Chapter 5

"You know, we barely get to spend any time together because you're always on duty, Ikaros." Phaeton sighed. He absentmindedly fiddled with the bright blue feathers on a little Snipe that walked by. It chirped in protest and flew away, but Phaeton didn't really care.

Ikaros frowned at her friend, a failed attempt at cloning the Valkyroids. She knew he was different and strange, but that didn't stop her from becoming his friend. She looked him up and down, taking in his pale, flawless complexion, -then again, Valkyroids were robots; they didn't get blemishes- his stunning hazel eyes, and his neatly kept shirt and trousers.

She pouted, clearly upset as well. "Sorry, Phae-kun, but I have orders. As much as I want to disobey them, I can't. I'll make it up to you!"

Phaeton scoffed in disdain. "Oh really? Good luck with-" he was cut off as Ikaros' pecked his cheek lightly. Her soft, warm lips filled his thoughts until his previous worries melted away.

"That good enough for you?" Ikaros joked.

"Umm... Uh... Err... What?" Phaeton stammered. Whatever he was thinking of earlier, he'd forgotten it.

Ikaros giggled like a giddy schoolgirl and smiled, "Okay, bye Phaeton! I'll be back soon!" With that, Ikaros' massive, majestic wings flew open and beat the air, and within seconds, all that was left was a trail of wind.

Phaeton didn't think it was possible, but it happened.

As soon as Ikaros was out of sight, he fainted.

This was more of a filler chapter to introduce Phaeton into the story. Don't worry, I should have another chapter up within the next 3 weeks -don't hate on me, I'm busy. I have a life, too.

Anybody got a name for Phaeton's kind? I'm not sure what to call them.

In addition, I might occasionally ask you guys for ideas to get the story going should I develop writer's block... Again.

Phaeton can be called...

Phaeton's kind, if you wish to categorize him, would be among the "spin-offs". They aren't Valkyroids, although they might or might not resemble one type or the other. Phaeton, however, is unique in the sense that he employs phantasmal wings, unlike the Valkyroids.

Waking up.

"Are you well, my lady?" Lucifer asked as Hera got up.

She was dressed in what she recognized as Luke's Darkness, or Void. A durable regalia that would defend against normal and weather-wear, but was in turn more susceptible to tears from pointed objects. She could feel some strength returning to her, but she suspected it was the regenerative capabilites of said suit that had improved her well-being.

Luke himself, however, was clad rather oddly. A grey tank-top and a pair of black trousers were all that covered him, and she identified a few nodes on his shoulder. It gave the impression he was a sort of construct, but he wasn't quite Valkyroid. It was something...off about him.

Hera nodded, and looked about her. A dim, moldy room contained a couch, a broken screen, and a door to walk in and out of. Hera was lying down on a mattress years ahead of its warranty. Rot and misery were the evoked emotions from the room.

"Where are we? We had an apartment room..."

"...which was shortly found not too long after Khan betrayed us. I encountered a Delta on the way..."

"Did you dispose of it?"

Lucifer shifted aside for Hera to set her eyes upon Critz, the flightless Delta.

"Why did you hesitate?"

"She helped us. Though, not directly. I located her living quarters, and decided that we should settle down here for the moment. I should at least spare her for her assistance..."

"I'll have none of it!" vehemently whispered the Omega, her face contorted with an enraged expression. "If she wakes, she'll still be a danger to us!"

"I stole her armament systems. Discarded her weapons that I don't use, save for this cannon."

"Her strength alone would mea-"

"Mean death? Certainly not so, milady."

"Stop calling me that."

"Anyhow, I assumed we could override her systems, make her one of us."

"Possible, but a counter override would easily be doable in the heat of battle. We wouldn't have the manpower to maintain our authority over while killing those who would seek us."

Lucifer sighed, and looked at the Delta again.

"But she was nice."

At this, Hera slapped him in the face, although it felt more like a punch than a disciplinary tease.

"Y-you...f-filth!"

"What do you mean by that?" Lucifer innocently asked, truly ignorant of what he had just said, "She was nice enough to not drag me into prison when I first met her in the morni-"

Another strike.

"You allowed yourself to be seen?! What in the world were you...what? WHY?!"

"I...needed some time away from everything..."

Hera raised her hand for another strike, but stopped after taking a deep breath.

"Overwrite her memories of us. Make sure you never met. By the way, how did you get her here?"

Lucifer placed both of his hands on his waist, and jutted out his elbows. "Like two barrels."

"Did anyone see us?"

"I was cloaked," her servant replied as he spun her around. Slowly, he rested his fingers on the brain stem, and a few fibers sprung out, and weaved to make a sort of cable. Lights pulsated through it again and again, and that was all. He was done.

Chapter 6

Ikaros grumbled slightly as she was walked onto one of the Skylark's last remaining helicopters by Ozlo. The helis were supposedly ancient, primitive relics of battle from over four hundred years ago, but they were extremely effective since, unlike a plane , they needed no runway and could take off instantly. In addition, they had the ability to hover in midair. You could see why their design was so brilliant.

Although the Skylark's engineers had apparently upgraded and redesigned the heli, Ikaros found the machinery of the thing quite... Dull. That is, in comparison to her own inner mechanisms.

Ikaros' thoughts were interrupted as she was shoved into a chair. She glared up at Ozlo, her eyes blazing with vehement rage. The commander merely shrugged and smiled innocently, "You wouldn't sit, so I made you sit." Turning to the others on board, he said, "You know what you're here for. We're going to the scene of the attack, gathering evidence, getting testimonies from the Gremlin survivors, and putting everything together. I don't know about you, but I'm itching to find out what killed those Gremmies. Now, if you'll excuse me, we'll be going."

With that, Ozlo silently slipped into the cockpit of the helicopter.

Ikaros gave a pained smile to the others on board and proceeded to examine them more closely. There was a shy looking, stoutly built Delta in one corner of the room, fidgeting inside of her Surge costume.

Ikaros looked the Delta up and down, amazed by every detail of her mechanical body. The Valkyroid's dark blue shades matched the eerie glow of her halo quite well. A bandolier filled with bombs fell loosely around her waist, and her very being emanated a phantom-like aura. She sported an enormous cannon on her right shoulder that, from the looks of it, fired 105mm Tungsten rounds. Her forearms were lankier and longer than those of the average Isoran or Valkyroid, and two mechanical poles jutted out from her shoulder blades, most likely to provide support for the cannon. Ikaros smiled kindly at the Delta, and was rewarded with a rosy blush.

Next, she turned her attention to a Zenithos Valkyroid that was casually sharpening a large knife on his metallic gauntlet. He was a darker-than-dark shade of indigo, and his blazing emerald eyes darted about the room suspiciously, while his mouth was set in a determined scowl. He nodded his acknowledgement and respect as a fellow Valkyroid to her, but frowned in disdain at Talekot and the other four Isoran scientists on board.

Ikaros quickly nodded back to him out of sheer manners, then shifted her gaze. She stared at a very sour-looking Valkyroid, what appeared to be a Gamma.

He had dark, spiky black hair that flopped down over his right eye, golden eyes that resembled thick, viscous amber. He sported a very devilish-looking brandish that emanated a faint trail of viral, corrupted computer data from its fiery red tip. Ikaros' processing unit struggled to even endure looking at the blade. It occurred to her that Gammas, and not Zenithoses, were actually the most powerful Valkyroids.

Wrapped around the Gamma's wrist was a nightmarish black gauntlet that also emanated a faint trail of hacked data. His helmet resembled a heavily armored Crusader's helm, but instead of snow white, it was smeared with black and red paint. A helm mounted display covered his right eye, and Ikaros could faintly make out the stream of data the display was, well, displaying to the Gamma.

The Gamma's armor resembled a Flak Jacket, but was a far more sinister color. It was more heavily padded than the normal flak jacket, and like the rest of his gear, gave off a stream of indecipherable computer data. Ikaros tried to wave at the Gamma in greeting, but received a mere glare of irritation from him.

Slightly miffed at the Gamma's bad manners, Ikaros gave a happy grin to Talekot when she saw him. He wore his usual rimmed, rectangular glasses and bleach-white lab coat. His slick black hair was immaculately combed, as always, and the stubble on his chin gave him that sort of I-haven't-shaved-for-weeks-but-I-still-look-awesome sort of appearance that Ikaros usually only saw in movie stars. Tale smiled back at her, and Ikaros felt her reactor pulsing uncomfortably. What was this weird feeling? Why did she feel like this whenever she was near Tale? It's so strange...

Ikaros spent the two hours it took to get to the remains of the Gremlin camp thinking of nothing but Talekot.
