Alright, just making sure. :3

I like the music, I'll read future chapters with the music you provide. :D
Also, Perri doesn't seem to be doing all that much. Remember that she's been travelling around for a long time and at this point isn't well known to be aligned with anyone. Sneaking in to an enemy town wouldn't be all that hard. Hint Hint. Nudge Nudge. ;D

Can't wait for newer chapters. (Hopefully I'm not the only one)

Sorry guys (not that I think you checked), I don't think I can post today. Tomorrow maybe, but don't hold your breath. I'll at least keep you updated.

I do remember Perri... working on it. Trust me.

Chapter V (part 2/2)

"I'm still wondering what your plan is."
Dag watched as Torin paced, while still wondering what he could have planned.
"If it's needed you'll know."
The team of warriors had prepared. They stood in a group of trees near the eneny town, at about mid-night. Azalus stretched, and, while wearing her simplest dress, turned and said, "I'm ready. Tall guy about to turn the corner, right?" Torin nodded.
Perri shook her head as Azalus started down the hill. "I still don't understand... I've been through this town many times, but I never thought that Zio, as greedy as he might be, would do something like this..."
"Zio?" was Torin was reply.
"Zio Grimrain," Krenlin said. "He's the leader of the town miltia and from what me and Perri can tell, the one causing this trouble."
Torin nodded, before Dag nudged him. "It's time," was all Dag needed to say. Torin nodded and him and Dag went down.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Talain had been given a promotion only two days ago. He was now walking outside the town having to stay up all night. What he thought would make things better, little did he know, what make things much worse for him. A young girl in a simple dress was running down the hill towards him.
"Please sir, I need help."
"What is it miss?"
Azalus, as she had before, started crying pathetically. "Lady, what is it?"
The guard started trying to comfort her, but only about ten seconds later...
WANG.
The guard fell, and Dag put away his Troika. He had merely used the pummel to knock out the poor fellow.
Torin dropped to his knees, and took something small out of the guards pocket. It looked like a coin, but they knew it was their new way into the city. "Quickly!" hissed Dag, looking up at the wall. "Next patrol will be here in 10 seconds." The group ran back towards the other warriors, knowing it had been a success. They returned panting. "Tomorrow, we strike."
Azalus sighed, taking out her crossbow. "I almost hate to do this, but less risk." A dart streaked through the night and stuck in the prone guard's side.
Chapter VI
Daylight was almost surreal. The sky was stained a deep red, almost too deep. The warriors were getting ready. It was already noon, but they knew that that was fine, and all a part of the plan. “Right,” said Torin. “As you know, me, Fabian, and Krenlin will be entering the town, using our passage coin, obtained from the guard. Krenlin has a friend in the town, who’ll shelter us for the day, and we’ll be able to give a signal for how to attack at night. I’ll wave a torch once we reach the wall. Waving it to the left means to move forward, and attack the town directly. The Gate will be open once you get there. If I wave my torch to the right, it means to retreat. If I thrust my torch skyward, it means to attack from the forest behind the town using a siege strategy me, Azalus, Dag, and Xylin developed. Attack in a Dragon Fire Crash.”
Azalus raised an eyebrow. Dag’s eyes widened. Xylin simply chuckled. Dag shook his head. “It didn’t work last time.”
“Then make sure it works this time,” was Torin’s simple reply to Dag’s caution.
Fabian looked over and said, “Torin, it’s time.”
He nodded, and him, Fabian, and Krenlin walked down the hill towards the town.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The three warriors headed into the town, having made it past the gate. “That was easier than I thought it would be,” muttered Fabian.
“My sister’s house is just up ahead.”
Torin’s eyes widen at Krenlin’s reply. “Sister?”
“Yep. What did you expect? I thought I said…”
“You never said anything about ‘sister,’” was Torin’s reply, eyes still wide.

Soon, the small party was walking up to a door on a small house, and krenlin was hugging a small girl. “Torin, Fabian, this is Brenna Ulfar, my sister.” Torin nodded his greetings. Fabian bowed slightly. Brenna blushed. “Well, anyways, it’s not a problem. I can let you spend the night, but that’s it.”

Torin, Fabian, and Krenlin spent the rest of the day waiting in Brenna’s house. It was a small little house with only about five rooms, the largest being a small living room with a little wooden table, five wooden chairs draped in hides, and a tall lantern like floor- lamp that was currently unlit. After talking for an hour or two, Fabian finally asked the question that, ever since Perri posed it, was on everyone’s’ mind.
“Why is this, ‘Zio Grimrain,’ doing this to the town?”
Brenna sighed, and she now held the gaze of all eyes in the room.
“It started about three months back. Zio started acting uneasy about everything, and no-one could get him to say why. Rumor had it, he had become a mercenary, and someone had threatened him. Grimrain wasn’t one to be afraid of a single man who said something, so some of us thought there was more.
“After another month, he revealed that he had, in fact, become a mercenary, but didn’t say what he was scared of. What he did say, was that there were 500 Almirian Seals for any man willing to help him attack the neighboring village and, well, that was about where it’s been. He’s still been afraid of something, though. Most reckon it’s some hero, who’ll save us, but I doubt it.
“After the war started, he had the wall built, he made a curfew, and said you needed the coin he had made to enter and leave the town.”
“Well we hope to stop that, sister.”

Night had fallen. Torin and his team quietly bid their goodbyes to Brenna, and left quickly. “Right,” Torin started whispering to his allies. “As she said, there will be a couple patrols in the wall, and some on the walls, so try to stay quiet. On the other hand, everything seems to be going well. Let’s just try and keep it that way.

At that moment, Fabian pulled them aside, and about ten guards passed. Torin thanked him, and they continued in silence. Another patrol passed after about ten minutes. After they thought they were gone, a young guard turned and started to walk back alone, looking around. He started turning to them, and Fabian drew sword and took out the poor fool with one sword swipe. “Quick!” hissed Krenlin. “If they find that body, the alarm will sound and it will be the end for us.” With that, the group set off at a jog towards the nearby wall. But Krenlin was right, and a matter of moments later, a bell sounded.

Dag looked up, hearing it. They had stayed up, waiting. But Torin was on time, and as the bell sounded, the torch was seen being thrust skyward. Dag sighed. “Let’s move.”
Azalus chuckled. “I always hoped to do this again.”
“That makes one of us,” replied Dag, as they set off at a jog.
Xylin looked up at the walls before going, and realized that a fight was breaking out. “Good luck, Torin.”

Whooo! This was well worth the wait. :D

Looks great, can't wait for the action and whatever this "Dragon Fire Crash" formation/attack thingy is! And who ever the danger is to Zio! And the music to listen to in the new chapter!
(That's a lot of things I can't wait for, but I really am exited y'know?)

Tedme's picture
Tedme
Haha.

Well, I'm sadly not going to be working on it today, though I might add the music for it. Also, a note on the "Dragon Fire Crash," it was meant to sound kinda like something a group of little kids watching manga would come up with, and was actually generated using a Seventh Sanctum generator (See link). However, the actual tactic in real life is known as.... well, you'll see.

PART II: OF BLOOD AND LOVE

Chapter VII
Three months prior…
Zio was walking towards the large tavern. He was a tall, brawny man, but still had good looks. He was charismatic, quick, and when he wanted to be, polite. He stepped out of the rain into the mostly deserted house. He saw the bar-keep scrubbing down tables, and muttering to himself. He saw a few people remaining, mostly drunk. He saw him. He walked slowly over to a table, and sat down, staring at the man, mostly hidden by the hood of his cloak.
“You wanted me?”
The man under the cloak nodded slowly. “Yes. I’d like your aid in running a test.”
Zio was uneasy. “You see,” continued the man, “a team of warriors is approaching. They’ll just keep going, unless a fight is going on. Your job is to distract them from their travel, by attacking the next town over.”
Grimrain paused.
“And why should I take this work?”
The hooded figure laughed quietly.
“You don’t have much choice.”
At that moment, two tall gremlins, each hooded, and wearing a sash with a crimson symbol on it, entered the tavern. The bar-keep stepped forward, and said, pointing to the symbol on their chest, “We don’t s-serve, your k-kind, h-here!” He tried to sound firm, but stuttered multiple times. The gremlins ignored him, and sat down at a close by table. Zio was shocked. “You’re with the resistance? This, ‘Nine,’ they call themselves?”
The hooded figure laughed, more loudly. “I’m a gremlin. I’m one of The Nine. I am Lord Kalem Singird.”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dag dashed through the trees, still closely followed by Xylin, Azalus, and the rest of the group. The reach the opposite end of the wall, panting. It had reached midnight.
Xylin stepped forward. “I have the bombs, just get me the hole.”
Dag stepped forward, grabbed a shovel from Perri’s bag, and began to dig. Everyone stared for a moment, until Azalus stepped forward and shouted; “Come on, DIG!”
Everyone quickly set to work, digging a hole next to the giant stone wall. It started to turn under the wall, and after about fifteen minutes, Xylin nodded. “Good enough.”
He stepped forward and placed three fist-sized orbs of iron. “Now, once these are lit, everyone needs to run, as quickly as you can, alright?” Nods were the only response. “Good. Ready?”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

At the same time, Torin found himself in the midst of battle. He dodged and blocked for the most part, until Fabian’s sword finished off a foe, or Krenlin stepped in, giving him time to attack. He had just cleaved a guard with his troika, when he heard the bell ringing. He was half amused it took so long, half afraid, realizing that the amount of guards attacking was about to double. He was wondering what was taking Xylin so long, and then he heard it. A deafening explosion rang through the air, and he watched as a large part of the back wall crumbled. The real battle was finally about to start.

Notes:
This chapter has more music, so feel free to check Edit .8 Also, ask me if you want to know about the actual technique that they used. Lastly, I can guarantee that the real fighting will begin with the next chapter, and will also include something of a surprise.

Ember-Break
Yay, EXPLOSIONS!

Looks good, I'm looking forward to whatever this "surprise" mentioned in the notes is. And, um, yes. I would like to know what the technique was.
I was spending like, 30 minutes on that generator trying to figure it out. Please tell meeee!

Tedme's picture
Tedme
Lol..

I don't think you could find it on there. Anyways, in real life, the technique is known as sapping. Originally, medieval commanders would try and dig under enemy walls to get into castles. At one point, a general had the idea to fill the tunnel they were digging with flammable objects, and lit on fire, burning the pillars, and causing the walls to fall. Over time, fire became explosives. So, that is "roughly" what I based it on.

Chapter VIII

There was a long silence. After a while, Torin heard Dag and Azalus shout, and knew they had begun to invade. Torin, Fabian, and Krenlin started making their way down towards the town, trying to get off the walls. Fewer guards were attacking them, so it was pretty easy to get down. Chaos had broken out. As they started to fight, Torin was briefly surprised to find the villagers fighting alongside them and helping them. Then he realized; no one liked Zio know, except his warriors. Which reminded him.

He dodged an ax that was swinging at his head. “Krenlin! Where is Zio!?”
Krenlin stabbed a wounded guard, and opened his mouth when someone else replied. “Zio should be out here soon, I don’t know what’s keeping him. Fear?”
To everyone’s surprise, Brenna was throwing a hatchet towards a charging guard. “What? I’ve been training ever since Zi-“
“Nevermind! Just keep fighting!” interrupted Torin, throwing his shield up to defend Fabian. A hatchet flew and took out the guard in front of Fabian. “And, thank you,” finished Torin, with a nod.
Finally, they caught a glance of Dag and Azalus. The battle shifted, until they met in the middle. Torin stabbed at another guard who, to his surprise, was too quick and ducked out of the way. A swift counter stab pierced Torin’s armor. An arrow shaft flew, and hit the guard in the neck. He turned, but couldn’t find where it had come from, so he turned and continued to fight.
Dag swung his Sealed Sword at a group of warriors, and everyone knew where he was as about five guards flew into the air, landing hard, knocked out, or dead. An arrow zipped towards him, taking out a guard that sat behind him, preparing his sword for an attack. He couldn’t tell where the arrow was from, so he turned and fought on.
Azalus found herself fighting back to back with Krenlin.
“So I never heard,” Krenlin started saying, “What were you guys doing before you started helping us?”
“Drop!” shouted Aria, as the ax of a taller warrior swept over their heads.
“We were following a dream of Torin on a quest.” As she said this, she swung landing a blow on the guard.
“Really? You’d follow this guy’s dream? Just because?”
He turned around, standing next her, blade ready. The guard swung, and he jumped back while Azalus dashed around the warrior. “He has my full trust,” was all Azalus said, as she slashed the guards back.
Krenlin jumped up and slashed the warrior’s face, and he finally fell. “I guess, mine too,” he said with a smile.

Torin looked up, realizing that guards armed with bows were gathering on the wall above them. They would be slaughtered. He was relieved to watch Brenna, along with many villagers and Krenlin’s miltia charge across the wall, easily defeating the surprised bowmen. Another arrow zipped towards him, He heard an arrow behind him, and watched as a bowman pulled back his bow string to hit Torin. But he hadn’t shot. However, an arrow hit the bowman, causing him to lose his aim and shoot an arrow skyward. Fabian jumped forward, finishing off the bowman.
The amount of Guards was finally decreasing. It was, of course, at this point that Zio Grimrain, mounted on a Ashtail Wolver, charged towards Torin.
Torin lifted his shield, but fell back from the heavy blow that Zio delt. Grimrain’s large ax was lifted up again, and smashed most of the way through Torin’s shield, causing him to fall prone.
“No!” shouted a voice, over the din.
An arrow flew and hit Zio’s wrist, causing him to drop the ax with a small flinch.
Opposite him was a warrior riding on an Aethyll. The horse like mount was running towards Zio, with its horns lowered as if to knock him off his mount. The warrior on the mount was what surprised Torin. He knew the rider better than most people who he had gone on the journey with.
This was Elspeth Blueshire.

Chapter IX

As she rode closer, she seemed to smile at Torin’s shocked expression. Now, Torin didn’t even have to think about what he was doing. He had done this many times before with Elspeth. He swung his blade at the wolver’s legs, causing it to collapse on its side. Zio fell to the ground. He looked up, and started reaching for the weapon of nearby, fallen guard. He was stunned, as Elspeth leapt from her mount, and shot an arrow.
It hit next to his hand, going through the edge of his thick leather armor, and pinning him to the ground. He reached out his other hand, to remove the arrow, but found a bow and a troika both point right at him. He paused, staring up at the two. The battle was almost over, and many of his guard were surrendering.

They had won.

Zio sighed, and asked to speak. Torin nodded.
“The Nine know you, and will stop you.”
Perri, who was walking towards them, looked up with widening eyes. Torin squinted. “The… Nine?’
Zio shook his head. “I’m surprised they haven’t gotten me yet. I wonder whe-“
A flash of light shot under Elspeth’s arm, and hit Grimrain square in the chest. He gasped. “T-that would be i-it, them…” he quietly muttered. Torin looked up at where it had come from, in the early morning light (he didn’t stop to realize it was already morning), and thought he saw a man with wings gliding off the wall.
Perri rushed over. “Do you know more about The Nine?”
Zio wheezed, coughing up blood. “T-they know all and s-see a-all. And I can now see what h-he tried to show me. I… I can s-see, crim… crimson…” he gasped, and finally breathed his last.
Perri shuddered.
“What did he mean?” asked Elspeth, looking at Perri.
“Later,” said Torin quietly. “We need to talk. Outside of town.”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The last thing Torin heard as they stepped out of town was Krenlin shouting “We won!” followed by the cheers of villagers and militia alike.
Torin took a deep breath, and said “Why did you follow me?”
Elspeth replied, quietly, “If I stayed there it would be for nothing more than to watch the kingdom crumble and…”
He noticed tears on her cheeks.
He looked at her, squinting.
“I came to save you, I cry over the chance that you died, and this is what I got.”
Torin sighed. “I didn’t..”
He couldn’t think of words. She shook her head. “You didn’t think.”
Torin nodded. “Your right. I’m sorry.”
Elspeth sniffed. “It’s alright. But no matter what you say, I’m coming with you.”
Torin winced. “If Fabian will let, I guess…” he muttered.
Elspeth looked at him. “You still don’t want me to follow you, do you.”
There was a pause, before the both shouted at the same time;
“It’s because I love you!”
Another pause as they stared at each other. It seemed a while since they had said that to each other. Torin turned and walked away, repeating; “If Fabian will let you.”
Last bit of news, I'm accepting ONE new app.
The requirements are only that the character must be a good friend of Brenna, or one of Krenlin's militia.
Sgt. Adramelech
Personality: has no personality, his eyes are devoid of joy, or some would say life
Physical features: nondescript, average
Bio: Is friends with Brenna, and basically no one else, rarely says anything, average fighter, likes cake.
Equipment: Beats everything down with a reaper rib he once ripped out of a....reaper?
Chapter X
Torin and Elspeth walked back into town. Elspeth walked off to talk to her father, and Torin went over to Azalus. “How’s the clean up going?”
“Rather well. It looks like things for these tiny towns should go back to normal.”
Torin nodded. “So,” continued Azalus, “Elspeth is coming with us?”
Torin simply nodded again, looking over at Elspeth, joyfully following Fabain.
“That’s… good, right?”
Torin didn’t reply, so Azalus changed the subject. “I believe we have other new comers to our team. Brenna and Krenlin sounded like they wanted to come.”
Torin looked up at this bit of news. “They should be along any minute now.”
Torin smiled slightly, and reached down towards something glittery on the ground. He realized what it was. Feeling around his neck, he knew he must have dropped it during the battle. He picked up the Maiden’s Tear. It was his exact one, every bump, dent, imperfection. He looked up at Elspeth. With this gem, he rarely thought of its faults, but with Elspeth…
He sighed, and put the gem on, around his neck. Azalus had watched the entire thing, he realized. “Well? What are you staring at?”
Azalus started to walk away, smiling.
Perri walked by, shortly after, and Torin called her over. “Tell me about this ‘Nine’ that Zio mentioned.”
“Right. Little is known about the Nine, except that they are the Gremlin rebellion. They started as nine, who have become the leaders of the group, but they’ve been recruiting since then. No one knows how long they’ve been around, nor their size. All that is know is they worship the god, Vog.”
Torin was struck with a splitting headache. He merely winced, though he wanted to scream from the pain. It passed quickly, and a familiar voice started talking to him, in his head. He knew it was the goddess, but seemed like he knew the voice from somewhere else as well.
“Torin, Vog must be stopped, or he will be Almire’s doom, and your doom.”
Torin nodded. He had more to take in now, so he thanked Perri and sent her on her way.
Krenlin and Brenna walked up. Brenna sighed. “This weirdo wants to join your team, I think for Azalus, more than anything else.” Krenlin’s eyes widened. “And why would you think that?” Brenna chuckled, and continued; “If he’s going, so am I.”
Torin squinted at Krenlin. “But are you not the town militia captain?” Krenlin laughed. “Yeah, but our town hadn’t needed one until a couple months ago, and now we don’t again. If I stay, it will be back to father’s empty farm for me.”
Torin had to think before he realized what Krenlin meant. His father was dead. He tried to say something, than smiled and said, “Welcome aboard, Krenlin.”
Elspeth walked over to Torin as Krenlin and Brenna walked away. Elspeth sighed. “I’ll return to Almire if you want.”
“Elspeth, it’s hard for me to admit, but you did something I always hoped you would do. Thank you for coming. I needed you.”
And as noon approached, blood was the ruling champion. Zio’s blood.
Through his death, two towns’ relationships were brought back to normal, as well as the love of two travelers. But not all things gained through his death were good. The knowledge that Vog was about, and already causing corruption, weighed heavily on Torin, though there was nothing he could do about it.
So putting on a smile, he held Elspeth’s hand, and started to gather his friends for the next part of the journey.
I look forward to how Torin knows the Goddess's voice, or how it's familiar to him somehow. As well as more encounters with "The Nine".
Here it is....
Part III is beginning. It's right below, I hope you like it.
PART III: MINOR INCURSIONS MADE BY THE GREEDY
Chapter XI
Torin, Elspeth, and Fabian standing side by side, stared up at the mountain before them. “This mountain range marks the northern border of Almire,” Azalus said with a sarcastic smile. “The next kingdom over will probably try to kill us. Good times.”
“Besides that we’ve got to deal with the thieves and mercenaries of these mountains. With no king, there are a number of villages ruled by strength.” Torin shook his head at his own word.
Perri shrugged. “It will be good practice in case we have problems with Fornan riders after we cross the mountains.”
“Assuming we can…” muttered Elspeth.
Fornan was the next kingdom over. They had a smaller military than Almire, though their cavalry was a lot more impressive. There current ruler was Khan Amgard, thought by many to be a god. Besides Amgard, many also feared High-Swordsman Enaur, the mounted captain of an elite, team, that rode lesser dragons, drakes.
But for the time being, the mountains ahead were what they needed to worry about. As they started to climb the first hill, Torin turned and realized they were more of a war band then a small team of travelers. Each carried a weapon, each ready to fight, a total of nine warriors. Nine. He shuddered, and turned to keep moving.
Dag walked up. “I bought a mount in town before we departed.” Torin turned and looked at the creature Dag was leading. It was a large, bear-like mount with red-brown fur, and large, almost innocent eyes. “I’ve decided to go scout a head.” Torin nodded, and Dag mounted, riding off. Elspeth walked over. The ground was smoothing out, so though it had been climbing, it was becoming walking. Elspeth looked up at the mountains, with an expression of caution and curiosity; an interesting mix of emotions. “I wonder where the first band of thieves is hiding.” Elspeth stared at the slopes again, as if trying to find the group she had spoken of. “They won’t be somewhere easily noticeable, that’s for sure.” Brenna stood next to Elspeth, watching the cliffs as well.
“And yet you stare as well, sister.”
“No point in not being watchful,” replied Brenna, seeming almost to ignore Krenlin’s comment.
Suddenly, Torin saw a glint in the sky. At a moment’s notice, he jumped and shoved Elspeth to the ground. An arrow zipped through the air, exactly where she had stood a second ago. She scrambled to her feet, and the four started running up the hill, towards a large boulder they could find shelter in. It didn’t take long for the other’s to figure out what was happening, and start running as well. Soon, the party had gathered behind the cliff face. Azalus had been scratched by one on her ankle, but simply needed to throw a bandage on it. Fabian had been hit in the shoulder, and Perri started attending to his wound, saying she had learned the craft from a friend.
A couple more arrows flew, but soon, everything was silent again.
“Right,” said Torin. “At the moment, we’re pinned behind this boulder. Our best bet is to wait for them to get reckless and approach us. Then, we can jump out and fight back. Plus, we know Dag will be returning, so his help could be used to fight these guys. Or…”
He looked at Perri.
“Do you still have those cloaks?”
“I have three.”
Xylin looked up. “I have two of them.”
Torin nodded. “We can take five warriors. Who’s willing and ready?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Up on the cliff, twenty thieves waited for their prey to come out. It would be moments. One of them thought they saw movement, and wanted to go check, but they all knew that that would easily be a trap, so a few arrows were nocked, and fired at random.

Time passed. It felt like hours, before finally, something happened. The rocks above them started to roll. Screaming and shouts of panic filled the air, before the boulders rained down on them. Azalus, Fabian, Torin, Xylin, and Krenlin were looking down, satisfied. Their first team of bandits was easily dealt with.

The rolling stones.

Another part to read, just when I was looking for something to do!
Just a question though... What are the cloaks? Just well camouflaged? Or... INVISIBILITY CLOAKS PERHAPS?! I'll assume they had them from the start of the journey or that they picked them up from one (or both) of the towns in the previous parts of the story.

Poor Dag, he got to miss out on a battle. A battle of wit. And arrows. And ROLLING STONES!

Yeah, the cloaks will be explained later. Also, as you'll soon find out, Dag had found other trouble....
I'll try and post more soon. Stay tuned.

Chapter XII

The five warriors stood there. Krenlin took of the strange cloak around his shoulders. It crumbled and he jumped. Xylin, Torin, and Azalus laughed. “That’s how it works. One use invisibility. I don’t think we have any more, though.” After saying this, Torin took of his own cloak and watched it crumble.
Krenlin nodded. “Right. I’ll go tell the others it’s save, than.” Krenlin run of down the slope, as Dag rode up, looking grim. Everyone had taken off the cloaks at that point, and Torin was happy to see Dag. The knight dismounted, and saw what had happened. “First brigand problems?” Dag asked. “Not much of a problem, really, sir,” replied Fabian. Dag nodded and looked up at the sky. It was noon, but storm clouds were beginning to form. “I wish I could say the problems end here, but I found a village, and it appears to in danger. A fight between a group of mercenaries and an almirian knight with his war band has broken out. It’s all verbal, but it’s only a matter of time before swords are drawn.” Torin looked thoughtful. “Do you know the knight?” Dag shook his head. “Right,” said Torin. “We’ll go and see if we can’t put an end to this fight. Come!”

The group was moving at a brisk pace again. It was a matter of about thirty minutes before the town was reached. As they stepped into the town, people were entering their houses, fearing the coming storm; both metaphorical and physical. It was easy to see were the fight was. Three men, one in full armor, two with simple clothes, one leaning on a shield, stood in the middle of town, glaring at each other. Torin known the knight, and wasn’t too surprised. Torin, Azalus, and Dag walked forward to meet the group.

“You’re lucky I don’t have your head, scum,” spat the knight at the mercenary, who scoffed. “My brother could skewer you now, blue-blood,” replied the man, motioning to the man leaning on a spear. “Sir Atran!”

All three looked up at Torin’s call, the spearman muttering “Great, more filthy ‘nobles.’ What has this town become?”
The knight seemed to cheer. “Ah, Sir Torin, good to see you.”
Before Torin could say anything, Dag spoke. “What is this about?”

The mercenaries both sighed, almost in unison. “This here chap paid us to raise a village, nearby on our mountain side. He gave us halve the agreed pay beforehand.” Torin stared at the group of about thirty mercenaries on one side of the town, and the group of noble footmen behind Atran. “You… raised a village?” Torin turned back towards the conversation at hand hearing Azalus’ question. Atran nodded. “The village is mercenaries and thieves. They made a direct raid on an almirian, royal village. Vanaduke sent me to destroy the village, and I hired this dirty lot.”
“And now,” continued the man, leaning on the spear, “he says he’s not going to be paying us the rest of what he owes us.”
Atran laughed. “Why do you think I hired you in the first place? To get rid of more scoundrels. I only recently decided to have mercy and not kill you on the spot.”
As the three glared at each other again, Torin turned to the men that Atran though were no better than thieves. “How much does he owe you?”
They seemed taken aback. “100 almirian seals.”
Torin nodded, and started to sort through his pocket, looking for money. Atran moved his glare to Torin. “Once again, we disagree, Torin. But let me deal with my issues.”

The mercenary leaning on his spear replied first. “Then let’s deal with this your way. Men, to arms!”

Your persuasion skill isn't high enough.

So THAT'S how those cloaks worked.
By the way, just because it's somewhat late and I somehow have the magic gift of becoming more grammatically stern as time goes on throughout the day I would have you know that there are some errors. But because I am also a lover of self-sufficiency I will allow you to seek them out on your own.
It's not because I'm too lazy to do so.
Definitely, absolutely, positively not.
OK maybe.

Anyways, congratulations on your success so far. :D

Chapter XIII

Torin watched as the leaders moved towards their war bands. He sighed and turned to Azalus and Dag. “I suppose we should be looking to our weapons. Come, we’ll help the mercenaries.” Azalus stared at him. “We shouldn’t help either…”
Torin blinked. “The mercenaries have no fault here. They did what they were paid for, and asked for pay. We’ll help the mercenaries.”

As Torin looked at his friends, he saw they were readying for battle. “I’ll go and talk to our new allies. Dag, Azalus, join the others. I’ll be there soon.”

As Torin walked closer to the group, he noticed the expression on most of their faces. “They don’t like knights,” though Torin. The spearman raised his hand, and went to meet Torin. Thunder rumbled overhead, and a few drops of rain began to land. “Greetings, Sir… Torin, right?” Torin nodded. “We’ve decided to help you,” Torin said, glancing around at the dim, and now slightly wet, surroundings. He nodded. “My thanks, but we don’t need your help.” Torin smiled grimly. “We help only to end things quickly, so as to protect the town. Though I, personally, believe that you have been wronged, and I hope I can help.” The spearman nodded. “Than once again, thank you. My name is Aidyn, a name I hope you hear after this battle.” Torin nodded. “I as well.”
“And I am Mathria.” The brother, who seemed to lead the mercenaries, walked over. “I heard you say your intentions, and I must say, they are most honorable. It appears Almire has not been fully defiled.” Torin winced, but nodded, knowing it was meant as a compliment.

As Torin went back, more thunder sounded out, and a bright flash of light illuminated the middle of the town for a moment. As he stepped up to Xylin and Krenlin, he hardly had time to say anything before they all heard Atran’s battle cry. No one could hear what he said, but it was followed by Mathria’s shout, and soon, the two groups charged. Torin drew his sword, raised it to the sky, and started running towards the middle.

The square soon sounded out with the din of a battle. Torin found himself facing Atran. Atran twirled his spear, and charged at Torin. An arrow flew and hit Atran’s wrist, piercing his armor. Torin looked up at the source, and saw Azalus and Elspeth with crossbow and bow at the ready, outside of the battle.

Torin turned back towards the knight and swung his Troika, knocking the knight over. Torin paused, staring down at the knight. “As the rules of knightly combat dictate, I cannot slay you. You most simply agree I have won again, and leave with your troops.”
Atran spat. “I would rather die first. This is the third, and last time, I will let you do this to me.” Swinging his spear, the prone knight hit Torin’s legs, causing him to fall. The stood, and put his spear at Torin’s chest.
He shook his head. “You wouldn’t, Atran.”
Atran laughed. “Is that true?”
Torin smiled slightly, and nodded. The other knight of Almire was suddenly knocked out, as Mathria smashed the remainder of his sundered, wooden shield into the back of Atran’s head. Torin stared at the mercenary. He held his head, as he was a noble, with a crumbling wooden shield on his right arm, and an average iron sword in his left hand. He nodded to Torin, before charging out of the fray.

“Soldiers of Almire, followers of Atran! Your knight has been defeated!” Cheers rose in reply to Mathria’s shout, and Torin knew they had won, just as the rain was clearing.

Whelp, here it is.

A couple notes, next chapter will add onto the story a lot, so be ready for plot development. Also, I know of grammatical errors, and I've been fixing them, but only in my word document. Maybe one day I'll go back and fix it all...
Final note, I'm think that at a later date, Apocrea will make an appearance, but I can't guarantee it.
Now than, *Yawn* I think I was bitten by a wolfer and will be returning after I see if I have the returning status effect of... sleep... Zzzz....

Chapter XIV

Torin watched in the light of the setting sun as the footmen of Almire trod of slowly, two holding Atran on his feet. They carried the knight towards Dag, and Atran scoffed. “We used to be the same. In the end, what I did was necessary evil.”
Dag’s eyes flashed. “The man who admits he has done evil, but says he did the right thing, is a liar, both to himself and those around him. Go to hell, you, scum…”
Everyone in Torin’s party turned to and stared, wide eyed t Dag. He was so calm most of the time, but that remark caused Atran to shake off the footmen holding him, and hobble towards Dag. Two mercenaries jumped forward, catching the falling knight and stopping him from reaching the still calm faced warrior, who Torin knew as a friend. “What, did you say, traitor!?”

Dag met the knight’s angry gaze with a still expression, his anger only being deceived by the fire in his eyes. “… Go to the ever-frozen abyss; you and the demons share the same thoughts; you are no knight… you’re not even a warrior!” With this statement, Dag stood, his expression changed to something Torin never recalled seeing on Dag’s face. “You are the pawn of demons. You are no more than their play-thing. But to the real knights of Almire, you are nothing more than the dirt on our shoe.”
The mercenaries pushed Atran away towards his troops, barely being caught by his own footmen. “I will destroy you Dag! If not I, than Kendrick!” Dag’s expression went back to calm. “He is dead, Atran. And you are worse than that. You rot where you stand.”

There was a long pause while Atran and his men left, and everyone stared at Dag. Azalus started an amusing conversation, and led people away, leaving Torin and Dag. Torin remembered the long time ago when Dag was almost Torin’s clone. Than something happened. Dag had gone on a mission, a bit of a secret one, though rumors spread. There were three knights who went, and when something went wrong, only two returned. He had figured out one of them was Dag, and later, with people starting searches for Sir Kendrick, it was somewhat obvious. But now he knew who all three were, but something still confused him. “I thought you said you didn’t know him.” Dag looked up. “I will admit to knowing him.”
“What happened on that mission?” Torin knew it was a pointless question, but he couldn’t help asking.
“I was not always ‘noble,’ so to speak,” muttered Dag. Thoughts flashed through Torin’s mind. Who knew what had happened? Between Dag’s comments, the anger he had shown moments ago towards Atran, and the fact that Atran was willing to kill a fellow knight… he shuddered and headed off to see what the rest of the party was doing.

Chapter XV (Part 1/2)

Kalem chuckled as he watched Atran leaving. "Kendrick is dead. Keep telling yourself that. I've almost my revenge on that coward of a knight, than it's your turn Dag..." He walked slowly through the crowd of mercenaries, till he could get out of the town. As he walked down the mountainside, he watched Atran and his soldiers make camp, lower, between two mountains. He turned and looked over his shoulder. "Attend me." Two gremlins, seeming to appear out of nowhere, walked over to him. "I want Atran's head by sunrise. He is weak, and now is the best time." All these words were in the Gremlin langue, and sounded like nothing more than grunts to anyone who might have been listening.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Torin sat, staring thoughtfully at the fire. Mathria walked over and sat next to him. "Greetings, and thank you, Sir Torin."
"Just... Torin, is fine..." he mumbled, but he was glad for the company. "It's odd," Torin continued, after a while. "You are a greater friend, and a more honorable warrior than Atran... well, except were money... is concerned..." he finished, thinking about the village. Mathria laughed. "You still are thinking about the village? Ha! No one died, good sir. We simply told them that Almire wanted their blood, and they fled." Torin stared at him. "A mercenary is far nobler than a knight of Almire. That is something..." The man simply smiled. "I hope you learn what I learned long ago. It is the man's actions, not his place or duty, that is honorable."
After some time, Azalus walked over. The sky was now dark, but everything was warm and friendly. "I believe," began Aria, "we have a newcomer. Aidyn expressed interests in joining our team. That is..." she added, seeing Mathria, "... if your ok with it..."
But Mathria was still smiling. "He is a fine warrior, and the best I can offer you. I wish you, and him, luck on road."
The night ended, for the knights, in peace and comfort. Friends, new and old, talked and laughed, before night came, and all settled in for a nice rest.
More chapters to read~! Happy early Halloween!
I don't really have anything to comment on because the story's going good so far. Same with the music. :D
Oh, and you should probably send the 500cr to someone else, for whatever reason my SK client that I use via Steam (which contains my character Ember-Break) doesn't seem to be working. I think it has something to do with the new Java update but... Anyways, enough of that, you could find such talk in the "Technical Issues" parts of the forum.
I hope to see new chapters soon~
