I've played the actual game after quite a while and got lucky too. Got spark and eternal I think.

Once (long long ago) I got 4 sparks from 4 successive depths, 1 spark from each depth.

While yes, it is, it isn't that big of an issue. At least I got used to it. But I would lie if I told you I'm using level 1 5* gear, I usually have things around level 5, but still. I guess I stopped worrying about dealing less damage than I potentially could, heh.

I remember when I started playing this game I was playing almost exclusively alone. I tried to complete all of the missions myself without any help from the others. I remember I had to go with some party for mission The Sovereign Slime, because I wasn't able to deal enough damage to the boss. I tried to kill all the turrets and then the boss, but the turrets were respawning too quickly in the third phase. I eventually started playing in parties more and I think it was better than going solo, especially in parties that talk. But you can't do all your solo things, like breaking every block, sometimes collecting minerals etc. because you don't want to slow down your party. Heh, but I believe that you as a bomber don't bother with breaking every block in the level.

I *was* a bomber (Ze-Epik) but it's transitioned into more of an all-rounder class. (got Shivermist, DR and Spike Shower, have a Blitz and going for some swords)
My second knight is indeed Cyan-Shot, who's basically an exclusive gunner. (using Raptor, Black Chaingun and Fusion Blaster)

@Pi: To be honest one of the main reasons I use the DR is less because of its power as a weapon and more because it makes blocks and minerals easier to break. That and a Seraphynx.

Sometimes I use my Troika for explosive blocks.
