Aren't you guys glad you can turn off the "comicify" option in game? I'd really like to thank the devs for making that, for I am oft to speak as a pirate might. It really makes me smile, knowing that I can use such language between my friends! What do you guys think about the in-game chat filter, and the immense freedom of speech we hold whilst playing Spiral Knights?

At least they gave us the freedom to speak

Using whatever language we like, minus a list of words that are banned completely! Truly a gift.

But some words make your sentences get dropped no matter what your settings are. Mentioning the multiplication of our species where one of the people involved didn't quite agree to the action being taken or refering to people much less pale than myself are examples of this.

Well yeah, forced cloning and being shaded 100% black with a sharpy are terrible things and should never be discussed while playing vidya games.

This game is supposed to be

This game is supposed to be forbidden to players who are under 13, so I'm still trying to figure out why they are so severe on supposedly foul language, why make it a place safe for little kids if they are not supposed to play this game anyways? It is the only game I've played that is trying so hard to control and take actions against bad but often harmful words, even myself, despite rarely using them got many warning and even a ban...Idiotic system if you ask me and makes the game childish, no wonder I've never managed to make any of my 250 steam friends play the game more than ten minutes.

Just recently got back in the game with one of my cool alts, which I wanted to focus on to make it my new main, named "Pervert-Herbert", they changed it to "Herberts", question, why allowing to use the word pervert in the character creation then? I thought there was a direct censorship for the forbidden words to use directly during that process? While I understand some words can't be used in a nick, is this one that problematic? I think it was pretty funny and original...And of course, contacting the mods to get it at least changed to something less ridiculous than "Herberts" got me zero answers. Thanks 000, so much for an attempt at coming back, was even about to pour some money in, but you reminded me how terrible this game is handled sometimes and why I left in the first place. So long triple zero, oh and if you are trying to get me a warning and rename my nick for using that so utterly shocking word "pervert", suit yourself, this account I never use anyways, actually I don't play at all :D

@Travelliath When you started

@Travelliath When you started that sentence, I thought you were going to mak a Dos Aquis joke.

Another idiotic, brainless thread....which is why I am here!

I agree, I enjoy the ability to say what you want. But if the game is 13+, I do agree that they shouldn't be hard on pirates. Besides, most people probably know almost all or all swearwords by the age of 10 or so unless you live under a rock.

Last thing. Anyone else sorta suspicious of Hyperion's reaction to Hamster's rage post? People who respond like that are either dumber than a mule, or just don't care. And since mules, as far as we know, can't program, let alone type, I would like to agree with the latter option, which pretty much explains OOO's attitude in a pistachio shell. Sucks for them, who knew they aren't interested in making money. But to each person their own, I guess.

For the record, I was making

For the record, I was making sure he saw the response - he'd obviously missed it when we sent it to him, and we want to make sure people see the answers to the questions they ask privately. I definitely can't program, though! Fortunately, that's not my job.

If you're referring to my lack of response to the actual discussion topic, so far everybody's been polite to each other and I didn't see a need to step in; that being said, there are a lot of adults and older minors who prefer not to see obscene language, so we have the filters on by default. We also are aware that there are people who prefer to see their words exactly as they type them, which is why there is an option to turn the filter off. There's a third group (in which I'm included) who find the random outbursts of punctuation funny. If you'd like to courteously discuss racial concerns, you'll find that you're entirely able to do so provided you don't use derogatory slurs; likewise, you'll find that terms that aren't incorrectly frequently used as slurs like their more common synonyms are also not filtered. This is consistent with our terms of service, and with those of a lot of online games. If anything I've said's unclear or you feel it requires more explanation, please feel free to contact us via the support page, and we'll be happy to clarify it for you.

Well...wasn't expecting that.

Well...wasn't expecting that. Now i feel bad... Thanks for clearing it up. Now I know to blame the programmers for the rage updates instead of everyone at OOO.

So older people who are not inclined to using or hearing/seeing vulgarity are the reason for anti-pirate features and rules.
One last thing, what racial slur did I use? The Dos Aquis thing was a reference to a commercial, and mules aren't humans? O.o

And I don't need to contact you guys about anything regarding this thread, but rather a different question regarding content posted. The only reason I am saying this is because I would like to have a response before the patch so I can put the videos with questionable content up. Thanks!

No-Thanks
usb

always had censors off
after warnings turned them to maximum(block/prevent)
after warnings for "BYPASSING"(yea im srs) only ignore lists helped out

i wouldnt say censorship is dead wrong, its just handled without much thought

wonder how hyperion manages to be so calm, id be raging like a swarm of killer bees
nice hyper :o

My comment about racial slurs

My comment about racial slurs was in response to a different post further up in the thread, Voza-Il, no worries!

I should try Dos Equis sometime.

What do you mean "fortunately that isn't my job"? Programming is fun, its like building something out of text with processes, and it actually results in something real happening when you get it right... you should totally learn some time. It'd be an honour to get to program things for games that actually get played lol.

One thing I've always wondered would be why the racial slurs are always blocked, I'm not saying to just include them in with the others, but there are some contexts for words in that list that don't exactly infringe anyone's rights. That these words are used is not Spiral Knight's fault, it is societies fault, but Spiral Knights must to some extent conform to society... For example:

"Oh wow, that group of slags just ?????ed me."

Could be filled with the first phrase Zeddy hinted at- forced cloning, when carried out in a number of people also known as a gang. It'd be nice if you could check a box allowing you to lump the truly awful in with the rest, should you not wish to be forced to be a decent non-terrible person. Because it feels kind of intrusive, when a message I type, or typed, as I'm now used to avoiding using that list while playing Spiral Knights, is censored. And wow, they're right, I DO over-use commas. Shame on me.

Other than that one small issue, and it really isn't such a big deal, I love the comicify system thing though.

I'd also like to thank the devs for that.

"We also are aware that there are people who prefer to see their words exactly as they type them, which is why there is an option to turn the filter off."

Word filters sometimes make it unclear what some one said. Even when it's apparently the expletive use of a word, which word was used often conveys both quantitative and qualitative information about the emphasis the speaker intends to convey. As such, I greatly value the ability to leave incoming text unfiltered, since I tend to hang out with peops who share my attitude that "bad things to say" are not words, but uses. If it were available, the option I'd select would be "highlight," so I can have an unobtrusive reminder from the chat interface to help me remember which words (both when I and when others use them) have fun new connotations I ought be aware of and should avoid for compatibility reasons.

Post-Script,

Speaking of words vs. uses and suggestions, the exact definition delineating what does and does not constitute [redacted*] has a wide variety of values, and some definitions are very offensive to some peops, including myself. Be mindful.

*Hey, is Censortron active on the forums, or not?

Alright, I didn't receive anything though, just checked again. But If you guys didn't ignore me as I first thought, then I must apologize for my pretty harsh comment (the fact I was back from a party half drunk didn't help too). I guess it was a problem on the end of the webmail service.
