise. Especially the latter may cause a major update to take longer than usual to achieve their visions more accuratly than the game is since launch.

Whatsup with all the pessemism?

We don't know that they're not going to update the arcade and everything. While they haven't told us anything, they could be keeping us in the dark. This is why we have to speculate about these kinds of things. They are a small team, and there is a possibility that they are working on something like arcade reform, or the core, but that too would be speculation, and my sources say non. Why?

1. The next "big update" is the pets/battle sprites thing, in which Proffessor Oak allows us to choose between squirtle, the dark magician and Drakon.
2. There has been no mention of arcade reform, or development of the core, on the part of the developers.
3. The most recent hints suggest some kind of buff to guardian armor and equipment at some point in the near future.
4. There is no solid proof that the devs are making anything core related. There are possibilities for some kind of hint at a recent development relating to the core, but nothing solidly relating directly to the core.

This pessimism, is based entirely on facts and observations, which have lent themselves to speculation, which like you said, it is still speculation. The core could be announced to-morrow, but again, non.

Actually, if they would be doing all that they would be teasing about it since quite a while ago. Remember how they added photos and teasers of features such as Mission Mode, Guild Hall or the actual Battle Sprites - even if the estimated release date is in SIX MONTHS?

If there was something, anything of a hint of a very big update coming by, they would have already gone far and beyond of advertising it. I don't really think there is going to be in half a year any interesting content. Because come on, this Kataclysmic thing was a timed event full of grinding and was advertised like it may have been a new actual boss, with a promo similar to Roarmulus Twins - and it was, only that for two weeks and no dungeon!
