These new player hp things are going to take up the entire screen.... even more than usual. It does look kinda cheap as well. The monster bars will just clutter and probably lag as well. And getting rid of the weapon icon in favor of something popping over your head... Wow... You'd think a two year old game would actually think about releasing new CONTENT, not endless cosmetics and noob-centered changes to things like this and pets.

The only thing I maybe like about this is the boss health bar, since I tend to lose track of how far Vana is along when in a bad PUG.

For making huge health bars easier to read for both yourself and other teammates
For adding a shield health indicator
For adding monster locations on the minimap
For adding health bars on enemies (you didn't have to put it above them, but whatever, helps the new ones I guess)
For making enemy health bars fade quickly away on distance to prevent clutter
For turning the current weapon icon into a circular selector
For making the heat icon more descriptive

All these ideas were suggested in the suggestion forums and have now come true :3

-How exactly am I supposed to tell what my max hp is now?
-If it overlaps, when can I know I've maxed out? Secondly, crowns and my energy meter have both vanished?
-And why in the world do I need a giant me on the screen other than to slow me down any further?
-And what of the possibility of having teammates? How will that fit into this new design?
-What can be guaranteed about the new shield health bar? What happens when it runs out?
-This whole circular weapon display that pops up when I switch weapons, will it be animated as to rotating as I pick out my new weapon? How much will that lag me when I start quickly filing through that just to reach my correct weapon?

Top Left Corner

  • I think the old health bar is still as good as it is. Though positioning-wise, it does block the bottom of the screen.
  • The new "knight" display on the top left corner has got to show something, if not it just stands there and stares into your soul, and it ain't good.
  • Is that a shield-health bar i see? I rather it not appear there, and let players rely on the old shield color to determine its health.
  • What is this silver/gold plating over health bars? Some sort of fail-safe, just in case a lumber deals a deathly blow and that silver-plated health bars get a second chance to prove itself?
  • Our knight name is up there too? Like we don't know our knight names :P Just hinting
  • The health bar is terribly long, I hope the middle part can still be free from any display that obscures

Top Right Corner

  • Map interface still there, ping bar there, no changes, no comments
  • An enemy health bar? You serious? Despise! Despise! NO to enemy health bar, not to mention mentioning their weakness
  • Besides, which enemy will be targeted, when there are so many monsters on the screen. The enemy display will just go flickering

Bottom of the Screen

  • Thumbs up for all the little buttons to go down there. I'm just okay with it, but I still use keyboard buttons. Is that a, hide button I see? Cool.
  • I see the toolbelt has been given a polished waxing, no comments.

Questions

  • What is the silver/gold plating that Nick has raised about
  • Why do you want to turn the entire Hud upside down, except for the minimap.
  • Can we have color schemes included, such as a aromatic green, or a burning red, or an dark essence color scheme?
  • I see another hide button at the top right corner, what is it?
  • What happen to the danger indicator?
  • Are there any changes made? Player display, Inventory display, etc.

I think the shield health is a good addition, especially for shields with larger amounts of health, and being able to tell if a shield is broken without resorting to raising it

Its to fix the stupidity of "You have 50 health bars? Oh lets just make them really really tiny so you can't differentiate between them"
It will also be applied to other party members so you can tell how much health players have if more than 20.

What happen to the danger indicator?

Hmmm...

Not everyone likes changes, even though everyone is suggesting changes in the first place... Anyways.. I'll be honest on how I feel about this.

So far, some of the new UI is a bit better and some of it doesn't "turn my gears around" it. It's missing that "Clockworks" feel to the game. From the top left and right, they are completely removed. I know it's a cosmetic thing, but to be honest, it's something that makes it very iconic to this MMO because it's all about the "Clockworks".

The colors in the new UI seem too vibrant. Not everything needs to be a big explosion of HUDs in your face. This design is decent but lacks that "bit" coloring to it that most of us are used to, even for us veterans and new knights who may be used to it. Some may not agree to me but these are opinions.

I noticed that the chat bar is gone now.. Are they possibly making it so that we can make our own private chat tabs? Cause I've been actually wanting something like this for awhile. Sure hope it's similar to another MMORPG I played a long time ago during beta. Granted it never had it before until later patches which implemented it. If anyone had played Ragnarok Online then i sure hope it's similar to their system.
I can only assume that the tabs on the bottom left of the UI will have something to where if you maximize it, you might get a chat dialog bubble from the friend list if one of them are talking to ya, whilst knowing who the person is talking to you. Either it's a friend or another knight just asking you questions.

The other thing I'm noticing is that the Crowns and Crystal Energy bars are gone. I can see a tab on the top right corner by the map radar and I'm assuming it's for crowns alone or can be for a combo of both CR and CE together. I don't see a problem hiding your currency as it can be in the way sometimes, but never really was an issue when it was on the bottom right corner of your screen the whole time.

The new HP bars are something that can help the new knights that land on cradle, though the design seem a tad big. The HP bar on the enemies are fine but the excess on the extra bar that shows on the top right is somewhat rough and out of place with their design. we already know that the enemies show a slight aura of their attack base, which is showing yellow, indicating that it is piercing. For better visual effect that isn't out of place to know what they are up against, you might want to merge the damage indicator to the radar being on the left corner of the map. This indicator will be simplified and not have to be something that always pops up. I don't think we might want to be reminded a lot with a swarm of enemies popping up on the top of the screen. There shoud also be a Health Indicator lock button to enable or disable this feature.
I'm sure yall have already planed a key combination in your settings to enable or disable features that we might not like.

I can only say that since we aren't knowing too much from this image, we can only make assumptions on what we can do with this new UI.

Anyway... This new UI is promising, but it lacks that feel and simplicity the old UI still has. What is old can be used with the new.

What the Vog is this?! Why?! Why this now?! Seriously... I'm disappointed. The current UI is completely fine, although with some glitches. Just why don't you concentrate on the main thing: Content. You can't find this word in your dictionary, can you? Why going downhill more and more? Why listening to the crappy, nubbish ideas and ignoring the heck of all other decent suggestions here? I just can't understand the reason behind this... Are you running out of ideas? Is Luguiru speaking the truth about that calender? I looks reasonable to me after this MASSIVE UPDATE. No, I'm not hating, but... I'm just disappointed with you Nick. Try focusing on LD toggling system and lobbies - Weapons and Armors balancing - Finishing Sprites faster - Glorps, Dust Bunnies and Scarabs etc... These would have made the community much happier, at least in my opinion.

Guess it is time to pack my bags and take a good rest from this game...

I'm glad I quit supporting this game with money about half a year ago and haven't regretted my choice yet.

I can't be bothered to type anymore.. its late at night and my chest aches from being sick. I just hope a lot of this stuff comes with off buttons. Or an option to use the old UI.

Only good thing I see is -maybe- the boss HP bar for new players that can't tell when the boss is about to drop from constantly fighting the same boss over... and over... and over.. and did I mention over again?

These horrible icons are killing the whole graphical style, that i love in SK.

Health bar and avatar... um... so you say, that it would eat a lot of space in full party. And LD. For what? O_o
Display of weakness for the monsters... oh come on! Easier for beginners, now they do not have to think. Totally!

If i would want to play in one of these identical crappy MMO, I'll do it. But I want to play SK!

Do not mutilate the game. Please.

Only good idea is the creatures HP bar but that one sucks too. Sorry but this is my opinion only I hope that there will be an option to switch back to the old UI else I will just quit this game too.

first the top left corner.
Knights avatar, what are we playing? doom 2? are we gonna see our knight do a bunch of distracting faces? OOO seems to like 3d previews of things, looking like a spiralspy collage everywhere you go; it was useful in the auction house, the inventory; hell, even the guild hall, but don't you guys think this is pushing things too far? Have you even thought of consulting the public before deciding on this interface? I mean, i know the test server is there for a reason but this has to be an april fools joke, seriously.

The shield bar is useless, the colors were perfectly fine, it's one of the things that made the game somewhat unique from other mmo's, i can't even justify this being a way to make "younger players more comfortable" as almost all of them don't even know how to use a shield in the first place (well golly gee, i just gave you guys an idea for a tutorial, you know? learning how to SHIELD BUMP THINGS!?)

health bar and title, while the positioning is not THAT bad (i'd rather keep it at the bottom and have vitapod on top but whatevs), i rather still keep the old one, just fix the glitches and add a bit of finish to it, this just looks like it came out of a mid 90's street fighter, cheap and corny, the percentage is also completely useless.

bottom left menu, sorry guys, this was better on the top left, if it was circles instead of rounded rectangles in this style, even better! top left and like that would be just fine, i hope they don't lag anymore and seeing that they're retractable is a GREAT idea.

center bottom should be at the top, i said that before.

bottom right should be at the top, i hate it at the bottom, it's just out of the way for me; I'll make you a deal OOO, give us the option to move our hud around and remove elements of it, please!

top right map is fine, as long as i can expand it if needed (showing what ive already seen of course)

alright time for the last few things.

monster healthbars, theyre a bit intrusive but I'll deal with it, I assume theres a setting to turn them off.

monster bar with weakness? NOPE, way too big.

if you ask me, it just looks like you guys found a reason to add a bunch of bitmaps to make the game even slower and more annoying, if any of the past updates are an indicator, we are in for more lag and a worse playing experience.

Love to see something change, the UI has been untouched since the Missions came in. It was needed.

Vials/Pots/Vita rework: Great! New texture is always welcomed.

For me new texture is new content, whether you like it or not, the new UI is a content update.

Shield Bar: FINALLY! Jeesus I always wonder how much Vanaduke slams hits and how much % my Volcanic Plate Shield has after that smash. Yes it does not matter for low weak shield, but it does for higher defense one with normal UV on it.

HP Bar: Doesn't take as much space as the old one use to. Although the party knights icon might change my POV on that.

Mini Map: can see mobs in it! yay! +a bagillion likes

Boss HP Bar! OMG it's so great people have to pick on the fact you show the weakness, which is a niche feature IMO for newcomer and will be ignored later on, like that danger dot was... At first you are like "ooohhh I'm in a danger zone, it's purple!" and then you are like "What does it says? Danger? hah! I can do it with my 2* mule"

The new UI looks horrible. Especially those terrible "crystal" pick-ups belt icons. Really those 3D vials icon looks so 90's. It looks like Vista, when we have Windows 8. Nobody told you that such crystal, cheap, flashy 3D buttons are tottaly outdated?! SK had such a style. I mean seriously, it looks almost as bad as WoW graphic design. SK had one of best art on the market. And those gargantuan portraits?!!!! What for?!!! And why pick-ups belt was removed to bottom part of the screen?!!! To look more like any other MMO out there? Pathetic. As a pro graphic designer I can only guess it must have been something like THIS

Showing monster's health and weakness? I totally understand why you're doing it, but I though better of SK. Now you're merging with crowd. Was anything wrong? Why change something that wasn't broken?! I could have accept bosses health bars, but a health bar for every single monster is a huge turn off for me. And Shield health?!!! What for? We had sphere colour indicated how much health left. Wasn't it enough? And showing monster's weakness? Are your players really THAT dumb? What's next? Maybe auto-selecting weapon from arsenal to deal "right" kind of damage.

Anyway I wish you good luck with SK and your new playerbase. I was hyped for BS and new mobs but I'm not any more.
I was with you since beta, but even though new UI may not be a game-breaking issue for most gamers, it is for me.
Unless three biggest mistakes (monster health bars, crappy vial icons, gargantuan portraits) can be disable.

ok, time to get another opinion in.
top left: shows your name, rank, prestige level, health, your max health (that 75%), your shield health, your heat.
questions:
why should it be important to know my rank and prestige level? will this apply to all party members?
why the % thing? why not a number? you really think that the average player will do calculations on his health?
please don't tell me the shield bar is going to change color, because that thing yellow, flashing yellow is going to make me mad.

top right: shows ping, minimap, that now displays enemies, and even where are you facing (it's not a circle anymore!), an enemy heath bar with damage type dealt and weakness, something hidden, maybe crowns, ce, or your mission.
questions:
first, mini jellies will now have shadow weakness?
did we really need to know about what damage they deal and what are their weaknesses? wiki exists, you know.
I see that the monsters health on the field can be hidden (way more transparent). will this be time related, or there will be targets? if so, what can you target?

bottom: the things that now are on the top: charachter, loadouts, arsenal, social, friends, uplink, help, options, vials, and vitapod.
questions: what is that +13 vitapod?
new vials images: only in the bar or on the ground too?
why that guy has 2 normal shock vials in RJP?
4 slimes? weren't they 3 once?

Just that most people don't like change, what would happened if Luguiru became normal the next day? you would hate it! Every time I see a Big Change or a Rework, almost everybody complains!

Embrace it, and add an option to go back to the old UI for those people who hate change

I personally hope the health

I personally hope the health bars (at least the ones above the enemies' heads) can be turned off. There seems to be a fair bit of completely useless data and a lack of important data on the screen. Namely your knight's name above their health bar (which you should know), their rank (which is honestly useless once you're anywhere except Haven), and the lack of the Energy Bar and crowns.

I do not foresee the enemy health bar at the top of screen being useful for anything other than bosses. On regular levels a lot of the time you multi-hit, meaning it is either going to flicker between enemies so fast you can't see anything, or its going to just stick to whichever you hit first/last. Also will it show enemy player HP in LD?

Does the knight at the top left do anything? Or am I going to just have my pig-tailed helm staring at me all the time?

Enemies now show on the mini-map. Whether I am for or against this depends on one thing. Does it show cloaked enemies such as Ghostmane Stalkers and Chromas? If it does than it is broken by default. The entire purpose of an enemy that can cloak is so that they can sneak up on you, which they can't do if the map shows them. Also will it show enemies players in LD/BN?

Going to have to actually see the weapon switching before I know if I think it's better or not.

Honestly to be more specific, I don'tcare how it looks. I'm not a design kind of guy but overall visually I think it looks fine.
Yes I do think the original design fits the game more, but design is something i don't care about

What really bothers me is those healthbars on enemies and weaknesses. Keep those hidden. Not as an option, but keep them hidden period

It's the reason I love monster hunter right now. The game has a similar crafting system to this game. But no monster has health bars which makes the fights more intense. Beside that, finding out all the ins and out is part of the fun. Whether its by talking to an NPC, or going through the depths(like i did). Remove this 3 rings.

I don't hate the new UI, in fact I think its kinda nice and fresh. My only complaint is that yes, it is a bit cluttered.

Three rangs, how about you allow us to customize the UI, such as if I wanted to remove monster health bars, there could be an option to turn it off (like a checkbox or something), or if I wanted to customize the screen entirely, I could enter unlock the UI and be able to click and scroll it anywhere I liked it, for example moving the health-bar to the bottom right, and maybe also adjust the size a bit. I think that would satisfy a few other players.

If not, well, good job anyways :>.

Is the HUD shown inside customizable? Like, change sizes for certain hud items, repositioning them?
I think some items (like the health bar and the portrait) are covering up a bit too much of the screen and it makes it annoying to look through them.

I like the new buttons below and the minimap as well, but I'm going to miss the original icons for consumables. I understand it wouldn't fit with the changes from the HUD, but the icons like these just aren't quite the style I love.

I do think the additional health section for monsters inside of the HUD is unnecessary when you're already supporting a health bar on top of an enemy's head. The little details mentioned in that health bar are making the game less challenging though, I guess. I'd only use that health bar in cases where a player has to battle a boss.

I myself wouldn't even like a health bar, I don't know the proper damage I require to make in order to kill a monster. For the bosses, I don't really matter to have one.

Nice idea though, but could still use some work.

For all the extra fluff added, did anyone else notice some information that got removed in this UI? The icon showing your currently equipped weapon is gone. I was hoping some element on the UI could show all your weapons so you could manage having four weapon slots more easily.

Instead we get an entirely useless icon in the top left showing a mugshot of yourself.

If they do this to Lockdown there will be no more bluffing, so if you have low health they are going to see it, and try take out what little health you have left instead of trying to avoid you. Looks good but I think this is better suited for Clockworks and not PvP. but that is just my 2 cents......

I have a good idea!

Why don't they make it easy for the community to make their own HUDs?

Idk, like a mod system or something? What I mean is so you can change the colors and such...not really rearrange things. Sorta like Personas in browsers. I'm not sure...this setup looks promising for customization. Some people will want a tabs on the left and right to be balanced, and others will want all their buttons on one pull-out.

My guess is that HP bars won't show up in LD. You are fighting players who are a special case, as far as I'm concerned. It would be strange to see HP in BN, too.

Ok, now I do have a gripe...if they make it so you can see people on the map in LD, including cloaked ones, I'm putting my Flamberge down.

Can't tell if people are legitimately concerned or just grasping at straws for the sake of argument when they complain about things that are purely speculation as of now. This isn't even in the game yet, give it until it's here before you start ranting about seeing opponents on the mini-map in Lockdown, player-health bars, or even the removal of the currently-equipped weapon icon and whatnot. It's amazing how the lack or presence of a few details on a preview picture can spark the wildest theories. Just give it a rest already.

On second thought, I am also skeptical about the self portrait thing at the upper left corner. Is this really necessary? I could see someone in SK Dev (Ian?) wants us to love our knights more so we would buy accessories and decorate him / her. But do we have to stare at our knight even more to get that effect? And how can you be sure that would not achieve the opposite effect, that we get tired of looking at our knight and stop buying useless accessories / cosmetic items altogether?

Too much is not good, you know. And when it comes to HUD design, I'm all for efficiency > aesthetic. If this new HUD turns out to be lagging even on modern hardware, it has to go back to drawing board.

Note: this is not a shard bomb thing in which you can push the new stuff down the community without any kind of hedging against the risk of new feature not well received. In the shard bomb fiasco, people learn to *not* to use your new feature and live along. In this HUD thing, if people are not happy about it and you do *not* have a backup plan, people will stop playing because it would only make SK even less interesting.

What does the rest of the party's heath look like? I hope it doesn't look the same as ours, or it would take up the whole screen.

Also, this is a personal thing, but I'm not too fond of the new aesthetic. Too bubbly :P

I completely agree with you. Guys, its not even in the game yet. Just wait until the update comes out, and then see what you think about it. A single image should not be taken seriously until the actual UI comes out and we've had a chance to at least test it out. It might even be a April Fool's Joke, for all I know.

Nope, it's not an April Fool's joke. Its release will come after April 1.

As the saying goes, "nobody likes change except a baby with a wet bottom," and it's hard to get a feel for UI changes without test driving them. It'll be interesting to see what the feedback is a couple weeks after release, when everyone's had a chance to play with the new UI in place for a while. We'll also be collecting data on what effects the UI changes have on player behavior over time.

@Zeddy: The "Current Weapon" icon shows up when you switch. Nick mentioned it earlier.

That said, what would really be cool is if a 3d model of your weapon was rendered in that spot with your mugshot, with translucent models of the next and previous weapons diagonally of, or below/above, that model.

@eurydice ^Well if that's the mentality you wanna have, without even slightly doubting the possibility that it's not "just" people not liking change, but perhaps the change may not be a good one, then fine.

I've been part of great communities lately with gamedevs taking their loyal gamers seriously. It's easy to divide idiotic feedback from the reasonable. If it's not possible for 3 rings to do that, then too bad. I guess that's all I wanted to say. I'll see how it turns out, but I still stand by what I said about the displayed information like health and weaknesses on enemies. It's a very subtle thing but I know I preferred the way it was for reasons i've stated already.

Please don't interpret my little turn of phrase above to mean "100% of your complaints are only because you don't like change." That is not what I said.

I specifically stated that we were going to be looking to see what your feedback is, and what the data says, over time. We do that because we do care. Otherwise we wouldn't bother, and I wouldn't have bothered posting anything in this thread at all! :)

Fair enough eury. Just wanna make clear that i've been here from day one and that I found most of the updates totally reasonable. From the energy cost increase to the craftbinding. I wouldn't be complaining for the sake of complaining unless I feel things are going backwards. For example we can all acknowledge that the arcade feels out of place now and needs revamping. Hopefully thats part of the new big update. Looking forward to that at least
